i imagine that The Perfect Reminder will be more entertaining, due to knowing one of band and familiar with places likely to be mentioned.

often desribed as 'king tubby meets james brown at the gates of hell', 'y' has been subject to a good dubbing by dennis bovell, rendering it more 'blackbeard meets the sonic rebels at the 7th level of hell'. quite brilliant. i now have 4 versions of 'y' (i quite like it) - 'y', live, alt versions and now in dub. y not?

they've always been my favourites.

........a very enjoyable read about a genuine groundbreaker in music and the arts, but it all runs too smoothly, everything falling into place as if meticulously planned. no mentions of the beatings he gave cosey, or of other questionable things he's known to have done.

looking at all the 4/5 star reviews given to The Young Team, and, 20% in to the book, i'm not seeing it yet. the vernacular is no issue, just a bunch of violent events one after the other. i'm guessing that some kind of redemption might be ahead for 'azzy' williams, and i'll crawl towards it, but 's feeling basic so far.

2 of my favourite albums, the first a barbed groundbreaker, the 2nd a huge funky jagged delicious lump, these have been subject to remastering under the supervision of jon king (singer), andy gill (guitar), having passed last year as (probably) one of the first celebrity covid deaths, virtually perfect records (for me)

this is very good in a charles aznavour kinda way.

it is a very good review, and of interest. y'know, mibbe part of the reason for their failure to hit the heights is that they're all tremendously unassuming guys. at davy's stag night i was surrounded by trashcans and never even knew it. like getting blood out of a stone to get davy to tell you things he's done...'oh, aye, been there/played there/met him/met them/they supported us/we supported them, etc. once had a full half hour conversation about the music and books of kinky friedman with him, before he mentioned...'aye, he's a nice guy, met him at SXSW'

first time in a long while, jnr and i attended an actual cinema showing of 'dune' (£10.18 for 2 ice blasts? ffs!). it's a spectacle. far longer than lynch's version, but only covering half the ground. thoroughly guid! going to have a look at lynch's take in the next couple of days by way of comparing notes, and not to see sting in golden hot pants!

.......and, my bro in law was kind enough to present me a copy of the trashcan sinatras remastered 2nd album (he's the bassie on it), which is a sparkling example of scottish indie pop, and also a copy of the elaborate book about the story of the album,
