35559 Hi Rebecca!
I think we are finally over the bubble — that is, with book count in the low 30s, so long as a handful more of the unfinished claims get finished (including at least 1 of my own, lol), so just read whichever you prefer to read. 🙂

Great!
I read the Bardugo’s Shadow and Bone a while ago, and I liked it but didn’t love it. I really liked her short stories “sort of” set in the same world. The little fairy tales like The Too-Clever Fox. I need to get around to reading more in the Grishaverse but I guess I will be reading Ninth House first. ;)

@Ozana, can you tell us if your Mythos book fits for “wrath” sin specification (something in it made you angry)?

Otherwise I don’t think it fits any sin except the “anything goes”, for which we won’t get any extra points besides the page count points.

Sounds good, Ozana! We will put them in as best places as we can.

As for BOMs, there is still time to do Two Can Keep a Secret if you are interested, but it’s too late for The Chestnut Man because on Monday it will be 1 month since it started.
For Ninth House, it starts on Monday, and since you read it during TT you are still eligible to answer questions (3 sets) for points! 😃

35559 Yay M!

Yay Kerri!

@Kerri, if you haven’t already, when you get a moment can you also go to the Ninth House BOM thread an confirm your DQ day?

Allison, you are a go to finish up the ladder :)

35559 Glad you are feeling better, Joanne! And don’t worry, your books this week help a lot even if it’s less that you planned. The greater concern is the people who haven’t posted anything at all.
Ozana, at least, just messaged me that she read 4 books but hasn’t been able to get to a computer, and hopes to post tonight.
@Jessi have you heard from anyone else?

I will go finish my # book - back in a tick!

35559 I will plan to do that tonight then, but am still hoping that more people will turn up in the meantime.
Allison, you already have the bulk of our books for the week, I’m sorry it’s so much on you!

35559 I have 2 chapters left in my #30, so I can finish as soon as M and Joanne finish theirs.

A library (kindle) hold for a very quick 200 pager just came in moments ago, and I can try to read that instead of the 160-page reread, to help get our numbers up... I will read more of my short story anthology first though, and hopefully in a few hours we will have heard from more folks.

Here is the current breakdown by person of what’s on the spreadsheet:
ETA: updated on Saturday evening:

Allison: 9 10 books
Alysa: 5 books (though it might only be 4)
Frankie: 1 book (though more like 0 because she did not add that book: I added it after checking her Currently Reading shelf)
Jessi: 3 books
Joanne: 2 books
Kerri: 0 1 book
M: 5 6 books
Ozana: 0 4 books
Rebecca: 1 book
Suzanne: 0
Wren: 2 books

35559 It’s listed that way, yes, but there has been some inconclusive chatter in Captains Group as to whether we are in fact allowed to read it that way (assuming anyone has a combined edition).
Jessi, how did you interpret that convo?

35559 Cross-posting sisters! 😘

35559 Also, if we do somehow end up under the minimum, the penalty is 20 points, which may not break the bank in the grand scheme.

Let’s wait til tomorrow and see what happens.
Picking up an extra 100-200 pager is also an option for more than one of us, I’m guessing, I’d we decide it’s worth doing when we’re down to the wire.
ETA: I could even rereadArtificial Condition, which is only 160 pages but is a Wrath Sin Bingo! I would rather be starting a 700+ pager, but still.

Goodnight all!

35559 Well... if we start hearing from the people who have not posted anything, then we should have enough books...
*hint hint*
I am hoping the holiday had everyone offline today and they will all appear on Saturday... *crosses fingers*

35559 Maybe we can set up some BR threads for the “favorite books” recommendations!

Got some other ideas too, but I am considering rereading one of my own:
The God in Flight. MM historical romance. One of my favorite books ever, but I haven’t read it in like 15 years.
Anyone interested?

35559 Sounds good, Allison!
Wrath points, or whatever might be worth more, so we have options. I feel like not every but NEARLY every book has something potentially hateful or wrath inducing in it!

And thanks for adding that extra In Death book. ;)

35559 @ Kerri, Suzanne, Ozana, and Frankie — how are you doing this week? Anything for the spreadsheet?
I had added something for Frankie, but dunno about the rest of you... ?

Nov 29, 2019 09:16AM

35559 Haha, since Jessi is busy I will go ahead and announce the final Mini Challenge!
Weeks 9 and 10: Vanity
Check it out and let us know if you have any questions!

Your captains would like to point out that, although the 7 points per book for the Mini is enticing and people should of course read whatever they want, there are not a ton of long books on there. There are some, but it seems the majority are under 500 pages, and our overall team strategy is still longer books for page count points (plus BOMs).
We have no chance at the “Most Mini-Challenge Points” Prize anyway, so let’s let the other teams worry about that!
[ETA: if you only or mostly tend to read books under 500 pages anyway, then please consider choosing from the Vanity Mini books list! I’m not telling people not to do Mini at all, so my apologies if that’s how it sounded. Just pointing out the page count thing!]

We’d also like to ask you all to start noting “Wrath” options as alternate reasons in the spreadsheet, for every book read for any other Sin or Mini book between now and the end of TT, just in case it starts making more sense to pivot to the “Sin Alignment” prize rather than the grand prize. We are not in the lead in Sin Alignment anymore, but it might be possible to overtake the others again if we focus on that (which we will only consider doing if it looks like Team Lust has irreparably outpaced us on overall points). 🙂

35559 Also, it doesn’t matter if you find something before or after my #30. Just let me know if it’s before #30 so I can stop reading in time.
I already have to wait for other people up thru Joanne’s #17, so it’s all the same to me.

35559 Hardy har har. 😘
Okay, go with Blue, I guess!

In other news, I went ahead and started Discworld #30, so if you’re the only one willing and able to add another something to the list to achieve a multiple of 3... please do!

35559 To me, I think it’s supposed to be [grey] light reflecting off white snow, so maybe not blue, but since I am infamously hard-assed we can see what others think. Also what other teams used it for?
