I think though, that if several people are entering at the same time things can go weird. I know that mine have disappeared between me adding a book and looking at the tower tabs.
I'll add you.
Elinor wrote: "Well, I feel a bit bad about badmouthing Fourth Wing because I’m rather enjoying it!"Lol. Different strokes, Elinor. I absolutely disliked it. I'm glad you're enjoying it though. You're not alone in enjoying it.
Cris, I am with you on teal, but all those clouds are clearly why Tineye said grey. But you could always use it for the letters.
Since you all are much faster readers than me, I will only claim a wheel task if I'm just about finished with a book. So don't think I'm not wanting to join, I just don't want to slow down the process.
Nanci, I felt exactly the same as you. I'm just about to start the The Once and Future Witches (alongside the Goldfinch), which I hope is a little less flowery but just as well written as January. Nothing beats The Starless Sea in the crazy long, overly verbose, yet still beautiful prose and a decent story stakes. That book was like watching paint dry, yet I couldn’t not listen.
Second is still awesome. But I think we are going to rock july. Off to the fishmongers and hardware store. I've got a busy day today so will probably only be able to finish Fourth Wing. But tomorrow I'll have artificial condition done. And I'll start on the Goldfinch, my final Mod tower book.

For real about the f-bombs! I didn’t notice them so much in the beginning, but as she's "grown in confidence" her f word usage has increased. I'm sure there's a direct correlation and we could probs produce a graph. I have a favourite one of these gems too. Sadly, mine is audio, so I don't know for sure how it is written, but I imagine it looks like this "HE. FUCKING. WINKED."
Why? Why use it there? Would seriously he winked or unbelievable he winked or he actually unbelievably winked not have conveyed her disbelief as adequately? It kind of takes away the effect the word has by over the overuse. Also, it reminds me of me at 12, when I thought I sounded grown up using it. And therefore, used it all the time except around my mom, who would have literally put a bar of soap in my mouth. Anyway, Violet reminds me of a twelve year old with her swearing.
Suzanne wrote: "Keli wrote: "Kirsten, it didn't come across as dissing TJK. Suzanne is so right about taste. There isn't a book that could maintain a 5.00 rating. Eventually, someone with not enjoy it. I can't wai..."Lol, that's exactly why I don't read ya.
I really don't want to ruin this book for any one and if you love it, take everything I say with a grain of salt. I am very much in the minority opinion. Here, however, are my impressions.
My mental image of Violet

Xaden, just imagine some of tattoos as scars and a signet or whatever-

My mental image everytime Violet looks at or talks about Xaden -

And I'll leave you with my favorite sentence, and there are some real whoppers of cringe and bad writing in here, but this one wins because it had me questioning and laughing at a moment of intense action, which is probably not the tone the author intended. But the scene is Violet, our hero, fighting an arch- nemesis (she has many). He obviously is trying to kill her. So, very serious. Then I read this, he comes "Barrelling toward me with a series of kicks and punches I'm not ready for." And my mind imagines something along the lines of

But it's even more ridiculous in my head because it's a "series." So he's doing the gif above lots! Language is important. A few slight changes would have me picturing what I imagine she meant. Like he barrelled towards me, then performed or executed or emitted or discharged a series of kick and punches...
But what do i know. Only one of us is a NYT best selling author.
Murderbot is soooooo good. And what's weird is that it's prety much just the inner-monologue of an introvert self-aware ai robot.
Kirsten, it didn't come across as dissing TJK. Suzanne is so right about taste. There isn't a book that could maintain a 5.00 rating. Eventually, someone with not enjoy it. I can't wait to finish the fourth wing. If it wasn't audio and for dq points, I would have dnf it long ago. Maybe I'm just tooold for it. However, Suzanne, who is obvs much younger than me, either in truth or spirit, is loving it. I cannot stand all that annoying inner-monologue stuff. Or the "omg he's so hot but he wants to me" malarkey. Seriously, if a guy wanted to kill me and i truly believed it, his hotness would be the last thing on my mind. I'm willing to suspend disbelief, it's a fantasy after all, but our protagonist reminds us every three minutes that Xaden would like to kill her. It's quite infuriating. I am going to hold off finishing it today though. It will be my first book of july, since i want to finish Artificial Condition tonight
I loved both Lightning-Struck Heart and The House in the Cerulean Sea. They are so sweet and, the latter, wholesome. I saw a headline today about some Missouri man sentenced to life for caging and dismembering a woman. Life is truly horrific sometimes. So, I appreciate the super saccharine tone of TJK and escaping into mind and heart of a plain old-fashioned good guy protagonist.

I've started fourth wing. Not really sure it's my thing. I am only about 10% in. For some reason i thought this was a WWI LGBTQ book, like Regeneration. Don't know why i thought that.
