IMO the all voluntary military is the reason our military is so great. Once you start making folks join against their will you have a significant drop in moral. Attitude is contagious. There is no better example of this then Veit Nam. Mandatory military service might work in other countries but this is a nation of freedom. It just goes against our values as a nation. I think as Americans when you are told something is mandatory you automatically feel the urge to resist it. no matter if it is good or not. taxes, excesses, stop smoking, don't eat fast food, don't swim after you eat for 30 min. you get the idea.
I am also of the opinion that if you are 18, drive a car, join the armed forces, married go away from home to college then you should be able to drink. I believe the reason we see so much binge drinking in youth is because it is forbidden. I have spent time in Europe, drinking is no big deal there so it is not seen as a tool of rebellion. The pubs are full of teens. The difference, if that were to happen here there would be brawls in the bars. It would take a generation or two to breed the rebellion out of alcohol.

Just hang a trash bag from a tree in your yard, poke a few holes in one corner, secure it with a rubber band, fill with water, get your hygiene gear, remove rubber band, BAM shower with no scum. Well perhaps that creepy neighbor qualifies as scum. But you don't have to clean him promise.

Why it takes so long to fix things around the house... Priorities priorities priorities, I have a honey do list, When I come home I will accomplish 3 projects MAX. Why? Because my wife has this ability to break and destroy things that would make a seven year old boy proud. honestly I get tired of fixing the towel rack that she has somehow managed to tear off the wall on average 3 times a year since I have known her. Or the hole in the wall where she managed to put the coat rack through the wall, or last winter when she power slid up the driveway and right over our above ground heating oil tank (yeah that ws fun 1,200 bucks of fuel streaming of into the snow) Or when I had to crawl in the dishwasher because she put a bread pan in there with bread still in the pan. ( She had attempted to make bread, burn the shit out of it, until it was a solid charred brick of carbs, put in the dish washer to "soften" in up)
The list goes on and on. In the end I fix whatever she breaks, burns, trashes, because it is what I am here for. My question is, some of the things she breaks/does just don't make since... Does she do these things on purpose? Just to make sure I am still willing to "fix" things for her?

Xysea, Palin passed state legislation giving "civil liberties" to gay people in Alaska. Granted it is not a "gay marriage" but they have protection under the law like you me and everyone else. Their rights are recognized, they receive health benefits for their partners as well. I have said it a hundred times She does not inject her personal views in legislation. She does what politicians are suppose to do. The will of their constituents. I know, it is a freaky idea, politicians doing what the people elected them to do but there it is.

Happy birthday Charissa!

fiesty hair good news
Burn after reading comes out friday, thats good no?

Yeah, I dig them. There worth the bone shivering cold.

not to make a joke in a serious conversation but... Blind obedience and sex... I see nothing wrong with that ;)
Can you fit two knuckles up there?

I'm envious, Isaiah! I was suppose to attend a lecture with Machio Kaku, a few years ago. Sadly I missed it because of a delayed flight to Chicago.
My wife found out he was doing a speech and Q&A, in Chicago. Until I knew that, I was going to stay home, and not do the whole happy extended family thing. I was had man, HAD!

Good news... good news... good news, I think that might be an oxymoron but I'll give it a stab...
I saw the northern lights last night, not the uber cool multi-colored ones, but the 30 shades of green ones. pretty cool.

Well that is where we part ways. I think BO will belly up the economy. Have you been watching Bill O'rieley? I normally don't watch his show but he has been interviewing BO. Pretty good, It feels rushed but...

To me it will become interesting when they start the counter flow (collisions) Until that happens it is just a really big electromagnet. It IS pretty sweet though. I think they should learn allot. Great just what I need more nerd books to read.

I will give you that, I DO wish she talked normally. He Public speaking voice is pretty tumorous.

RA! The Bears suck every year... But they spanked Manning something fierce on Sunday. Manning looks bad this year, I really don't think he should be playing, he is too young to throw his career away playing with an injured knee.
Old school never give up Bears fan Woot!

I hate pedophiles. I am no fan of children, but that is mainly because by the time I know them they are already fucked up... So I do tend to be pretty frosty when dealing with child abusers. It's something constructive to do with my universal hate.

