Just finished the doorstopper I was working on, so I will definitely be working on shorter books for the next little bit. Don't worry, one book/week is not my usual reading average. My next book happens to have a title starting with U, so I was kind of hoping our next word would make use of that, but since the main character's name starts with O, it will still be a good fit.
I read a fair amount of LGBT books but it sounds like everyone else has tons that they are planning or interested in, so I will check my books, but I don't think we'll have a problem coming up with 10 books.
I started The Twelve this morning. I had to search online for a detailed summary of the first book in the series, because I forgot so much. I found some details, but I wish it were easier to see all the major plot points in series books since my memory is so bad.
I usually try to read the BOM and answer the questions, but don't like to volunteer to write them. I've already read this month's BOM but I plan to participate in the two next month.
So many good books mentioned here. I've read all of Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series and the Shades of Grey book and I have all his other books on my tbr.I'm obsessed with everything Ilona Andrews and I recently reread the Nevada Baylor series, but haven't read the 3.5 book since I'm saving it until at least book 4 comes out.
Also a big fan of Gail Carriger and read the first book in the Finishing School series recently. Hope to get to book 2 soon.
Hi all! I live in Winnipeg, Canada, and work in a lab doing transfusion medicine testing. I've got a husband and two cats.
I've been doing NRBC challenges for ages (Wheel, TT, WOBBLE, Cutthroat). The more intense, the better. I love to read everything, and my reading usually goes up during a good competitive challenge.
I've got my first book already picked out for the challenge. It works for B (at least, will have to check all the characters once I start), has 668 pages, and is tagged adventure.
This was a lot of fun. Glad to hear there is something team-related in the works. These are always my favourite challenges.

I haven't looked yet either. I just read whatever and when I'm done, fit it wherever it goes best. Of course I don't read very many books (beach level) so it's easier to fit books in.
Im just starting a new book and have to stop myself from noting what letter character names start with. The hardest part is when the challenge is just finished and my brain doesn’t know it yet.

DQs Day 6Star of Bethlehem
36. Lydia was very impulsive, in switching tickets with Hulda. Have you ever done anything so impulsive? What did it make you think about Lydia's character and situation?
I'm not very impulsive, I tend to think things through and go more in the other direction of not being able to make a decision. It made me very interested to know her story.
37. Being British, the idea that an airport is four hours drive away is insane to me - I mean, I can be in France in four hours! which means I find it hard to connect with the situation (and, incidentally, completely got Hulda's outrage in the airport that getting a bus wasn't practical!) Did the setting of the story add or distract from your reading?
I live in a big city in Canada, so everything I need is close by, but there also is not another city the same size or bigger for at least 5+ hour drive away. I envy Europe and the closeness of so many interesting places.
38. Ethan's family was a really tangible element to the story. Do you think Lydia fell for the boy or the mob?
More the family than the boy I think. She seemed desperate for family.
The Girl Who Woke the Dreamer
39. This story had a really unpleasant baddy, in the form of Reverend Thingy (I disliked him so much that all I retain of his name is that it began with S). Did you react strongly to him? Other characters?
Ugh, he was so creepy.
40. The fact that the baddy was the priest and the love interest was a primoridal god-like creature made this feel kinda anti-religion. Do you think it fitted with the holiday theme of the collection?
I didn't really feel it was anti-religion personally. The "bad" reverand/priest/pastor is such a common trope that I didn't even think about it. It was also nice to have a story that was a bit different. So many Christmas stories are a bit too sickly sweet for me.
41. The imagery in this story was really powerful. Did you enjoy it?
I did. Not as much as her novels, but that was probably due to the length. She always writes stories that are really "out there".

42. and finally: do you have a favourite story? which author(s) will you read more of?
I ended up rating the book 3 stars.
My favourites:
Midnights by Rainbow Rowell
It's A Yuletide Miracle, Charlie Brown by Stephanie Perkins
Welcome to Christmas, CA by Kiersten White
Star of Bethlehem by Ally Carter

I finished 2 of my claimed books and only have a bit left on my last one so I'm going to start:
which works for 3 out of our 6 remaining unclaimed tasks so slot it in anywhere:
17. Read a book with a dog on the cover (10 points)
21.Read a book that has the number 25 in the page count. (numbers may not be reversed) (10 points) - 256 pages
37.Read a book with snow on the cover ( 10 points)
So far it works for A in our spell-out (character Ashley)
