I’m number 21 on the hold list for Gideon so not sure if it’ll come in on time but I will be listening to Wilder Girls on audio. Does it matter when we start? I only listen to audiobooks during the weekdays.

35559 A nonfiction recommendation for any of you who are interested:

I finished Beyond the Pale: Folklore, Family and the Mystery of Our Hidden Genes. It’s a beautifully written memoir about the author’s experience with her daughter who has albinism. I thought it was just wonderful. It weaves together genetics, folklore and storytelling in such a profound way. Bonus points because the author is a Canadian which I didn’t realize before picking the book up.

I would actually say yes to brown!

35559 Just a quick update. I'll have the following books finished by the end of this round:

Stalin: Volume I: Paradoxes of Power, 1878-1928
Beyond the Pale: Folklore, Family and the Mystery of Our Hidden Genes

The Girl With All the Gifts - this one is a maybe!

That’s good to know, Lexi. I think I’ll focus on finishing Stalin then! Let us know if things change and we need to up our numbers.

35559 I think it’ll take me until the end of the week to finish Stalin

35559 So Stalin: Volume I: Paradoxes of Power, 1878-1928 is taking me a bit longer to read than I expected. I’m enjoying it but it’s pretty dense.

I can either focus on finishing this book and Pumpkin: The Curious History of an American Icon or I can put it aside (and leave it for next week) and read a few shorter books? The Stalin book would give a nice boost to our points for the week but not sure if we want to focus on number of books read at this point. Let me know what works best for the team. I’m good with either option!

35559 @Lexi also I noticed you put The Snow Child on the planning sheet. I’m planning on reading it before the end of the year - saving it as a winter read. Excited to hear your thoughts!

I started listening to Gideon on audio earlier this week and quickly realized that it’s a book I would prefer reading. I’ve put a hold at the library. Hopefully I’ll get it soon! 🤞🏽

35559 Donna wrote: "How is everyone doing so far? We are at midweek and we have 10 books completed out of 38-45. We need to kick it up a little. I will start hammering out some smaller books after the one I am reading."

I will definitely finish Stalin: Volume I: Paradoxes of Power, 1878-1928 and The Memory Police by the end of this week. As it is a long weekend, I will have extra reading time so pretty sure I'll be able to fit in a few more.
