Lexi Blake has the ability of drawing you right into the story and you just can't put the book down until you know the what, hows and whys. It's what makes her an outstanding storyteller in the Romantic Suspense genre. Order of Protection is the first installment in her brand new Courting Justice series and has ties loose to her Masters and Mercenaries and Lawless series.

In the first book we meet Henry, also known as the Monster of Manhattan, a ruthless lawyer who doesn't care if his clients are guilty. It's what makes him so excellent at his job. His very public marriage with an actress and all its escapades has made him despise the limelight and after his divorce he's happy to have nothing to do with it any longer. Until Win stumbles into his life, a reality star and the Billion Dollar Baby, born to a wealthy family and only survivor of an accident that took her parents away.
It wasn’t just the sass that got to him. It was the combination of strength and sweetness. Of brains and that rich vein of kindness everyone who knew her talked about.

Both Henry and Win fight a darkness that can overwhelm them at any time they give in to it. The lawyer is a recovering alcoholic and Win a recovering anorexic. Their connection is instant and for a short time they find solace with each other, their brief affair is supposed to be over when Henry leaves to go back to New York and Win to start her first year of her Master's degree at Duke. The death of Win's best friend brings Henry back into her life. And he's livid when he finds out who the woman, he spent two peaceful weeks with, really is.

Oh and how mad he is. The man she met on the island, the one who lit up her world, who was lover and a friend, is replaced by the cold, detached lawyer, whose job it is to get Win out of custody and make her look innocent. Henry is a real jerk when he meets Win again. He feels betrayed and lied to - I get the lying part - omission is a form of lying...but Win never betrayed him. When I started this book I fell in love with Henry's character right away but the way he treated his client was horrible. He really hated the superficial world his wife and now Win were a part of. However, once Win dug out what crawled up his butt Henry returned to his sweet, protective, playful, sexy self.
Our problem is I think you’re too good to be true. I want you to be real. I want you to be everything you seem to be, but I can’t quite make myself believe. Make me believe, Win.”

It's Win who makes him eat his words. I loved her sass, courage and smart brains. Henry didn't stand a chance once she opened her mouth. The way she argued with him was sarcastic, straight forward and honest. She really knew how to make a point. Win went through a lot and her life is constantly in danger but she's a survivor and a fighter but there is also a soft heart which made her shine. She's probably one of my favorite heroines by Lexi Blake so far.
He really was an idiot when it came to the whole emotional thing. Men.

The combination of an alcoholic who drinks to let go of his iron control and an anorexic who didn't eat because it was the one thing she had control over was intriguing. While these two were broken apart from each other they made each other whole and made a whole lot of sense to me.
"Nothing is guaranteed. The world doesn’t work that way. All we can do is love as hard as we can for as long as we have."

The suspense is great - it's a classic who-dun-it and even though I guessed some aspects of it others completely surprised me.

There are two characters whose story I'm looking forward to. One of them is Noah Lawless, a brother of the Lawless siblings from the series with this name and David, NFL star turned lawyer whose book will be up next. I always have a fabulous time when I pick up a book by this author and Courting Justice definitely has great potential. Order of Protection was a solid introduction - it held my attention all the way until the end. It's suspenseful, romantic and hot and sexy (although it's a lot tamer than Ms Blake's Masters & Mercenaries) and I'm looking forward to what else the author has in store for Garrison, Cormack and Lawless!

Win had done that for him, too. Win had done all those things, and just like the fucking alcohol, she’d turned out to be one more addiction he couldn’t afford.

You know what I truly love about this author? Her ability to create new characters while also tying in all previous favorites. If you've read her Masters & Mercenaries series as well as her Lawless trilogy, then you're in for a treat with the cameos that will appear in her brand new Courting Justice series.

In Order of Protection, we're introduced to the Monster of Manhattan, Henry Garrison, as he picks up the pieces of his life after he hits rock bottom following a bitter divorce from his famous actress wife and the ensuing scandal of it that almost cost him his career as one of the top criminal defense attorneys in NY. He's done with women, and he's officially done with the rich and spoiled famous ones.

Taylor Winston Hughes is no stranger to the limelight. As the infamous Billion Dollar Baby, the heiress is used to being in the scrutiny of the public eye. At one point, it almost cost her her life. She meets Henry at a time when they need each other the most. But while she knows right away who he is, Henry has no idea that Win isn't just a gorgeous woman that he has a weeklong affair with. And when she's framed for the murder of her best friend, he's the only one that she can count on.

