I’m just starting this one. Sounds like you guys weren’t really fans of the book.

5 out of my next 7 books planned are buddy reads so hoping to get some good points on the board, although it sure does make me feel behind.

I also hated how difficult things were between Dee and Katy in this book and I hope things get better in the next one.

I felt kind of confused at the end there. So at some point Blake realized that she had an opal, but how? And I guess he took it from her when Simon was attacking them and it was mentioned that his arm was around her neck. But did he always have the plan to screw them over? How did he know about the Arum? Where did they all come from? Or did he just take the opportunity? Because they let him go, so it seemed planned out.

I didn't even realize that Daemon finally said "I love you" at the end, when Katy couldn't get out. Went back and read that part again after reading your comment Teri. If he was so ready to say it, though, don't know why he just didn't say it one of the dozen other times earlier when she said it to him. What was he waiting for?

I'm all on edge now because it feels like there should be more in the book and we're just completely unresolved. I hate when books end like this. (hide spoiler)]

Up to Chapter 17

(view spoiler)[They only have 15 minutes to get in and out of the compound that's heavily secured and that they've never been too before. Yeah that should go well... And they better keep a close hand on Chris when they find him because if they get caught, Blake will turn them in to save himself in a heartbeat.

What was that last scene? Did they even have sex? I know it's a YA book and I'm familiar with fade to black, but I'm not even sure what happened, lol (hide spoiler)]

Does anyone else feel like the writing in these books is... just... not that great? I know I'm probably supposed to care about these characters and about Katy and Daemon's relationship, but I honestly don't. And that's not usually a problem I have in books with romance.

I've never read this author before but have heard such great things about both this series and Throne of Glass that I hope I'm not setting my expectations too high.

I read the first two chapters this morning but I’ve got a few things today before I can read more so I’m going to post some comments once I get some time to sink my teeth into this book.