I like Science :D

7) Give-Aways – Big Ones. Governor Palin triggered legislation to give virtually all Alaskans a “surplus” check of $1,200 per person this fall, and to suspend the state’s motor fuel taxes entirely (Executive Proclamation). Conservationists and others urged her administration to implement and provide, instead, programmatic and individual funding for energy efficiency and energy conservation measures, which would give short- and long-term energy cost-relief, as well as reduce Alaskan’s carbon footprint. She did not do so.
Charissa: I love you girl, but this is pretty misleading. We already have state funded "energy audits" in Alaska. Someone will come out to your house audit the structures and reimbursed the property owner up to 10k for improvments. Couple that with the tax write offs one gains from putting money into your home, and you have a pretty juicy reason to reduce your "carbon foot print".
After the work is completed the auditor will return. If the home didn't gain 5 star rating then the auditors will investigate why. If the owner cut corners or didn't follow the audits order then they are responsible to pay back the 10k.

Charissa said: 5) Clean Water – Not. Governor Palin approved a “Clean Water Act” permit that allows oil and gas corporations to virtually triple the amount of toxic pollution they emit into Cook Inlet fisheries each year. Furthermore, she has not reversed the damage that the Murkowski Administration did to Alaska’s water quality laws associated with expanding dilution based mixing zones and harming the Coastal Zone Management Program. Among other positions, she did not support legislation that would have banned mixing zones in important fish habitat. She also “personally” and questionably opposed the Clean Water Initiative, Proposition 4 (KTUU 8/22/08), with numerous full page ads, contributing to its defeat.
Prop 4 was a joke. The facts are it was a piece of legislation produced by an outside 3rd party. There are already laws governing to the affect of the said purpose for prop 4. What Prop 4 would have accomplished is shutting down every mine in the state. We already have the strictest mining laws in the states, Prop 4 would make it impossible to have a legally functioning mine.
I read allot of posts about the rebate palin issued this year... well not yet, the checks go out Sept.12. It is a 1,200 dollar check and is not a tax rebate. It is an energy rebate. As Alaskans many of us wonder why we pay more (allot more) for gas heating oil, natural gas, and fuel for our cars/trucks. We currently are sitting at 4.48/gl for regular unleaded, propane/natural gas is bloated as well. Heating oil is almost 5.00/gl. I have a 5 star house and yet I spent close to 5k last winter heating my home (that is with the use of a high efficiency wood burning stove. My home is 1,200 sqft not exactly a mansion is it)... what did you pay to warm your families slippers last winter?
The main thing to remember is according to the Alaska state constitution all resources taken from Alaska belong to Alaska (residence).
Our state had a good year, allot of the added money went right into the school system. Honestly that was a waste of money, the school system here is bloated and non-effective. It's the educators not the payroll. I have encountered many teachers here that really make me scratch my head. Not because what they are saying is deep... but because if what they said was any more retarded I would suspect they plaid with coloring books all day, then you learn the teach kids.
Polar BEARS! (the bears kicked he colts ass!Woot!) It was a good move t keep the polar bears off the list, they are not endangered. It's that simple. They can take all the pictures they want of polar bears swimming. News flash: it is what they do. They swim hundreds of miles week. That is their habitat. The question I have is this... More often then not when an animal doesn't have enough to eat their populations usually fall right? Why isn't that translating with the polar bears? They have shifted and they have moved but their numbers are the same. They are not expressing growth but they are not in decline.
Palin has stopped listening to the Marine biologist because they were caught red handed passing off fake stats and flawed reports twice. They blew their own credibility out of the water. Many of their reports where in direct contrast with game managements reports on numbers and location
Predator control: Due to past game management policies there is an un-natural unbalanced in the state, predator populations are through the roof. Non-predator populations are high but an a couple of years there will be a huge deficit. I think all know I am an animal lover and I don't like this policy but I understand the need for it. 10 years ago there was a policy that messed things up, we need to right it. Something to keep in mind is that it isn't a permanent policy. It is a fix.
Wow, I was not planning on going on like this sorry.

Well it's good you like both RA because I think McCains taking it ;) I have nothing to back that up, it is way too soon to start with that kind of talk... But you keep payig people off with 5 notes then were in good shape.

The refineries could be up and running at a level of capacity in couple of years as well, full capacity within 6 years.
Getting the stuff out of the ground is the easy part.
