35559 For task 8 "that was published in the 1980s", can this include a book that is a bindup of two stories from the 1980's but the bindup was published later?

For example, Once More for Love: Blithe Images / Search for Love by Nora Roberts was published in 2016 but it is made up of two of her works that were published in 1982. Would I be able to use this for that task?

35559 Will we be getting the round 3 tasks soon?

35559 Team Lava No More is requesting to be bumped up to Magma as well.

Here is our spreadsheet.

Thank you.

35559 I think what made me second guess it is that the FAQ says you can use it for each instance it is used but the example it gives it for a word used in more than one task.
Aug 21, 2019 06:49AM

35559 Ok, so I know we can use a word more than once if it shows up in more than one task. What about when the same word shows up more than once in the same task?

35559 Does everything we read have to go towards the challenge as long as it's eligible? Like if for instance, say my team finishes the 40 books for our level on day 10 out of 14. If we read during those last 4 days, are we required to add them and be bumped up a level? Or do we not have to because we completed everything needed for our team level?

Sorry I'm just not sure how it works as I haven't done a challenge before where the team reads within a specific level of books.

I just sent you the link.

35559 Minx wrote: "My only comment about scenario 1 would be that when we hit zone 3 we do largest point words to smallest. That way we get the most points possible in case we can’t finish the plan as is for some reason."

I agree that's the best plan.

I added a tab to the planning sheet with the words from scenario 1 listing in order of highest points to lowest (with the short ones worth the same amount in a random order that can be changed).

I can easily update the sheet if we find a different combination of words for higher points.

35559 Donna, did Kate send you the planning sheet for zone 3? If not, I can PM it to you.

If she did, let me know what you think of Scenario 1 which would net us 1,300 points for the round. Minx had no objections to it and I don't think Kate did either. But if you are able to come up with a higher point scenario, add it to the planning sheet and we can do it instead.

35559 Yes, I had a great time with everyone! I hope to see you all in future team challenges.

Here is the link to the countdown.

It starts at 7AM EST this Monday, the 12th.

That's great then we have all the countdown tasks covered.

I don't know how to add anyone, but how I got access was I PMed the mod account my email address along with a link to the team spreadsheet. So hopefully that will work?

Also with the TinEye, do we include or exclude the background when looking at color percentage. Thanks. I just can't remember."

I believe for TinEye we include the background when looking for color. So you have to uncheck the box that excludes it by default. At least that's how I remember it being, but I could be confusing the rules of this group with another.

35559 That's a good strategy Minx on the shorter books. I also picked easier reads for the countdown books with a short book (124 pages) and a quick read (cozy mystery 292 pages) so that I can finish them by Tuesday night.

I figure the faster we get through the countdown books the better as long as we all read for at least one of the tasks to avoid injury.

Speaking of that. Donna, do you have something that works for the remaining tasks (1, 2 or 5)? If needed, I can switch out my books if tasks 9 or 10 work better for you.

After the countdown tasks are done, if we decide to go with the strategy I suggested for max points that involved Safe Zone 2 (scenario 1 in my sheet unless someone else found one with more points), I do have books that work for all of the tasks in that zone except for #2. I just couldn't find a cover that had enough red with H-O-T in the author name.
Aug 06, 2019 02:47PM

35559 Yeah I spent about an hour and a half on it this morning, but most of that time was putting together how much each word was worth. I may try looking some more later to see if there's any higher points combination.
Aug 06, 2019 12:18PM

35559 Question about safe zone 3. When choosing words from the tasks, does the sections in parentheses count? For example in task 7, could we pick from "as listed on Goodreads" since it's part of the task?

I just sent you the link, go ahead and forward it to Donna. I set it up so anyone who has the link can edit (I couldn't figure out the email only option), which is why I wanted to PM it to you guys.

If you come up with any other high point scenarios, feel free to add them.

Also if it would help, once we pick which route we want to go I could add in another tab so we could plan the books we want to read for SZ3 then we could just move them to the official sheet as we finish each word.

35559 Minx wrote: "please PM me, I would like to take a look at this and YES! I love your strategies!! I am all for the most points we can get! :D"

Ok, I just sent you the link. I think I set it up so that if you have the link, you should be able to edit. So if you come up with any other scenario that works, go ahead and add it.
