Dec 05, 2015 07:50PM

35559 Yeah, so the holiday goals are different from the other ones, the books have to be started after the goal was posted. I updated the goal post with the date of each of the goals, since that can be hard to keep track of.

Dec 05, 2015 07:42PM

35559 The goal was posted about an hour and 45 minutes ago, so that will work if you started the book after that time.

35559 Ashley Bell stars with "The"
35559 Discussion Questions for December 4, 2015
Chapters 6-7

Q11. Once on the carousel ride, Shadow now can see who Wednesday/Odin, Mr. Nancy/Anansi, Mr. Czernobog/Bielebog. Did you see this coming or know these men were gods?

Yeah, mostly from the comments that have already been made here. And enough supernatural-type things were happening that it seemed likely that all the characters had a god alternate identity.

. Wednesday gave a speech about the new gods, did you see the kids that bound Shadow up as the new gods of credit card, freeway, internet, etc. Does this give you an idea of what will come between the old gods and new gods?
It seems like the types of conflicts we've seen already will continue and escalate as the "storm" they've been discussing approaches

Q13. Laura came to save the day for Shadow. Did you see this one coming (lol the guard in the cell alone with his magazine)? Do you think Shadow will find a way to make Laura alive again?
No. I think Laura will eventually be able to let go of this purgatory she's in and actually be able to die, once she's assured that Shadow is safe.

Q14. Should Shadow take Lucille Ball/Technology/new gods offer and switch sides?
They seem to have set it up clearly as good vs. bad so far, so while that may be debatable overall, in the storyline I think he's making the correct choice.

Q15. We are now a little past the quarter of the book. Are you enjoying the book? Is it what you thought it would be? Are you enjoying the humor in the book? Do you like the little side stories between some of the chapters?
I'm curious to see how/if the side stories end up tying into the rest of the narrative. But other than that, I'm really not sure if I like it or not. I think the idea of old vs. new being portrayed as good vs. evil is just a bit overdone and obvious. Technology and advancement doesn't have to be evil.