Henry and Win's relationship was tumultuous at best. Both of them have been burned in the past. But where Win is more realistic about it and isn't afraid to own her feelings, Henry runs from them at all costs. He goes hot and cold often, and when he finds out Win's true identity, he turns downright ice cold. There were times where I wanted to slap him, but I also understood the whys of it. The character development was truly on point here, and it helped sympathize with both characters easily.

I really loved Win. She's not a naive and spoiled little rich girl. This is a woman that knows what she wants and is a survivor. She's not afraid to stand up to Henry and his mood swings. I enjoyed her quite a bit.

There's quite a bit happening with the story between the romance and the suspense of who done it that leaves you guessing until the very end. I enjoyed the suspense element immensely, especially since it really did leave me reeling once the truth of everything came out. The romance was great, even if it ran hot and cold at times. I loved the angst between this couple, though I'll admit that I wanted Win to make Henry work for it at times and not give into him as easily as she did at times.

I LOVE that we get more Noah Lawless and I'm practically salivating for his book. I'll settle for David's next since Lexi does like to save the best for last and I'll take what I can get.

Order of Protection was a romance full of suspense and deeply buried secrets. It was had a bit of a slow start, but when it picked up steam around the 40% mark, it was unputdownable. Lexi Blake can really do no wrong with me, and I can't wait for more in this series.

I've been hooked on Lexi Blake since I picked up my first M&M book of hers. But her latest books just haven't been doing it for me (except Remi's). Yet I continue to read every new one she puts out in hopes that I can recapture the love I felt when I first started reading her. Unfortunately, this book was a whole heaping of hot mess.

There were things that were so far-fetched (AKA the ending. Which made ZERO sense IMO)... There were also things that annoyed the hell out of me. For example, Henry is just six months out of rehab, and I am pretty damn sure relationships are frowned upon for the first year after getting sober. That aside, he NEVER goes to an AA meeting? Never talks with his sponsor? She is a recovering anorexic, yet NEVER goes to see her therapist? She is accused of murder, and he is thrust into a high profile case, yet neither ever need to have a chat with their sponsors to help them cope? And yes, maybe that is me being nitpicky, but it is the smalls details that can derail a book.

description

On top of that, the first 40% of this book was a major snoozefest. Nothing happened but a ton of inner dialogue. I felt no connection between Henry and Win. I found it impossible to believe that Henry wouldn't have recognized Win right away given he was married to an actress and lived in LaLa Land surrounded by the entertainment industry. She was a famous heiress that was on a super popular reality show. I mean...COME ON. Things did pick up at the 40% mark, but then Henry turned into this giant whiney a$$hole, and I hated him. I get he was butthurt she didn't tell him who she was (although she never actually lied about who she was either), but if anyone understood that things are not always portrayed accurately in the press, it should have been him. But...NOOOO. This douche acted like she murdered a litter of puppies and buried them in his backyard! "You lied to me...whaaa." "You betrayed me...whaaa." <-- HOW he came to THAT conclusion, I have NO idea since she never actually did a single thing to him. He just kept whining about it over and over and over again. I spent most of the last half of this book wanting to throat punch him and tell him to GROW THE F-CK UP.

description

On the positive side, I did like Win. She was a super sweet heroine. I thought she should have told Henry to go f-ck himself on several occasions, but I didn't get the doormat vibe from her...thankfully. I also liked the secondary characters of David, and especially Noah Lawless and Micheal Malone. Plus we get cameos from a couple of guys from the M&M series (Chase and Remi). So yea, a bit of a mixed bag with this one.

They both needed

"A distraction and some kindness"

What was meant to be a brief encounter to give them some time to breathe, to quench a thirst they were both desperate for ...became so much more.

"Stay with me. That was what he was saying. It was more intimate than sex. It was comfort he was asking for, and the sweetness of it pierced through her."

This book has everything! Dirty talking older man struggling to rebuild his life. An intelligent strong-willed young woman determined to reclaim her life and give it meaning. Add in Murder, betrayal and you've got your next read!

