3113 Don’t get me wrong, Jackie. I am totally for the future. But the future is still 10 years out minimum. Oil buys time. I think I have said in other threads here that I would really like to see a nationwide bullet train system put together.

To me, after much research I have hedged my bets with hydrogen fuel cells. It is the only REAL long term (transportation) energy source that can be mainstream coast to coast. For electricity I think we should do everything, we will need to use nuclear (even though I don’t like it, the waste question bothers me) and put everything else on the table too.

3113 Personally, Charissa, I am seeking solid information, The first 5 days of Palin being out of the gate was messy, a big blunder IMO. I want to see a return to the issues were all facing and I think this is where this conversation has turned. I would rather have this conversation with people I know, and see as friends then with a stranger.
1) I feel like I have some understanding of the person I am talking to (Jackie) I know her to a certain capacity, so I feel she is giving information she feels is accurate, and honest.
2) Debate is a good way to make sure you are correct in how you feel about your posstions and to attempt to see things from many angles. So far I still side with the conservatives; I am by no means cemented to the rights cause. I just think they make better arguments.

Again as an insider Jackie I have to disagree with your assessment that it would take years (5 to 10) to bring new oil sources to market. There is already an existing infrastructure. Anwar could be producing marketable oil inside of 2 years, at capacity at 4. That is a fact. As it stands Alaska provides 1/3 of the oil to everything west of the Mississippi. And were not even running at capacity. Over half of the wells on the slope are running at reduced capacity because they are not allowed to cap them to let them “rest” So the big “3” are trying to rest them wail still pumping them. The idea is long and slow verse fast stop long wait then fast again.

3113 <I disagree. I'd love to see healthcare run for the benefit of the patients, not to make money for the shareholders.>>

I know we disagree on this point Jackie. But the money made by these companies pays for research, who is going to pick up the tab on that if the government takes it over? Do you think the government will be able to afford footing the bill for treatment and research? Privet enterprise is a proven method for fast development of new technologies.

<< What I DO mind is the snipes at Obama "parting the waters", and the mocking of his job as a community organizer. I believe that Republicans are very proud of their communities, and their activities organizing them, so why are they belittling Obama for doing something worthwhile?>>

It was mentioned because that is what his campaign stated as a reason of how he was more qualified the Palin… What I don’t understand is why is BO joined in battle against Palin. Shouldn’t he be focusing on McCain? The way I see it, McCain has been freed from the resistance of campaigning while Obama’s campaign is spinning its wheels in the mud trying to tear down Palin.

3113 I don’t think she was any of that, in fact I thought she was pretty tame by comparison. This is a campaign right? They are on opposing side right? I think she properly portrayed the sentiments of those she plans on leading. What you called nasty and belittling, I call pointing out a simple fact

What you call scornful and inaccurate, I call spot on.

The government has become bigger under the Bush administration. But it was a necessary change. Are you implying that homeland security isn’t needed? Socialized medicine will require a huge bureaucracy to run it. That is big government. And as per the opinion of half of the country an un-necessary big government; as we live in a free market designed for free enterprise. I think our healthcare system needs reforms, but to put it in the hands of the government is out of line.

I too will stop here, because I am sure there are those that can articulate this exponentially better then I can, also I am not sure if I am coming off hostile. I don’t want to be. I like this discussion and would like to keep it civil.

3113 That does follow the laws of thermodynamics NB + Charissa. Energy does not disappear, you can not get energy from nowhere (this is why there will NEVER be a perpetual motion machine) When we or the universe expends energy were really just altering the state that the energy is in.

This is the grounds for perrelel universe and string theories. Einstein’s theory doesn't adequately explain things once you break it down to the quantum level.

If we have multiple universes in which energy can transfer back and forth it would really explain allot of unknowns. Some Scientist think this is great, some think were cheating. I think it is great because time and time again we find that nature follows the path of the lest resistance. If energy can pass between “universes” that would be a pretty simple process and it would abide by the laws of thermodynamics.

3113 I suppose if one were able to produce such a machine that the timer would be pretty reliable... I would hope.
3113 That is pretty deep Donna... practical too (food storage) What if your cat or dog, hurricane whatever broke the timer, 20,000 years later the machine fails you wake up and you're the only one left.

