Couldn't possibly say, sorry!

Glad you are feeling better - and only very slightly so that you're at peak performance for wheels!

Alrighty team! just over 24 hours before we can start. I hope everyone's busy finishing off their current reads, and have identified their first book for Wheels!
I'm reading a Harry Dresden (Changes, #12, so we are way past the fun frolics and into the emotional trauma...) and The Deep which is a slow burn creepy set on the Titanic and her sister ship as a WWI hospital ship, both will be done with tomorrow.
First up for me will be
- Natives: Race and Class in the Ruins of Empire (marimba)
- The Chain (red cover, not looked for instruments)
What about you folk?

ETA. not lob. place sneakily at a door / tower / what have you. so it's a "shaped charge"

and yet Emery also didn't break her connection spell thing!?
I saw a GR review of this book that said 'this is a lot of drama over some apples'. And I'm inclined to agree.
hahahahaha! so true!
Though the amount of angst the UK has shown over the vandalism chopping down of the Sycamore Gap tree is impressive

Colour of Magic & Light Fantastic are VERY different beasts (beast, really, as they can't really be read separately in the same way as the others) from the rest of the Discworld series, and are most obviously of their time and place and requiring knowledge of the books they are sending up. Plus Rincewind is probably the most Marmite of Pratchett's characters too

13) This section begins with Emery having another nightmare. She is seeing Lily drowning by her own hand but before she wakes it's herself in the water. What do you think this means? Is it just symbolizing the pain she feels or could it be something more?
I think it's something more
14) I thought the chapter from Albertine's POV was the most interesting. She clearly knows more than anyone about the magic that inhabits the island and the people that live there. I found it extremely interesting that Henry Salt was cursed and was dying. Who do you think cursed him and why? Why do you think Albertine saved him, even knowing the type of person he was?
I don't know! but this is the most interesting it! especially when also coupled with Noah's mysterious cough - someone cursed him too??
15) August and Emery finally have a conversation about that night and we find out how the fire was started. Were you surprised with the part August played?
SOOOO Unsurprised! especially given I called it in day 2. the least surprising reveal ever, as if I guessed it, when reading lightly and at pace, it was hardly a shock.
16) We see another side of Dutch in this section. Once he realized Emery knew the truth about him he got drunk and went after August. He had some pretty nasty things to say about Emery and Lily. Does this change your perception of him? Why do you think he would stay with Emery all this time if that's how he really felt about her? After finding out he lied about his whereabouts that night not to protect August but to protect himself, do you think he could have something to do with Lily's killing?
Yeah, he's not shown himself to advantage there, and the bit about Lily being a whore - was she sleeping with someone else?? Was she even sleeping with Dutch - maybe he lied to August back in the day, which is more likely than Lily not telling Emery the fairly unshocking fact that she was with Dutch. Whereas Lily not telling Emery about sleeping with an older man (Jake?) is likely.
17) Emery gives August the deed to Salt Orchards and we find out that they forged August's signature to give the Orchard to the town, which most likely means that it was left to him. Do you think the entire town council played a part in that? Why do you think they would do that? Do you think it has anything to do with Lily's killing?
Yup! Given August had showed little interest in keeping the vital orchard (seriously guys, diversify your economic base rather than literally have all your eggs in one unpleasant family's control!), I can get why they'd want to take control. I don't think it has more to do with Lily's killing than the islanders not liking August and wanting control of the money
18) This section was filled with so much information I had to pick and choose what to ask about LOL. Was there anything else about these chapters that stuck out to you? Anything you were surprised at?
I think you covered the major points!
oh! no! the blood moon oath that Emery cast. WTF???????? I got the impression that it would be a two way binding, tying August (without his consent or knowledge) to her too. If I got that wrong I'll be very relieved, but still, it's SO not a cool thing to do, and why Emery wouldn't have cancelled it immediately (couple of years) after August scarpered I can't think! 14 years of being tied to someone miles and miles and miles away? What a dick move to inflict on yourself! and then not to break it? If the love is soul-deep (ack! yack! bleurgh!) then it doesn't need some coercive magic control. and if it isn't, why tie yourself / rely on that bond without, you know, WORKING at the relationship?!
Yeah. that bit seriously annoyed me, as the cherry on the icing of the fated love triangle steaming heap of poo!

sure! the link to sign up is upstream somewhere, or - easier to find - in the All About thread. At this point you aren't guaranteed a team, but we might be able to shuffle you into one, especially if you are a book a fortnight.