Henry Garrison (the Monster of Manhattan) and Tylor Winston Hughes ("Win" Heir to the Billion dollar Hugh corporation) are enamored with each other the second they meet. As the story begins we're introduced to Henry Garrison suffering the aftermath of a horrible breakup that has left him questioning his life and what kind of man he's become. Saying goodbye to the only place that represented home and the only stability he's ever known. Heartbroken and lost Henry just needs something or someone to believe in again.

Enter Win Hughes, in a less than graceful manner I might add. But a cute encounter has them not only hunkering down for the night for safety but for the companionship, they are both desperate for. Win isn’t the innocent wallflower she appears to be. She's fighting her own battles past and present and while she’s young. She’s confident and fierce in her own way.

This being the first Lexi Blake novel I've ever read I have to say I was enchanted by these characters and absolutely captivated by this story. There's a huge age gap between the H/h and while they were very different and so perfectly flawed. The character dynamics were so well written I was instantly in love with them.

Murder, the secrets, and the betrayal will all have you on edge wondering WHO DID IT!! I know I did! Usually, it's pretty obvious in a romantic suspense because the author tends to make the romance the focal point. Not in the case of Order of Protection This well-rounded novel gives you the perfect amount of romance and the perfect amount of suspense! I dare you...That's right!! I dare you to figure it out before the end! I really could not put this book down! It makes me crave all of Lexi Blake's previous and future novels. You guys just have to read it!

The author has built a firm foundation for the Courting Justice series. Solid characters with their faults and attributes that make this reader believe this series will be one everyone will be chomping at the bit to get at. Since this is my first novel by this author. I would love to hear from you guys. What was your first Lexi Blake novel and do you recommend a particular series?

P.S If you’re in the mood a hot dirty talking silver fox. Look no further. Henry has arrived to make your panties wet and he won’t be done with you till you scream his name ... twice 😉

Two people paying the price for the mess they have made of their lives find healing, love and redemption in Lexi Blake’s ORDER OF PROTECTION.

Henry was a shark, an attorney who went for the jugular until his wife shredded his reputation, his life and the fiefdom he thought he couldn’t lose. Win is the little rich girl who hides her brains and her true self to please her “friends,” her public and the reality show she starred on. She also hides her true identity from Henry. Now both are re-grouping, and a chance meeting has them dancing in the sheets for a quick affair that means nothing, until it becomes everything to both of them. Can love and a relationship be based on lies or will murder reveal how much they have together?

While Henry was said to 37 and Win 29, they both came across as much less mature to me, which didn’t quite fit with their “positions” in life. The mystery of who the actual killer is WAS very well hidden and I definitely didn’t see that coming, but like a reality TV show, this was a little too shallow for me at times when I wanted more depth.

Ms. Blake can certainly write and her characters have glowing moments of humor and passion, and the plot had some dark twists, but overall, I wasn’t trapped in the pages, refusing to let go.

For my first read of Lexi Blake this definitely wet my appetite for this authors story telling. What I liked about it was that it drew me in from the start. She grabbed my attention and had me wanting to find out where she was taking us with these characters. There is a mix of likable, unlikable and some mysterious characters that kept things moving in the story.

Win, the female lead was one of those likable characters. She did make some bad choices that put her in a bad place and the story begins at her healing. What grew of that was a woman who overcame and matured into a lovely young woman who dealt with problems in a reasonable manor. I loved that she wasn't prone to jumping to conclusions or acting out. She's a heroine you can genuinely like and wish the best for.

Henry, the male lead of the story is a bit more of a mix of likable and unlikeable. He's made his own bad choices in life and what came out of it was a man who was also more mature but still held onto some bitterness that made him judge unfairly. I liked him but then he had moments where I didn't like him. He never crossed a line that was unforgivable, but for me it kept him from becoming a character that I truly loved.

There were plenty of side characters that added to the intrigue of the story. Some may surprise you, some are predictable and some you will love and want to find their books to read about them. Since this is my first read, I'm assuming here but I got the feeling a few of these characters do actually have their own books. I will be researching that.

As for the story itself, there was good mix of drama to the story if a tad unrealistic. Only these things can happen to the uber rich in a book. Maybe that is why it pulled me right into the story and had me wanting to see how it all ended. Some of it was predictable and some unpredictable. I like that I didn't guess every single clue.

Now I'm off to see if those delicious bodyguards and their wives have their own books! ARC provided by NetGalley.

I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with an advance copy of Order of Protection for an honest review.

