True. It's frustrating when every other genre readers look down on us romance novel aficionados.
29443 Susan wrote: "I love well written erotic romance. If people want to call it porn, fine, but it disrespects some excellent writers."

It doesn't even have to be erotic to be called porn. Any romance book is considered porn. That's part of the problem.

I'm so hesitant to get rid of books just because of that remorse I have gotten in the past. Now I only give them away if it's an extra copy and I know I don't want to keep it for sure.
29443 I admit I have a button when I hear romance referred to as lady porn. I think it's because the genre gets so little respect amongst the various types of books. Almost to the point that a very well-written romance novel isn't even considered a romance anymore, that it's elevated to literature.

29443 Do you wish there was more oddball, quirky romance stories? I think that the huge explosion of the erotica/BDSM genres have lead to stories that push the envelope content and sexuality-wise, but what about stories that are a little different, with characters that aren't your typical ripped billionaire and cute girl next door heroine?

Have you found some unique stories that you'd recommend?

Please post a link to the books if at all possible.

29443 Annabelle, I definitely want to be moved by my reading. I like drama and excitement, books that get my blood flowing. Can't stand boring books!

I haven't been able to get ahold of any of her Judy Cuevas books, unfortunately. I hope her back gets better. Hate to think of her suffering that way.
29443 With all due respect, Barbara. I don't think of romance novels as porn. Porn has no redeeming value, whereas, romance novels do.

While there are very sexual romance novels, there are plenty that have no sex at all. That doesn't fit the definition of porn.

LOL! I think the pub department could at least coordinate with the editor/writer and make sure the cover matches the characters, at least basically.

Tami Hoag is a ton better now than at Loveswept, FYI."

Gosh, I really don't need to add more books to my mountainous to read list, but I appreciate the recommendations.

29443 I haven't read Tami Hoag since her Loveswept days. I get your point though!

29443 I feel that way about the GhostWalkers by Feehan audiobook narrator. He's terrible.
29443 Susan wrote: "Anything I find in the Romance or Romantic Suspense section is pure escapism for me, and needs a happy ending. For sad, I'll read Life of Pi."

I totally agree. I think you can have a well-plotted book that makes sense and still a happy ending. I don't mind a bit of angst along the way and I like when the characters and me have to work for a happy ending. I don't like when the author jerks the rug off from under my feet at the end and cheats me of the happy ending the characters deserve.
