26986 This is a place to review and discuss The Hunger Games, with as many as you want, so if you haven't read the book yet, beware of the spoilers.

26986 It looks like Hunger Game and Twilight won the poll. So, I'm going to make discussion boards for the two books for everyone to talk about the books as they will be the group reads for this month.

26986 It seems I'm the only one here that finds music an inspiration, which is fine...I just wanted to find out if other people were inspired by music.
Allison- I couldn't do math with music on when I was in school.

26986 I made the poll. Sorry I haven't been on much lately btw, but my internet is really sucky and I've been watching a friend's kid because he has the chicken pox.

26986 Its the third book in a trilogy, yes I think its good, but if you want to read it, start with the first book in the series. Just look up John Twelve Hawks, he hasn't written anything yet besides this trilogy and honestly may never write with that pen name ever again...a lot of people think he is probably a mainstream author that wrote under a different pen name so that they can explore a new genre. But anyhow, the trilogy is a big brother is watching you/ scifi/fantasy book.

26986 That was me until high school too, about the only things I did were read and write and homework. But then in high school, school work got harder and I gained some friends, joined sports, worked in the drama department, I was really busy in high school.

26986 I think we need to create a poll. Give it say two days after it is announced and then use that to decide which books to read.

26986 I finished running with scissors, that was a crazy book. Now I wish I had its sequel, Dry. But now I'm reading The Golden City by John Twelve Hawks. It was a birthday present.

26986 I know that I read 100 books in one month in 4th grade for a fundraiser. The majority of them were at least 200 pages, but I read a few books to my younger brother too.

26986 I do agree that JKR handles the romance in her books very well, she puts the relationships in there without it having to be the main plot in the book.

26986 I have written a few songs in the past but I never was able to write the music that went along with it, so I decided to stop writing song lyrics unless a time came that I knew someone who could put the music to the lyrics.

As for how music inspires me, there are a lot of ways it inspires me. I like to listen to music while I write so that I don't just hear thoughts running through my head. The music doesn't even have to have words to it, I've listened to classical and jazz music and found that it helped me write better because there was sound, but no words, so I could still hear my thoughts. In general, I like to listen to softer music when I write- if I were to listen to heavy metal or rap while I wrote, I think I'd end up with half the lyrics of the songs in my story...loud music just over powers my thoughts for some reason.

26986 What music inspires you to write or do you play in the background while you are writing? Does anyone write song lyrics? If so, what genre of music would they fall into?

Use this topic to talk about anything music-wise that influences your writing to any degree.

26986 I write stories that are mainly character driven. Most of the main characters are teenagers, or at least start out that way at the beginning of my stories, although some of them span over a long course of time so they may be in their early twenties by the time they are finished. I write romance into a lot of my stories, but they definetely aren't romance novels...they are just a part of the bigger story. I try to pack action into my stories as well, but some of my stories are about inward struggles so there isn't as much action in those stories.
I used to write a lot of poetry, but I don't think most of it was very good, it was really driven by depression and since I'm not depressed anymore, I rarely have any ideas for poetry.