Order of Protection is another steamy hit!!! The chemistry and suspense is great. I enjoyed that we get the Lawless and Taggart men mentioned in this book. Noah also plays a key part! I am looking forward to more from this new series!

Henry is packing up his grandfathers house to sell it. He knows it isn’t practical to keep it, even though it holds so many amazing memories. He is taking a break on the porch when he sees a gorgeous blonde aka Win, jogging on the beach when she falls. They instantly have an attraction. He loves her curves and easy going personality. She likes that he likes her without expectations.

What a brilliant and exciting start to Lexi Blake's new Courting Justice series. This steamy romance had me on edge, nail-biting my way through several cleverly written plot twists and off-the-charts passion. A tumultuous relationship that began during a thunderstorm, Henry and Win's angst-filled journey set my kindle ablaze. Chock full of suspense, thrills, deceits and a couple with intense sexual chemistry, Order of Protection was a fantastic read.

Defense attorney Henry Garrison was quite the complex hero that had my head spinning with his broody hot-and-cold temperament. Known as "The Monster of Manhattan" this tough as nails lawyer's life was in a tailspin. A recovering alcoholic and recently divorced, he was struggling to piece himself and career back together. To top it off, Henry was riddled with relationship trust issues. Meeting the sexy Win during a terrible storm and agreeing to a short no-string-attached fling, led to an inexplicable instant attraction that he was frustratingly determined to avoid. Swoon-worthy and dominating in the bedroom, yet stubborn when it came to commitment, Henry was a challenging character - I both adored and disliked him throughout this read. In the end through Win's love and devotion, Henry managed to win me over.

Feisty, brazen and sassy, Taylor Winston "Win" Hughes was a perfect match for this hard-headed counselor. Looking for an escape, this uber-wealthy heiress was fresh out of rehab for anorexia and avoiding pressure from her disingenuous friends to return to a reality TV show. Trying to restart her life, she decided to shed her celebrity persona and introduced the real "Win" when first meeting Henry. However, when framed for her best friend's murder, there's no escaping her past. Representing her case, Henry discovers exactly who Win is, and the real monster came out as he treated her terribly at times. To say he had some difficulty with forgiveness and dealing with the revelation of all her secrets is an understatement. But through Win's compassion and dedication, Henry slowly evolved into an understanding and loving hero that I grew to adore.

This couple was explosive in every way. I loved their combativeness, their banter, and over the top heated passion. These two ignited inside and out of the bedroom making this salacious romance truly enjoyable. Blake is a crafty writer, weaving mind-blowing plot twists and mysteries within her novels that have me consistently anxious and on edge. Once again, I found myself lost in her gripping love story. This read had it all ~ lust, intensity, humor, lovable characters, treacherous villains, emotional moments and old friends from other favored series popping into the story-line. For fans of romantic suspense, this first in a new series is a must-read.

Win and Henry are each trying to overcome the damage they have done to their lives and they find solace in one another, but then something goes terribly wrong and Win is arrested for the murder of her best friend. As if that isn't bad enough, the secret that Win has been keeping from Henry comes out and wow does he take it bad....and that's putting it mildly.

If you have read any of Lexi Blake's books you know you're in for a treat, not only does she give you likable characters with a great story line and the sexy times really can melt your kindle, she gives you great secondary characters that keeps you interested in wanting more and more from the series. Well, that is exactly what she has done with her new series Courting Justice, with this first book Order of Protection.

This story held my interest from the first page right until the last, there was not skimming or skipping at any point. I cannot wait to see what happens next in the series when David, a former football star turned lawyer, gets his HEA. If you enjoy Lexi Blake I am sure you will enjoy this book, and if you haven't read any of her work before this is a great place to start. Happy Reading!

This is my first Lexi Blake novel and it started a little slowly for me. The pace did pick up and there were even nice plot twists. The relationship between Win and Henry was nicely developed. All in all it was a nice, easy, enjoyable read.

“I don’t want to let you go.”

I was SO DAMN EXCITED to dive into ORDER OF PROTECTION by Lexi Blake! It’s a first in a brand spankin’ new series aptly titled ‘Courting Justice’. I LOVE this because she is giving her die-hard fans some familiar faces, and she is giving the newbies a great starting off point to her brand of talent! Sexy, suspenseful, emotional, and ridiculously entertaining and witty, ORDER OF PROTECTION had me at “hello” so to speak. I adored all the characters, old AND new, and I just had an all-around great time reading it. Lexi Blake NEVER disappoints, so I knew from the get-go that I was going to fall HARD for the start of this series. Ms. Blake has woven her usual magic and now I’m completely addicted to a brand new series.