It could be cool as long as there were still accessible remains of humanity. Imagine how much reading you could get done!

3113 I’m not 100% on this but I believe there is a black hole in the center (near center) of every galaxy. A galaxy is basically a big solar system right. The planets form because the sun draws the mass in. Well the black holes at the near center do the same thing, just on a much larger scale.

I will admit that for the last year or so I have been reading allot about Quantum mechanics and deep theory based physics books, much of which I struggle to understand the concept, so I might be mixing puddles here… Damn it Jim I’m a Technician not physicist!

Lori: I do totally agree that the universe is a crazy place, and the mechanics of it are fascinating. I just wish I were smart enough to get all of it.

3113 I guess that is where the divide is RA. I respect your point of view on this, and you gave her a fair shake.

Obama wants to get on with the world, I don’t really care what Europe or anyone else for that matter thinks of my country. Even if I did want them sucking on my toes I don’t think BO is the guy that could pull it off. Charisma and teleprompter speeches are not a tactic that is going to work behind closed doors. He is an empty suit. Real nice and charismatic, sure, but an empty suit none the less.

Palin wants to fix Washington. She is just the person to do it. Mark my words. If Palin goes to Washington the senate and the house are going to start losing seats like dropping flies. From both sides of the isle.

3113 Talking to a camera and convincing some Washington blowhard are two very different things Lori. So a good option IMO would be to stop electing the same group over and over again. It's time for new blood, blood that actually represents the country, not a party.

3113 I agree Jackie, and KD. There is allot of dirty laundry hanging in the air right now. I have been saying for months now that what we really need is a Washington purge, out with the old fortified crowd and in with the new moderate crowed. Middle America is not being represented anymore. I think we are well over due for a return to a government FOR the people, not in spite of them.

3113 Don’t miss read me Jackie, I am pro-choice. What I am saying is Obama is far left, so even when he makes a reach for the center, allot of conservatives are going to think his compromise is still too far left. That was the point I was trying to make.

And I was just pointing out what WILL happen if a compromise happens with the abortion issue. IMO women have the right to choose right now, we should leave well enough alone. Dems should block any attempt to further restrictions on abortions at the federal level… even though I DO agree that late term abortions are horrid I think if that compromise is made the activist WILL mobilize

McCain&Palin (278 new)
Sep 03, 2008 02:06PM

3113 His ideas are good in your view Jackie. Not in mine. The problem is he is so far left, that allot of his "reaching” will be for naught. Even if he makes compromises on an issue he will still be far left of where the majority conservatives will be willing to go. I don't think he has the stroke to pull off what he is selling, and I'm kind of relieved that he doesn't.

If he was a moderate leaning left, as McCain is a moderate leaning right then I think things might be different. Obama is pretty much at the end of the spectrum.

I do agree on his restriction of late term abortions though. I think that is a good starting place for change.

A serious draw back (IMO) that compromise will give hard core Pro-Life advocates fuel and ammunition. Because by saying late term abortions are bad, you are giving their argument points. Then you have to take a position on when it ceases to be bad. Are we starting to see how compromise can be a slippery slope? Am I articulating this clearly?

3113 I like it! Pay for play, submit your labels now!
3113 Pressed jogging suits... really? This news has caused me to devise a new invention.

A people labeler: Works like a child’s toy, and launches quarter sized rubber stamps. Different stamps for different tramps. When you see someone acting like a jack-ass; you flip the dial to the jackass label, line the laser pointer up on their forehead, squeeze trigger. The rubber stamp closes the distance between you and said jackass at a rate of 30 feet per/sec. Not only do they feel the sting of their stupidity, but others are warned of the personality of people they are approaching in public.

Just imagine it… you’re walking down the street, you see someone that just doesn’t “seem” right. As you get closer you spot a strange discoloration on their head. Before to long you see the hindquarters of a donkey. Yep, you now have time to make your way to the other side of the street. Crisis diverted you can now concentrate on finding the nearest hotdog vender.

3113 I see nothing wrong with that. Game on!
3113 And those nifty shoes, with the wheels on them so you can skate around when walking with mechanical help is just too draining.
