10. In these parts the darkness comes and checks up on her a few times. What do you make of those conversations - what the darkness says and Adeline's reactions? Who or what do you think Luc is? Do you think something romantic could happen between Luc and Addie?
I don't think anything romantic will happen. Luc seems even more cunning and evil than what I've read in other books.
11. Addie and Henry meet up for coffee which seems to go well. What do you think will come of this relationship? Will it last? Will it be fulfilling for the both of them?
I hope it will last. I'm just afraid that after they have built memories and a relationship for a while that suddenly Henry will forget her again.
12. Will it be significant considering Henry could utter Addie's name? Would it be possible that Henry made a deal with Luc thus enabling Addie's and Henry's relationship? Do you think they have met or will meet in the story?
I think there is something special about Henry. Something with all the apologizing people are doing.
13. If you had a lifetime to do as you pleased, what would you do? Where would you go and what would you see?
I would read a lot of books, and travel the world.

It works for task 33 - features a clown/jester.
Puck (Robin Goodfellow) is King Oberon's jester. Based on A Midsummer Night's Dream.

5. At about a fourth of the way through the book, how do you like Addie LaRue as a narrator/person?
I like her fine. I think over time she has become a little transparent of what is right and wrong.
6. Are you more interested in Addieās past or present life (or both)? Why?
Present. I'm not really a fan of alternating timelines generally. But it's usually satisfying at the end when it all comes together. It's just usually a struggle for me to get there.
7. How do you think she handled the start of her "curse"?
As best she could I guess. It must be very foreign and hard to be in that situation. Trying to learn about how the curse works at the same time as living in Paris at the bottom of the "food chain"
8. Addie seems to have serial one-night stands with the same person. Why do you think she does this, and do you have any concerns with the potential for manipulating the other party? (I am still thinking of this as a power imbalance).
I can understand her wanting to be with the same person if she likes them a lot, but if she uses knowledge learned from the past to seduce them I don't think that's such a good thing.
9. In this section, we meet Henry. What is your initial reaction to Henry and his ability to remember her?
He seems fine so far. A little sad. Excited to see more of him. I didn't realize he remembered her though.

1. Other than BOM points what attracted you to this book? The rave reviews? The cover? The blurb?
Both! I've been wanting to read this book ever since it was released and it has been silently judging me from the bookshelf.
2. Have you read any other books by V.E. Schwab/Victoria Schwab? If so, how does this book compare? If not, what do you think of the book so far?
I haven't, but they are judging me from my shelf as well, haha. I like it so far. After a little adjustment to the writing style.
3. What are your thoughts on Addie and the bargain she made?
She was desperate and didn't think of the consequences. But the dark god didn't give her any more details exactly either. She didn't know the full extent of what she was doing.
4. Obviously, selling your soul is going too far but if you were able to get a wish granted what would it be?
I have no idea. I think I'm too intimidated to even think about it.

Q11. Do you think Mort is physically changing? When it says, "The gargoyle looked up into his face and suddenly felt like a very frightened doorknocker indeed, Mort's eyes glowed like crucibles, his expression was a furnace, his voice held enough to melt iron. It didn't know what he could do, but felt that it would prefer not to find out." - it seems these may be actual physical manifestations. With the photo Mort sees soon after with the wizard Cutwell, do you think that was originally Death in the photo before a transformation?
Yes, I think Mort is changing physically, but also mentally.
Q12. What do you think about the plot point where Keli is dead, but is not? Do you think this was a clever twist of the author or do you find it a confusing jumble? How will this affect the story and will Death find out what actually happened and react?
Very confusing. Death will probably find out, or may have known all along.
Q13. There suddenly seems to be signs that Death may be playing matchmaker of sorts with Mort and his 'daughter'. Are you surprised, and what do you think will happen with the relationship between him and Ysabel?
No, no because Mort's father mentioned that this was usual for apprentices to marry the daughter of the family.
Q14. Do you think that before Mort was chosen by Death, that he was a normal boy? Do you think he must have some wizard properties buried or are his "abilities" gathered from being Death's apprentice? What do you think about Mort attracting death's attention - what is so special about him?
I think Death chose him because he wasn't afraid, and didn't seem freaked out at all by Death.
Q15. Mort seems to be getting a bit homesick after his day off, and Death is changing his tune as well. What do you think about Death's new adventures to experience some human experiences, try to understand fun and how humans behave?
As Death can not create and only copy I can understand his desire to learn more from humans and what they enjoy doing,

It works for B4 in the bingo, the jelly baby.
"Wentworth never showed this much interest in anyone who wasn't a jelly baby"
Crivens count: 27 (less than expected, tbh)

Q6 - Mort walked through the walls a few times but couldn't when he tried to get into the castle. Why do you think this happened?
Probably because he thinks too much about it or something like that.
Q7- What do you think of Ingneous Cutwell's character?
The wizard? I didn't really think anything of him. I liked the talking door though.
Q8 - The Abbot has been reincarnated 53 times. The concept of reincarnation is an interesting one. If you were to be born again what life would you choose?
Ooooo. Hm. This is an interesting question that I need way more time to think about!
Q9 - Death sent Mort to reap three souls. In light of how he performed do you think Mort was ready for the job?
Nope, not at all.
Q10 - Mort found Ysabelle's handkerchief in the library. Why is she reading other people's life?
Oh, it was Ysabelle's? I didn't understand who's the handkerchief was. I don't know why she's reading? Maybe to learn? She is to take over at some point, isn't she?