Henry and Win were so beautiful, so adorable, and so feisty with each other. This instant connection was so great to experience right alongside these characters and you couldn’t help but to root for these two. I adored how protective Henry was over Win (typical for a Lexi Blake gorgeous alpha) and I loved the pace that their story went and the over all happily ever after was simply beautiful and hard-fought. Lexi Blake ALWAYS rights directly from her heart and you can tell with each turn of the page.

I believe David’s story is up next, and I couldn’t be more excited! This series is going to turn out like the rest of her series and become another favorite of mine, I just know it!

Order of Protection is not my favorite Lexi Blake book. It is well written, with an intriguing plot and well drawn characters, but it lacks the charm and humor of the author's Bliss and Masters and Mercenaries series. Maybe it just lacks Ian Taggart!

Taylor Winston-Hughes, famous as the heiress to a fortune and a reality tv show, is trying to leave that life behind-along with the anorexia that nearly claimed her life. So when she meets well known attorney Henry Garrison in his family's house on the beach, she tells him she is Win Hughes, and they share a special time together. But Henry is the only person who can help her when she is charged with murder. He feels betrayed when he finds out who she really is and isn't sure he should take her case. But circumstances throw them together for a long period of time-can he overcome his anger and free her both from the law and from the fears holding her back from a relationship?

While Win is an interesting character and very strong woman, I didn't particularly like Henry and didn't see what Win saw in him. Part of the problem is that they are both famous people, unlike the down to earth people we usually see from this author.

Having said that, this is still a good read filled with plot twists and turns, suspense, and a totally unexpected ending. A sub par book by Lexi Blake is still an outstanding book.

ARC from the publisher

Lexi Blake is an author that’s been on my radar for a while now, and I knew the second I saw the stunning cover of this book where I’d be starting. Order of Protection kicks off the Courting Justice series about three men who partner up and start a law firm. Unlikely allies as they may seem, each bring something different to the table. In this installment, we get Henry Garrison’s story. Henry is a recovering alcoholic who, six months sober, finds staying that way a constant struggle. I really enjoyed the first impression of Henry – he was charismatic and considerate, and he treated Win with respect from the get-go. Win’s character also won me over from the moment she was introduced. She was funny, quirky, and kind – all things Henry hadn’t had in his life in a long time. I really enjoyed the way this story took off with Henry and Win deciding they could be temporary for each other. But once they reconnect, things took a bit of a turn for them. I still liked Win’s character – she was as determined and feisty as ever. But Henry, upon learning who Win really is, turns into a bit of an ass. Now, I liked him in spite of this. I thought his reasons for being concerned were credible – he was going to, once again, be thrust into the spotlight and no matter how you spin it, Win lied to him. I would have been a bit wary, too. I just think there were maybe times he took his asshole-ish behavior too far, even if I understood his motivation. But I still couldn’t help but find him endearing. I wanted so badly for him to be able to move on from a previous bad relationship and be with Win, but the man liked to wallow. He let who he’d been for such a short time in his life define him, and it made me sad for him. He didn’t think he deserved Win or any kind of happiness.

This book, even though the word wasn’t used right away, was quite insta-lovey. And while that doesn’t usually work for me, I have to say, I totally bought into it here. I really felt like Henry, a recovering alcoholic, and Win, recovering from her eating disorder, were two souls just destined to meet and fall in love. As different as they were, they had a lot in common and there was a level of understanding between them that lent an authenticity to their entire relationship. I adored watching them fall in love…and then fight it. Oh, and the sex scenes in this one were seriously steamy! Henry loved to tease Win, and Win wasn’t afraid to ask for what she wanted, and anytime they were burning up the sheets, it was so hot!

Aside from the love story, the highlight of this book for me was Henry’s partners. I loved the banter between the men, and it was hilarious to me how Noah, with no effort whatsoever, brought out Henry’s ornery side. I also loved David, and how he was candid with Henry and wasn’t afraid to tell him when he was being a jerk. He was a good friend to Henry, and that was something Henry desperately needed. I am excited to see that David’s book is next!

