3113 I can not believe there are people hear still playing politics. Do you really not understand the gravity of this? I hope nobody here was planning on retiring in the near future. By Friday the market will be worthless unless they close the market. This is more then slinging mud in the eye of some fat cat. This credit is payroll, inventory, and employee benefits. Shame on everyone here trying to make this a finger pointing competition. The simple truth is the republicans enabled the democrats to do this. They are both guilty, and they should all be booted from office. Barney frank and Dodd need to go to jail. I mean that.

Friday's Debate (23 new)

3113 Donna, most of what you have stated, are things that would improve the quality of life for the average Iranian. I think that would be counter productive, if we aim to keep military action off the table. The idea I have is to make the Iranian people so upset and hostile toward their own government that they do the leg work for them selves.

Once a strong grass roots anti regime movement has started I think it would be in our interest to support them. With the caution being that we need to make sure those that are seeking to take control are not the same fanatics with different names.
The main problem I have with my own idea is; it is too slow. I question weather there is enough time to mark, wail these changes are happening. I don’t believe there is time. As much as I do not want Israel or the U.S. to start military strikes in Iran, I have to concede that there is a great possibility that a military strike will be necessary within the next 5 years; to disable their nuclear capabilities, not force a change in leadership.

Then again, once you make the call to drop a bomb, it would probably be one “woke up on the wrong side of the bed” away from full military incursion.

3113 Personal injury lawyer... and only two accidents... Perhaps it would be justice if it were two accidents per/week.

Completely joking of course.

There would be justice if you were disfigured in one of them... Maybe a slight amputation… bruised kidney, ruptured disk.
Sorry I think I am in the wrong club for this kind of welcome. But I am going to post it anyway, because that’s just the kind of guy I am. Have a good one.

3113 I would argue the point that Imadinnerjacket is human. Sure he was born and shares allot of the same features, but that is pretty much where it ends. I am still waiting to hear what concessions anyone here would be willing to make to “help” bring a peaceful outcome. I don’t see any positive outcome, in dealing with the current Iranian leadership.

Keep the pressure on and sooner or later they will collapse. I don’t think the Iranian people are behind their government’s current policies. With economic pressure; the Iranian government can’t continue their populous pay off with cheap gas. Truth is they are breaking the bank to covering the difference. Once the money is gone and they are no longer able to pay for their refined fuels, perhaps the people will stand and demand an end to the current path.

3113 Two days ago, I started to get the sniffles. This kind of pissed me off; because I am still not 100% from the last time I was ill. At first I just assumed I was having “sympathy” pains because so many of my goodreads friends have been under the weather recently. Backs and hacks; it’s going around.

I’m thinking that some diabolical bastard has devised a way to commute the crud via the interwebz. This is startling, to me. With this kind of technology one could infect the smartest people in the country in a few hours… what is worse is that nobody would notice because they will all assume we are just doing what we normally do… sit on goodreads all day. By the time they realize something is amiss it will be too late, and “their” plan will be coming to a head. Damn rat bastards. I blame Hugo Chaves.

Ok So I don’t know what is going on around here; but I do know that more of us are broken/under the weather then normal. Is this some uber nasty nano biological weapon attack? List what has got you down and why/where you think it happened.

P.S. The more paranoid story you can conjure up the better.

Friday's Debate (23 new)

3113 I am interested in that as well Cyril.

Lori: I think one way Obama can “reach” toward conservatives and republicans is by dropping the tax issue. A low tax on corporations is a fundamental part of a free market. Raising them will always be a tough sell, no matter who is running. I would not be apposed to closing loop holes for “big” business, but I don’t want him meddling with small biz. Small businesses are too fragile and are already fighting tooth and nail against the big boys. Leave them out of it.

3113 <<<<<<<<>>>>>>>

What can we possibly have to talk about with Iran? What could our common ground be? There is none. Two totally different cultures valuing totally different principles. I’m sorry Donna; I am in total disagreement with you on this issue. This form of diplomacy may kind of work in Europe, but it doesn’t have an ice cubes chance in hell for the Middle East. They are incapable of utilizing diplomacy with them selves, but a culture that emulates Satan in their eyes is going to bring parties together so the world can go on. The only thing respected in the ME is un-deniable power. Not political power but the power that keeps you alive, or puts you in a hole. It is a cold reality. Also there is the assumption that they WANT a peaceful outcome.

Sorry I was intending on commenting about the debate…

Over all I think it was a tie. I think McCain nailed it on policy, and Obama nailed it on appearances (charisma).

I think in the start they were both nervous a little. Not sure of what tone the other candidate was going to use and what not. But after things got rolling and they left behind the finance topic (with all its unknown elements) I think they did alright. Obama held his own. I wouldn’t say he “won”, because I don’t think he did. But McCain didn’t win either.

My advice to both

McCain: Everyone in the country knows about your past. You don’t need to give me a big plate of it every time you are in the spot light followed up with little reminder spoonfuls throughout the appearance. Your policies are sound; you have a clear vision, sell them.

Obama: I understand there is a fundamental difference between you and McCain. I understand you have the support of your party. It is not enough to take the white house. If you really want it, you are going to actually have to reach across the isle and show conservatives, and republicans that you are not the demon we perceive you to be.

3113 Whats your dirt doing in my hole boy

He had a good life, and a great career. He also helped out with allot of charities. It's a shame that all the good ones pass on, and were left with the likes of Jason Biggs... that American pie crap fest.

3113 One of my favorite authors (Peter F Hamilton) is known for composing epic scale books, spanning the universe at large, with enough characters to populate Alaska. Aside from Reality Dysfunction most of his series are two books. But the next series he releases is from the same universe but not directly related. (You don't have to read the other series to know what is going on in the "stand alone") However I will say I was really disappointed by his book, Misspent youth. I didn't care for it and I don't think I will ever recommend it to anyone. It did not display a single Hamilton trait. The Characters were flat and the story was predictable. Two things that I never expected to see in one of his books.
Sep 26, 2008 10:57PM

3113 Eh, that is probably why I refuse to read it. I like long epic tales but I do not like never ending tales. Epic is fine if there is a goal in the authors mind. Too many good series have gone down the crapper because the author doesn't end it.

I understand that sometimes this is the publisher pushing them to draw it out, but sometimes you just have to say, this is my art and I'm not going to sell my soul to you anymore.
Sep 26, 2008 10:24PM

3113 Eh, Dune. That is actually one of the few Sci-Fi series that I refuse to read. I don't even know why, I just can not bring myself to crack the spine. I have like 3 books of the series just sitting on my shelf... looking all lonely and dusty. Maybe someday.
