35559 Nope, you just have to mark it "read" to count, so you're good (although feel free to write a review if you want).

Updated goals:
- Character is a werewolf
- Set in time period "Prehistory"
- Has birthstone Garnet in text or title
- Has a pink cover
- Yellow text on the cover

35559 Nice job on the Child Thief Sandy! Points from the book, AND BOM, AND writing DQs!

I was hoping to get to join in on the "Pretty Girls" discussion, but I'm currently 25th on the waiting list at the library...don't think it's going to get to me in time.

35559 And all that "optional info" could include character names, primary location, timeframe, in addition to oddities like a gargoyle.

35559 So I've been stalking some of the other team forums (it's been an entertaining way to procrastinate at work), and saw one suggestion for posting on the Books Read threat:

-the book
-page numbers
-date read
-any open goals it may work for
-if it was a BOM then if you wrote DQs or participated in the discussion
-OPTIONAL ; anything interesting about the book that may count for a later open goal (for example, there's a gargoyle in the book)

What do you all think? Useful going forward? (We haven't posted too much so far so probably don't need to go back and update old posts)

35559 Ok, finished my first book! When the Moon is Low by Nadia Hashimi

When the Moon is Low by Nadia Hashimi

Also, it's got 56 chapters (didn't even realize that until just at the end!), so that will work for the first goal.

35559 Oh yeah, I totally forgot about that. Yes, that's probably what we're supposed to be doing. :)

That will definitely make it easier to go back and check on these early books when get goals in the later months.

Hahah I know, I didn't even know that was a category option!

35559 Our newest goal is:
Read a book set in the time period "Prehistory"

So updated list of goals:
-- Read a book with 51-60 chapters
-- Read a book where the world ends
-- Read a book shelved (listed on the first page on GR) as juvenile - plurals and spelling acceptable
-- Read a book where a character is a werewolf
-- Read a book set in the time period "Prehistory"

Also, for anyone new to the goal process, any book you read at any time during the challenge can be applied to a goal whenever it pops up. So for example, if you finish a book today, and in a month we get a goal that would fit that book, you can still use it. So make sure you're paying attention to the goals and think about all the books you've read, just in case any fit!

35559 Looks like Kim was the first to finish a book for the team, nice job!

Annnnd if I'm understanding the goal correctly, that should satisfy the "Read a book that can be purchased in a box set/bundle/anthology" goal. So an extra 5 points!

35559 My favorites are thrillers or horror. But I'll also read YA, fantasy, sci fi, historical fiction or literary fiction. I don't usually seek out romances or much non-fiction, although for books that get stellar reviews I'll check them out.

Makes perfect sense, and station eleven was exactly what I had in mind. Thanks!

35559 For the goal where the world ends, how literal should that be? Does the world need to completely end and people need to leave and live in space or on another planet? Or for example, if a virus wipes out most of the population, but some people survive and live off the land, would that work?

(OR maybe a teenager doesn't get invited to the dance and OMG the world is over!) :)

35559 I've got A Window Opens by Elisabeth Egan , A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara , and When the Moon is Low by Nadia Hashimi checked out from the library, so that's what I"ll start with.

I was excited to see a couple of them were nominated for best books of 2015! Need to read them quickly so I can vote!

35559 I'm in the DC area. We're doing a pedometer challenge at work, so I get a lot of reading done while walking on the treadmill after work :)