There were some twists in this book, and while I had a vague idea of where the story would go, I was never sure of what was going to happen until the very end. And just when I thought the twists were over, another one would rise up and surprise me.

I get the feeling that some of the characters who made appearances in this book have stories of their own. Having been my first read from this author, I am not sure what books they’re from, but I’m sure long-time fans will be happy to see them. For me, Order of Protection was a fantastic introduction to Lexi Blake’s writing. Not only will I be continuing with the Courting Justice series, I’ll also be diving into her back list.

I love a good murder mystery mixed with a good romance, so I couldn't wait to pick this up when I read the synopsis. I also really enjoyed Lexi Blake's Lawless series, so I had high hopes going into this one!

When attorney Henry Garrison and Win Hughes meet, there's instant chemistry that they both are determined to fight. Especially since Win is actually Taylor Winston-Hughes, an orphaned rich girl with not the best reputation. But the two spend an unforgettable two weeks together and go their separate ways. When Taylor is accused of the murder of her best friend, she has to turn to Henry to help her figure out who did it and how to get her out of trouble. Henry is shocked and hurt when he learns who Taylor really is, but he soon learns he needs to focus on the case at hand, ignoring his emotions, or else Taylor's life could be ruined forever.

Right away, the pacing of this book was so weird to me. This book is marketed as the main character being accused of murder, but the actual murder doesn't even happen until almost halfway through the book. We spent over 100 pages watching Henry and Taylor circle each other. Then, their "two weeks" together happens in like two pages. I didn't even know what we spent the first half of the book on when we finally got to the action. I wanted so much more action, mystery, and intrigue than we got.

I did enjoy the romance and how Taylor and Henry were so hurt by their pasts in romance. I really enjoyed Henry's character and how he was just trying to be a better person, but his character couldn't carry the story. When it came to the mystery of the murder, I felt like I should have been surprised at the end, but I wasn't really that shocked. I was just left off wanting more.

While this one sounded like an amazing Law and Order type book with a romance, it fell flat to me. I think the main problem was the pacing. I really wanted to love these characters, but I didn't get the intensity and intrigue in the murder mystery that was occurring.

Order of Protection is the first book in author Lexi Blake's new Courting Justice series. This story begins with high-end defense attorney Henry Garrison at his childhood home in Chappaquiddick packing up personal possessions so the house can be sold. His life is a mess, financially and personally, after a very messy divorce from his Hollywood star wife. His drinking hasn't helped any. Rehab over Henry needs to get his life back together. He meets a beautiful lady who is jogging on the beach past his house. Win Hughes trips, falls and looks up to see her rescuer, Henry. So Boy meets Girl. Boy and Girl are very attracted to each other and begin a two week fling. Girl recognizes Boy but Boy doesn't recognize Billion Dollar Baby, reality TV star Taylor Winston-Hughes. Boy has sworn off interacting with any more Hollywood types. The revelation of the truth doesn't go over well in spite of their feelings for each other during their two week fling. Things get even more complicated when Win is accused of murder and asks Henry to defend her.

Lexi Blake has a most devious mind. The plot twists in this story kept me turning the pages well past my bedtime. To add to the enjoyment of the story we get to read about some of our favotite characters from Lexi's other series. In my eyes that is a super bonus. It looks like another winning series for this author!

Lexi Blake has done it again with her latest release, Order of Protection as she treats readers to a sexy blend of suspense, mystery, secrets, lies, deceit, and passion. With her sophisticated writing, she lures readers to be spellbound with her characters as showcases the strong connection and need they have for each other. With the strong chemistry of Win and Henry, Blake has readers like myself engrossed with the story as we discover who is behind the death of Win’s best friend’s murder and if Henry will be able to help Win out with the charges. So if you are looking for a book that deviously blends passion, romance, and suspense then this is the book for you.

The first few pages of this story almost made me put the book aside because I thought it was going to be some snooze-fest about people with too much money and out of control actors acting out, but surprisingly it was not. It was more about two people who had hit rock bottom after rising so high and were trying to find their feet after the fall. When you combine that with decades-old secrets and murder, what you get is a really enjoyable story with lots of surprising twists and turns. Once I got into the story, it was kind of hard to put down and I finished it within a day!

Both Taylor and Henry understood each other so well because in their own way, they had scrapped the bottom of the barrel and the only way out was up, one day at a time.

