I'm having this issue too - mine is showing that I'm at the Sapling category, when I should be in Leaf. I was able to fix the bonus points formula, but not exactly sure how this one works and don't want to screw it up.

35559 Phew, thanks! :)

35559 Wanted to check on these two for red &white:
Cherry by Nico Walker
(tineye says it has pink and gray in it, but the cover is completely red and white dots, which create the illusion of other colors when they're small)

On Beauty by Zadie Smith
(Tineye says this is 100% red, which can't be right, because the title is white. But it's such a small amount I guess it's not processing?)

35559 Hi, I think my question earlier might have been missed - post 224.

Thanks!

35559 For bonus title words, would "Gemini" work? (Since the birthdates of the sign fall solidly in spring) How about "rain"? (April showers bring May flowers)

Thanks!

The problem I've had with Google books is that it only shows me 5 mentions. Which is fine if you only need it in the book once, but not helpful when you're looking for a scenario with certain words (like someone who won't cut their hair!)

35559 For task #2 (a character has lost one of their senses) - does it have to be a permanent loss? Or, say for example, could someone be reacting to a trauma and have a psychological short-term response? (Thinking specifically of Black-Eyed Susans, where the MC went temporarily blind after escaping from being kidnapped. Her vision came back eventually)

35559 Agreed, this was so much fun! And I read far more books in February than I ever have before!

35559 For Feb task #2, would "summer-2018" be ok?

35559 For the task to read a book where a character's name is also a word, does it have to be the first name? Or can it be the last name if that's what they go by?
35559 1. Why did you decide to read this BOM?
I really enjoyed The Enchanted and was excited to read another book by Rene Denfeld.

2. What do you think of Denfeld’s writing? Each chapter follows Naomi and Snow Girl. Do you like the way the book alternates this way?
I really like it, I'm expecting that the stories will collide at some point, or we'll see some interesting parallels between Miranda and Naomi's experience.

3. Naomi is “called to the work”. She has found 30 kids. Why do you think she is called to the work?
Well, the description of the book said that once upon a time Naomi was a lost child herself, so I'm assuming that's what that means.

4. Naomi dreams about her past, but does not remember it. Do you think this is a good thing? How do you think this would affect a person?
I imagine some of her past is going to start coming back to her, as she gets deeper into the experience of trying to locate MIranda.

5. Naomi’s first fairy tale was about a girl named Madison who got lost. Naomi is currently searching for a girl named Madison Culver. Do you think this is a coincidence?
The fairy tale was snow girl's, not Naomi's, and I was under the impression that snow girl was Miranda.

6. Mr. B is pretty much a mystery. He is deaf and cannot speak. What are your thoughts about Mr. B? How do you think Mr. B got Snow Girl?
It sounds like Mr B is essentially feral. Maybe he grew up in the woods without any contact with people to teach him to speak. I think Snow Girl essentially stumbled upon him while she was lost in the woods.
35559 9. Julian has pretended to be Scarlet's fiance to get in to to Caraval. Do you think this pretence could have repercussions down the line? who for do you think? Scarlet or Julian or both?
I think there will definitely be repercussions, but not exactly sure how. Perhaps if they win at the end, Legend will make them get married, since he's supposed to be her fiance. Or there will be emotional repercussions, if they fall in love and then Scarlett doesnt want to return to her life.

10. Why do you think Scarlet has kept up this pretence?
I think at first because Scarlett is pretty scared of life, and going into something like this by herself would be terrifying. Having a partner would make it easier, and Julian has experience with Caraval before. But she's obviously becoming more drawn to him, so there's more keeping her invested in the pretense now.

11. Why do you think the rule about being indoors by dawn is kept so strictly? What do you think happens to those who don't make it?
Maybe something about how things always appear differently at night, it's easier to be taken in by 'magic' in the dark?

12. "We want you to get swept away but be careful of being swept too far away." "These confirm you've heard the rules twice, twice, and that neither the Caraval Estate or master legend is responsible in the event of any untimely accidents, madness or death." Would you sign this contract? In blood no less? Why do you think so many would sign? Is the prize worth the risk?
Sure I'd sign it. The Caraval sounds like it's really difficult to get invited to, so people have had to make a big effort to get there in the first place. It's also easy to convince yourself that you won't be the one who gets taken in.

13. What so you think of the people Scarlet has met so far? Would you trust any of them?
Definitely not the players, but I think the people like Nigel and Jo are worth trusting. I think they're trying to be mysterious and present things in riddles, but deep down there's truth to what they're saying.

14. What are your impressions of the Caraval so far? And the game to find Tella? Do you think Scarlet can win?do you think what was happening to the woman in the dove grey dress was really part of the game?
I think Scarlett will win, but it will be very close. I have no idea what's going on with the woman in the grey dress, but I do suspect it's part of the game, although perhaps a more sinister aspect to the game than we see at first?

15. What do you think the tunnels under the Castillo Maldita are really for?
For Legend to get around discretely so he can get the game going.

16. What do you thunk really happened to Julian at the castillo Maldita?
I have no idea...
35559 My copy just came in from the library, going to try to catch up!

1. Why did you decide to read this book?
I saw it on Good Read's list of highly anticipated books for 2017

2. Scarlett and Tella's Father punishes the sister that did nothing wrong. Do you think this is an effective way to keep the sisters from misbehaving?
It certainly shows how much the sisters care about each other. As long as they do, then it is somewhat effective. Obviously not completely since Tella still ran away!

3. What do you think happened to Scarlett and Tella's Mother?
I think it has something to do with Caraval also, maybe she managed to get invited once and fell in love with Legend.

4. Scarlett hopes her arranged marriage will bring a better life for her and her sister. What do you think?
I think it's possible that it could have, but I don't think sh'ell get the chance now.

5. Tella tells Scarlett, "There's more to life than staying safe.". What do you think Tella means by this?
They're not really living by just trying to exist, avoid all conflicts

6. Tella makes it appear as though the sisters have been kidnapped so their Father won't punish them when they get back. Do you think this will work?
I guess it depends on how common kidnappings are in that area?

7. An attraction seems to be developing between Scarlett and Julian. Did this surprise you? Do you like them together?
No, something weird is going on here. The situation of Tella disappearing is too weird.

8. Julian has revealed that he wanted another chance at Caraval. Why do you think he wants another chance at Caraval?
He must have gone at some point and either couldn't get in or didn't get the experience he wanted.
