Chapters 1-3
1. Why did you decide to read this book? Have you read other books by Neil Gaiman? Did someone recommend it to you?
I haven't read anything else by him yet, but I had heard good things about this book. And it was at the library so easy to pick up for the BOM read. :)
2. In the first chapter we're introduced to some of Shadow's fellow prison inmates - Low Key Lyesmith, the Iceman, and Sam Fetisher. Do you think any of these chracters will play a part in the rest of the book or were they just background flair?
Agree with some of the others. Hadn't thought anything of them until I saw Vicky's comment about Loki.
3. What do you think of Mr. Wednesday? I think I caught a few hints about who he really is - anyone else have an idea?
Definitely think he was in some way responsible for Laura and Robbie's deaths. He knows too much about it, and his ability to find Shadow even when Shadow himself doesn't know where he's going certainly has a mystical hint to it.
4. What are you thoughts on Laura, her infidelity and her return from the dead to protect Shadow? Do you think she is one of Shadow's crazy dreams that he's been getting?
I don't dislike her as much as others seem to. I thought it was an interesting approach to the infidelity issue - she wasn't doing it because she fell in love with him, she stayed emotionally faithful to Shadow, but she needed companionship.
5. There seems to be a lot of interesting things being set up even in these early chapters, what have you found most intriguing in the opening scenes of the book?
I can't quite get my head around how the scene with Bilquis would even look. Did the guy shrink? Or was she like an anaconda swallowing a deer? It's definitely intriguing, curious to see what other crazy things end up happening.
