Vikki’s comments from the Nothing But Reading Challenges group.

Yay - got my copy today... after 3 bookshops!

I think I remember people commenting about references to other books when I read 11/22/63. I never pick up on them because I haven't read King's other books....

Here's a few of the questions I mentioned in my copy of the book.

Do you think there's any significance to the letter A in this book - think of camille's family in particular.

I agree with your comments about that linking in with her job as a journalist too. I also think it's telling that (view spoiler)[ she makes the effort to not let people see the scars, keeping them covered, especially when she insisted on keeping her clothes on with Richard. My initial idea when I read the blurb was that the words were tattoos - just wondering if anyone else assumed that before reading the book too? (hide spoiler)]

I read the 1st book last spring and think it took me about a month - but yet again I was reading other books alongside it.

I think I ended up longer but I was reading a couple of other books at the same time. I loved 11/22/63 though, it was 1 of my favourite reads in 2013

I agree that's it's still relevant today. What does anyone think about (view spoiler)[her choice of words to cut into herself. I can't imagine how difficult it would be to cut words all over her body. You often hear that people cut so that they feel something or have control, and I think camille's choice with the words adds a whole new dimension to that. (hide spoiler)]

I seem to be having a slow reading week this week. :( Probably because I'm slowly making my way through Villette... as well as reading Mr Mercedes.

I like books where you get view points from both the detective & the murderer - it seems like we're getting quite a bit from Mr Mercedes. One book I read earlier this year just had a page or two at the start of each chapter (maybe less in print, I read it as an e-book). I find it really interesting to get inside the minds of criminals and try to find out why they committed the crimes they did. I'm hoping that's going to be the case in this book.

I'm only about a quarter way through so far. I'm quite liking Bill Hodges as the main character. I want to find out more about Mr Mercedes - I agree that he does come across as disturbed & creepy Emma.

I have a few discussion questions in the back of my copy if anyone is interested I can post them up here?

I finished it this morning - I'll save my comments until you guys get a chance to read a bit more! Of the 3 books, for me, camille has been the most likeable of the main characters.

Finished Sharp Objects this morning which is also a buddy read

I'm going to start this one when I finish Sharp Objects - I'm already 2 thirds of the way through it so I reckon I'll get started Mr Mercedes tomorrow or Tuesday

I'm really looking forward to the final book - I'll be starting it as soon as possible when I get a copy

I'm about 5 chapters in so far, interested to see how everything is going to pan out through the rest of the book.
As a main character, I'm warming to camille more than I did to Libby in Dark Places which I read in January.
