35559 To help:
- there's no minimum page count here
- nor format restrictions

so x.5 short stories could work - James SA Corey is a two author (and How It Unfolds was a fun read! not part of the Expanse series), ditto Ilona Andrews or Christina Lauren.

And you only need to be currently reading it!

I am hanging my head :(
35559 DQ Day 1 : Ch1-10

1. This is the first book by Adrienne Young, and I really liking her writing style so far as well as the witchy autumnal vibes of the story so far. (I really like the tea shop!) Have you read any of her other books and how are you finding this one?

It's my first by Young too. The writing is easy to read, and quick, but I'm finding all the atmosphere a bit overpowering. Total autumnal vibes, and I suspect that if I was reading it during the heat of summer I'd probably be really bouncning off of the vibe, so the timing is perfect!

2. What do you think of the island and life on the island so far? It seems really cut off from the rest of the world because the islanders keep to their own. But I think it also feels quite eerie the descriptions of the island.

I love an island, but this is TOO small and incestuous!

3. Are you as curious as me to find out what exactly happened the night of the fire, how Lily died, and why everyone blames August? It seems like there will be lots of secrets on the island.

Yeah! I'm cross that no one seems to have done any digging once August & his mum did a runner (not sure how long they waited after the fire to skedaddle - was it the same night??

4. What do you think will happen next? Is August going to start to look into what happened or do you think his presence on the island will result in secrets coming to the surface?

Bit of both. The fated love with Emery and August is already heavy handed and annoying me though. Poor Dutch! (absent him turning out to be the murderer all along - surely not?!)

NEWS!

The Mods have set up a fun game for while we are waiting for the turntable to start. Check it out here!

This is entirely optional, doesn't require more than a willingness to share the possibly dubious music on your playlists and your ability to make creative links to your current book!

Of course!

35559 Lucy wrote: "So if I get a red book that covers the letter O with a piano in the text, that's pretty much bang on?"

Exactly! even better if it can cover multiple letters - true perfection is covering ALL the letters plus both bonuses, but we don't expect that! :D

35559 Yup, books need to go to the spell-out, and then we can get the bonuses on top. but we can use one book for both bonuses of colour cover and instrument in text, We can find multiple instruments though.

35559 I bet we could! And I have a marimba! (Natives, by Akala, so not an O, but an A is pretty acceptable!)

Who else is in?!

35559 We only need 10 instruments, so don't feel like we have to get a bingo of them all - unless we want that as a private team challenge? Could be fun! :D

Marie, we are using good ol' eyeballs, not tin-eye, don't worry!

35559 @Andy: I mostly define it as 90s guitar based UK music. Radiohead's first two albums, Pablo Honey and The Bends, certainly qualify as Britpop I'd say, even if later albums are less so.

@Sarah: hahahaha less "Cat snagging it" and more "Cat threatened a tantrum if it wasn't included on the list and she didn't get it!" It's not pretty, behind the curtain, sometimes! ;-D

35559 Wow! I didn't get to Knebworth, but that must have been insane!

I got to Reading festival a few times. saw Foo Fighters when they were in the second, tented stage, which was all sorts of mayhem and brilliance - people climbing the struts and everything. I think the main stage was Stone Roses in their peak period of self-loathing, so they were lethargic and NOT good. never seen a main stage crowd so sparse!

35559 I was at the hairdresser a couple of months ago and Babies (Pulp) came on just as I was paying and leaving. I had to spin out the process so I could listen a bit longer, boogie with my swish new haircut too! That's a happy song!

35559 excitingly I think we are now at 30 dead monsters! Though I suspect Wheel will slow us down now
