222868 Diane, If we all really look, I'm sure that we fall into that category too.

222868 Re: The Book of the Month club ad, It was just meh for me. The only thing that I did like was the look of horror on the young girl's face when she asked her Grandmother if she still got it and she said that she did. That was the only laugh for me, otherwise it was bland. I get their strategy, and hey they got us talking about it, didn't they?

I started Eight Simple Rules for Dating a Dragon. Eight Simple Rules for Dating a Dragon (The Embraced, #3) by Kerrelyn Sparks It turns out that I did read the first book, How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days. How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days (The Embraced, #1) by Kerrelyn Sparks So far it is actually keeping my attention. These are more like a fairy tale, light and sweet, with bad characters versus the good guys.

222868 Holly... That must have been some really bad ride home. I hope that you feel better soon. Was that the start of your retirement? Maybe you should re-think that? So far it's a bummer. Just teasing you!! Congrats if you are.

Except for short stories, I don't think that I have ever read anything by Kerrelyn Sparks. I know that she wrote the Love at Stake series, but I never got around to reading them. Well, I hope that it's a good book.

222868 My comfort reads are usually anything with humor in it. Historical reads, (hopefully with some well written humor or innuendo), are also a relaxing way to unwind from a particularly dark UF. Don't get me wrong, I like dark but sometimes you need a respite.

I couldn't begin to calculate my bought vs. read ratios in both kindle editions and audible ones. I also have my fair share of free books that I have received at the RT's that I have attended that remain unread. When I go there I try to maintain a bit of restraint and pick up books that are particularly interesting to me, not ones that I will grab because they are there. Plus, I have to either ship them home or claim them as a second piece of luggage, so that is a good deterrent. Sometimes things will languish in my TBR because I bought a third or fourth book in a series and I haven't read but the first book or two.
I know, my name is Vanessa and I have an addiction problem, I read and buy books!! :-)

Doug, I had to google rain lamps. I never knew that they were called that. I only recall one at a Greek friends' house and at someone else's house. I didn't realize that they were actual oil. They must have been popular back in the 60's because that's about when I saw them. They're kind of cool. You should post a picture of yours. Are they inside or outside lamps? The only lamps that I remember are lava lamps. LOL!!

Edited for clarity

222868 LAB... I don't know how netgalley
picks their offerings. Unless it's a more obscure author, I don't get much of what I request either.

All that I have to say is if you thought Acheron was bad, you do not want to read Styxx's book. it has way more trauma and a kind of reconning at the end.

I hate to post on my phone, the app is unappealing.

222868 Doug I know that you like "Vengeance" Westerns, "Godless" on Netflix is excellent. Godless is a Netflix production and just 7 episodes. Be prepared to watch them one right after another. Jeff Daniels is such a good bad guy, loved him.

222868 Did anyone post that the latest installment of Sweep of the Blade is up? (I love that title).

222868 Oh and I forgot Assail's cousins, and Sola's Grandmother, OK I'm kidding on the last one. Trez might be getting his HEA in the next book, who knows. But that's about it, I think, unless Mhurder and the new dark entity happen to fall in love too. LOL!

222868 As to the second part of your question, she seems to be running out of main characters. She has what, one or two more recruits, Luchas, Marissa's brother the doctor, the pre-trans girl, and a couple of bad guys. So unless she has decided to throw more of Xcor's guys into the mix then she is running out of characters. I thought that she once said that she had a clear plan, but I wonder if that's all thrown away with the continued popularity. Look, all of us here have forked over the big bucks for her books for all of these years. I think that this series is the most expensive that I read. I usually only listen to the more expensive books, but between this and the Jane Yellowrock series, I have their voices in my head and they don't match the ones that the narrators portray.

222868 Lisa... This is the info on the short story.

"The last place Ivie expects to be approached by a devastatingly handsome male is in a crowded, smoky cigar bar rarely frequented by vampires—yet here he stands. Silas is flirtatious, gallant, and, above all, mysterious. Ivie is anything but. A nurse at the healer’s clinic and the daughter of a biker, Ivie is accustomed to speaking her mind. So she does. Since aristocrats rarely pick up females of her class, Ivie asks Silas just what kind of game he thinks he’s playing.

Despite her guarded exterior, Ivie surrenders to the fierce desire she feels for Silas. And yet, just as their courtship is heating up, he reveals that it cannot last, for he is bound to return to the Old Country. Their bond only deepens as they make the most of their precious time together. But when she learns the truth, Ivie must find a saving grace—before all is lost. . ."

This will be out March 13th.