Taylor was a really sweet character, very far from the demanding diva I expected when I started reading this book and it was quite refreshing. Henry on the other hand, was quite annoying and it's easy to see how much of a douche he was when he was at the top of his career. His quick assumptions and tantrums did not me very much a fan of his.

One of my favorite parts of this story is the growing friendship among the three guys and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. Overall, it was a really interesting story and a new tone from Ms. Blake.

One thing I'll say is that it's hard to not measure this book (and others) against the Masters & Mercenaries series, against which it falls short obviously, but on its own, it's still a really enjoyable story and for me, the budding friendship among the characters here reminds me of the M&M series, so I am excited about what the author has in store for David and Noah.

Once again Lexi Blake gave me utter perfection with Order of Protection. This book sucked me in so fast and before I knew it I was hooked and not wanting anyone or anything to interrupt my reading.

Henry Garrison was a well known attorney who's recent divorce and other indiscretions have left him needing to work his way back to the top. And also left him determined to avoid another relationship. Meeting Win Hughes was unexpected, passionate and over too soon. He was trying to move on with his life until she winds up front and center again. It's just as unexpected and brings to light not only is she not who he thought she was, but she's been charged with murder. He needs this new case but he will have to deal with secrets, scandal, and the truth of his feelings as he fights to keep her free from prison.

This book was one I just got lost in. It was paced so well, it had great characters (some to hate and some to love) and the twists and turns made for a great read.

I'm so happy this is just the beginning of a new series because I can't wait to read more from this author and more about these characters.

Lexi Blake has been more miss than hit for me but this one surprised me. I loved Win. I also loved how the story played out and the drama of finding out who really did it (while it doesn’t take a genius to figure it out, I still enjoyed the journey). I even liked that the hero’s ex-wife was more of a complex character rather than a straight out bitch which was a nice change.
What I didn’t like was the hero and his judgmental arse! And it took him way too long to come to his senses over something I didn’t think was that big a deal. While I couldn’t see them having a lasting relationship in the real world, it worked here and I liked the heroine (and the ex-wife lol) enough to give this book 3.5 stars.

WHEW! This book was AMAZING! I was quickly immersed in Taylor and Henry's story! I couldn't put this book down and devoured it as quickly as possible! I loved getting lost in Lexi's world. This book had everything! Suspense, mystery, romance, murder .... and it sucked it's teeth into me and wouldn't let go until the very end! Taylor hasn't had it easy from the very beginning. There was a tragic loss in her life and she was raised by her uncle. However, fame and fortune has a price to pay. Taylor nearly lost her life. Now, she's trying to come back and figure out who she is. She doesn't want a part of the past that nearly took her life. With a murder charge, things come full steam at Taylor and doesn't seem like things will go her way. She needs a powerhouse lawyer and only Henry will do. I LOVED the twists and turns this book took! I loved the passion and the intensity between Taylor and Henry. And there were just some things I never saw coming! I don't want to ruin this book for you, but if it sounds interesting to you, I HIGHLY recommend this book! Lexi Blake knocked it out of the ballpark with this read!

The first time i read a novel by Lexi Blake, it was through her collaboration with Shayla Black and that dates back to almost 3 years ago. Since then, i've moved on to her Masters & Mercenaries series and fell in love with her individual novels - it was my first taste of what she can deliver about not only a lifestyle that many still don't understand, but it also gave me a very good idea of how she pens a story to make you sit at the edge of your seat and pray that you won't be throwing your book or kindle across the room when everything either goes one way when you expected it to go another or when it ends with an ending that makes you have to wait for the next instalment for more information about the characters you fell in love with.

Order of Protection was interesting. It's a new series by this author and yet had so many previous characters that you met in other books by this author. Longer than i would have expected (it's no secret that more often than not, i'll pick up a book that has roughly 200 pages, and this was clocking at 340 pages or so), there was no dull moment in this book. From the very beginning where we met Henry Garrison and heard his story and then meeting Win and the reasons on why she hid her true identity were captivating.

So many elements that made me think of Law & Order, Order of Protection was something else. Where Master & Mercenaries showed you the law working to protect, this new series gives you a bird's eye view of the law portion and proving without a shadow of doubt that a charged party of a heinous crime is innocent when the evidence says otherwise.

I liked this introduction to this series and i can't wait to see where Lexi Blake will be taking the next books and what journey readers will be taken on.
