April DHASG Challenge

Introduction: April is here! It's officially Spring, and with Spring comes warmer days, rain and pretty green buds on the trees, green grass, and fresh flower blooms. Let's see what books bloom in our to be read piles this month!

Rules:

1. Any DHASG member may participate. You can join at any time during the month.
2. Books must be read between March 1st and March 31st.
3. A book may only be used once in the challenge.
4. Post Your Final Stats or Link to Your Completed Post.
5. Happy Reading!

Levels:

1. It's Raining Books: Read 9-12 books.
2. Books are Blooming: Read 5-8 books.
3. Book Bouquet: Read 3-4 books.

Categories:

1. You're No April Fool!: We're all savvy book readers. Pick a guaranteed read out of your pile. In order to count for this part of the challenge, you need to rate it at least four stars.

2. Read a Road Map: Since Read a Road Map Week falls in this month, read a book that involves characters taking a road trip (they drive or use an automobile or other road vehicle for the journey--flying or sailing doesn't count).

3. Guitar Hero: Since April is International Guitar Month, read a book where a character plays the guitar, either professionally or as a hobby.

4. Children's Book Day: For this international hobby on April 2nd, read a children's book (books suitable for ages 15 or under).

5. Don't Go To Work Unless It's Fun!: April 3rd is a day that you really want to honor in ways that won't involve getting fired. How about you read a book where the lead character has a unique, fun, exciting, or interesting job?

6. Tweed Day: What does this fabric bring to mind for you? Well, April 3rd celebrates this warm, thick, wool, sturdy fabric that originated in Scotland. I think of antiquated British professors. How about you? You decide how to celebrate tweed (and let us know in parentheses)!

7. School Librarian Day: This wonderful crusaders and heroes definitely need a day to be celebrated, and April 4th is that day. Read a book with a prominent character (even secondary) who is a librarian, preferably at a school.

8. Lying is Bad!: April 4th is Tell a Lie Day, but I don't recommend lying. How about reading a book where a lie is a prominent aspect of the story line. If you can find a book with Lie in the title, that is awesome! You could even use a book where a character's name is "Leslie" or "Ashlie" (spelled this way).

9. Easter Sunday: Falling on April 5th this year, it celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. You can use a book that somehow touches on the theme of resurrection and death being defeated.

10.All is Ours!: Yes, this is a holiday on April 8th. You can pick how you represent this day in your reading. Let us know what you decide in parentheses.

11.Take Time to Laugh: April 11th is International Moment of Laughter Day. Commemorate it by reading a book that makes you genuinely laugh as you read it.

12.Scrabble Day: On April 13th, we give a nod to this game invented in 1938 by Alfred Mosher Butts. Use a book that has a unique word in its title for this part of the challenge.

29443 I see your point, Goge. I think Dean is set up to be the conflicted brother who seems like the bad brother but is in some ways the more self-sacrificing one. I love that Dean is all in. He'd do anything and has done anything for Sam.
29443 Hi Jais. If you want to promote your list, you should say what kind of list it is. Since this is theme -related, I'll put this in the theme folder. I moved it to that folder. Thanks. I also modified the title so people would know what you are aiming at.

29443 Hi, Rachel Anne. I am also a fan of this show. I do have to admit I am a few seasons behind. I love Dean and Sam. Their relationship as brothers is the heart of the show. I also really like Castiel.

29443 I just finished Prison of Hope. This is an awesome UF series with plenty of action. The lead, Nate is definitely a dangerous hero! I recommend this series if you like your UF with lots of buttkicking.
Mar 20, 2015 05:20PM

29443 I've read the first book in that series. I liked it. I just haven't gotten around to reading other books. I am so behind on all these good series!
Mar 17, 2015 01:22PM

29443 Outlander is very good. I love the chasting choices. Sam Heughan is perfect for Jamie. That show will definitely have you loving Highlanders!