Did you happen to remember the side story in JM and Xhex's book with a "Cajun" twist? The woman was a paranormal investigator, (I think), and the H was a vamp. He was possibly Xhex's ex, (Mhurder)? I thought that Ward would bring him into the storyline at some point, but she didn't. I don't think that she has brought Xhex into the story in a long time.

222868 JM doesn't look like Darius, or Wrath would have said something about that or one of the other Brotherhood guys. JM was pre-trans when we first met him, he was deaf and living in a crap place. So I guess that he had his own life too. Do you remember he lived with Tohr and Wellsie? Wrath and Beth do know that he is related to Beth, (Darius' daughter), and that was the reason why Quinn was his bodyguard of sorts. I forget the name for it.

I know what you mean when you said that Serena looks the same, it's got to be confusing. I hope that she isn't the total opposite of Trez's Serena. He, (and she), deserves an HEA too.

222868 I used to be a fan of the Carpathian series too. In fact I read the second book first not knowing that there was another book out. That's how long ago I started them. I read a bit longer than some folks here did, but it ran out of gas for me. I did like the Leopard series, especially the first few books. The Awakening The Awakening (Leopard People, #1) by Christine Feehan
Feehan seems to like to expand her series with too many novels with rotating characters. One good thing about the Leopard series is that the stories are from all over the world.
I do like her Shadow Riders series, it is unique with the character's ability to "ride the shadows". Shadow Rider. Shadow Rider (Shadow, #1) by Christine Feehan

I have been listening to Iced. Iced (Fever, #6) by Karen Marie Moning I thought that I wasn't going to like the two narrators and Dani's speech was annoying last time I listened to these books. I have either grown accustomed to it or it isn't as bad as I remembered.

222868 melindeeloo how about a comedy title? Lots of us fall back on these for a break from the darker novels.

On the TV movie front, I watched the King Arthur remake with Charlie Hunnam, (of Sons of Anarchy fame), King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. I thought that it was a different take on the whole legend thing. In this version he is very reluctant to lead. Also, I know where all of the Game of Thrones people went after their deaths on the show, they're all here. LOL!!

Liz... I don't know what will happen but the cover implies that the panther, (mountain lion), will be in the next book. (view spoiler)

222868 LAB... I'm glad that you mentioned Serena, I forgot about her. I knew that there was something else hanging in the BDB story but I couldn't remember what. She already did the re-incarnation thing with John Matthew, so why Serena and not others? Don't get me wrong, I do love the "Shadows" and Trez's story was heart-wrenching, and I do want him to find his HEA. It seems like Ward likes to tear apart couples every once in a while. Tohr and Wellsie for example.

I'm not sure that I'm all in with the Lassiter thing either.

222868 On audio I just finished a non-pnr book, The Pearl Thief. The Pearl Thief (Code Name Verity #0.5) by Elizabeth Wein It was a prequel of sorts to her Code Name Verity. Code Name Verity (Code Name Verity, #1) by Elizabeth Wein Set in Scotland in the 1930's and through the eyes of an almost 16 year old girl, I found it an enjoyable read. The h, Julie, has returned home to her beloved Grandfather's estate to help the family pack up and move her Grandmere because the estate has been sold. It will become a boys school to pay for the back debts incurred by her family to pay for her Grandfather's cancer treatment. Wein incorporates some antiquities, some "Travelers" lore and lifestyle, some coming of age, a murder, and a mystery about pearls that have disappeared. Cherished by her Grandfather, Julie remembers playing with a cup full of Scottish river pearls, but no one else seems to remember them. Arriving home early from Swiss boarding school to no one there but workers, Julie dons old clothes and sets out to sit in the sun by one of the rivers on the estate. Relaxing away from the noise of the construction, Julie falls asleep on the river bank and awakens to a naked man looking down into the river through a glass viewer, and then all goes black. This was a peek into the prejudices against "Travellers" and the close friendships that form in our young adult lives. I thought that it was a 4-4.5* read.

I am still attempting to clear out my audio TBR, so I think that I might try and tackle Iced. Iced (Fever, #6) by Karen Marie Moning It has been lingering on my TBR for a very, very, long time and I read the original books of The Fever series many years ago. I noticed that now KMM is listing Iced in between some of her Fever books. I don't know if I actually remember all that happened. If someone will please tell me why does MacKayla want her dead? I forgot. I hate that Phil Gigante is the narrator, but I already owned this audio book before all of the abuse news was out, and KMM's supposed support of him.

222868 Ilona Andrews have a question and answer post on today's blog. It's called Open Mike FAQ. It has a couple of interesting facts and the link to the story of when Dina's (Innkeeper), parents met.