1. Mort is nothing if not determined. He refuses to give up on being a āprenticeā until the last stoke of midnight. Then at the very last second, Death arrives for him. Do you think Mort was quick to take the apprenticeship perhaps from feeling humiliated at the days events or was it something that truly intrigued him? Would you have been willing to work for Death?
I think a little bit of both. Mort seems like a guy that thinks a lot and having this apprenticeship involves a lot of big questions and things that are difficult to understand. I probably would be willing to work for death.
2. Death has a sarcastic tone during this first section. What do you think of his fawning over Mort to ensure he gets new clothes and food and Death eating with him like a regular guy? Is he up to something sinister or does he just want to make Mort comfortable?
I don't know enough about Death to know his motives. But maybe he did it to make Mort comfortable? It's probably not the easiest task to get an apprentice in his line of work.
3. Mort may be a bit gangly and lost in his own head at times, but he seems to have a lot of compassion. Upon realizing that he was talking to Death, he asked him to spare his Dad. Later he tries to intervene and warn the King that he was about to be killed and finally on that same trip he wanted to tell the Kingās daughter not to trust the Duke. What did you think of all that? Are these normal reactions to someone who is the apprentice to Death? Do you think it will continue as Mort sees more and more of Deathās duty?
It's probably normal in the beginning, but maybe Mort will understand that there is nothing to be done (at least not when they are in the middle of the situation). But as he can get days off he can walk around like a normal human and communicate with everyone. Including the new queen.
4. What is up with the constant utterance of āMortā every time someone calls our MC anything other than Mort or Mortimer after arriving at Deathās House and meeting Yasbell? Is there some significance to this or is it just rather annoying?! Lol!
Maybe Mort is used to never being called Mort and is tired of it? I understand when he does it when they call him something else, but at least one point he added his name to the end without having to...
5. Mort, surprisingly, asked Death for an afternoon off. I think our dear Mort is growing up! He explains to Death that he wants to meet people for more than a few minutes. When he arrives in his own time and finds out where he is, he asks if he is near Sto Lat. He seems to have a plan when he says he wants a very fast horse. What do you think he intends? Will it work out like he plans?
I'm guessing he's going to ward the queen about her uncle. So he's kinda interfering but in his own way. I'm excited to learn why she could see him earlier!

11. Gramma Pearl shared many wonderful legacy stories with Daunis. I loved the reference Daunis makes regarding the storm and the thunderbirds bringing loved ones from the other world to check on them. As a result, Daunis has happy memories about storms versus being afraid and she consistently refers to Gramma Pearl when deciding what to do. Do you have any advice, stories or traditions passed down from family that you often think about? Something that you would share with your legacy...if so, share if you are comfortable.
Not really. The only ones I can think about are that if the swallow flies high, that means the weather will be good. It's more like a superstitious weather forecast.
12. "The FBI is interested in learning what caused the group hallucination. I want to know if the kids are okay." Daunis obviously thinks the FBI isn't investigating for the right reasons. I observe all the time that young people have a different view on things than more experienced/older people. Who's right? What do we learn from situations such as this? Other thoughts?
Maybe the FBI want to prevent it from happening again generally, while Daunis is more caught up in what has already happened, as well as preventing it from happening again. She has more of a personal perspective because it's happening to her friends and her community, I guess?
13. Heather is clearly not liked amongst the girls at the beach party...why do you think Heather approaches Daunis about buying drugs? Do you think this has something to do with why she turns up dead, washed up at Duck Island?
Maybe she thinks Daunins will want the drugs to deal with everything that has happened because that's how she coped herself? It's difficult to say, but it is safe to say that Heather probably is involved in the whole meth ordeal.
14. In chapter 20, Jamie asks Daunis about the meaning of 'Firekeeper's Daughter'. It's her job to lift up the sun every day. What do you think about this explanation? Do you find additional meaning in this as it relates to Daunis and her role in the plot of this story?
Daunis has taken it upon herself to help her community and hopefully figure out something about the drug activity. More and more people get addicted to meth and whither away, and Daunis and the bureaus can hopefully put an end to this. Daunis want to make sure her community has a future.
15. Daunis finds Heather during her mushroom sleuthing on Duck Island. During her thinking she has an 'ah-ha' moment regarding her Uncle's journals. When she goes to look for them, she's quick to assume that they don't exist because of the connection to the FBI and the confidentiality required...do you think she's right...thoughts?
She's probably right that at least they don't exist in the boxes she's looking in. But they might exist somewhere else. Maybe it's written in code or hidden in plain sight (for example in some of the journals marked with an earlier date).Maybe the FBI took them, maybe he hid them somewhere else. It is also possible that he never wrote anything at all. It's difficult to say.
