I really loved this book. This freebie was such a great recommendation for the author and for the entire Bluegrass series. I love it so much even the second time I've read it I was laughing so much as well as feeling the dreadful suspense even though I knew everything will be finally well.
The focus in this book is on the relationship of Kenna and Will but the entire community is introduced - at least the people you need to follow the story. And I must say I love the entire community especially the Rose sisters. I wish I had such 'fairy godmothers' in my life :-) Kenna's character development is wonderful and so smooth you don't even get a chance to follow the change and when you see the result you are amazed.
The pace is mostly very fast and the events don't let you put the book down a real page turner.
Recommendation: Yes!!!!

Let's face it - you can't like each book and this kind is so not my cup of tea I was really considering to abandon it within the last 50 pages.
The first part I was wondering - what the heck? Do I really want to complete this challenge so badly I'm going to suffer through?
The second part was somehow interesting (except the last - really long - chapter) and I started to hope I could like it - at least a little but then came the last part and it got just too much, too dark, too depresing, ...
Recommendation: No

213642 I love my cozies :-)

Miss Fortune series so fun, currently my most favorite series
Fox and O'Hare fun & naughty - I like it much more than Stephanie Plum which is quite nice as well (at least if you don't mind it's not very inventive)
Cherringham especially great for people learning English - shows in a practical way the differences between British & American English
Amber Reed Mystery celebrity cases set in UK
Cue Ball Mysteries MC is writter so always two stories - the book she's writing and the cozy-mystery
Honey Driver set in Bath - MC is hotel owner
Pascha (series title according to author`s web page - GR series title: Morgue Drawer / Kühlfach) MC's are a irreverent former thief now ghost and a old-fogyish pathologist - pretty fun
Jenessa Jones Mystery small town cozy

Good 1st in series - I hope to get the following books soon:
Aunt Bessie Assumes (Isle of Man #1) by Diana Xarissa Due North (Butterscotch Jones Mystery #1) by Melanie Jackson

That's a tough one especially since I'm not into SF:
I know there are at least two books in the In Death Series set in Space (Roarke's Olympus Ressort) - for sure the novella Interlude in Death but also one of the novels as well - I just can't remember which one.
Then there are of course: The Martian a book I still want to read
Sep 27, 2017 09:35AM

213642 My drinking preferences are so boring I'm going to book:

There are two great 'Whiskey' series:
Addison Holmes Mystery Series by Liliana Hart
Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels Series by J.A. Konrath
Both are fun. The first is tending more to cozy-mysteris but much hotter and more suspensful. The second one is very suspensful and gritty with graphic violence - and I have to warn you #3 in the Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels Series Rusty Nail is very gory and bordering on horror - so nothing for the faint of heart

213642 I don't read comics as well - but I have two I have on my iPad:

Wandering Koala Saves Christmas by Jeff Thomason short Christmas story I want to read in December

As child I loved the Asterix & Obelix stories and when I've seen Astérix - Le Papyrus de César - nº36 - Les étapes de création by Jean-Yves Ferri for free in July I got it after I decided to see how much of the French I learned way back I still remember - and it's not much so it'll take some time until I get to this one
Sep 26, 2017 06:12AM

213642 My first thought was this anthology of short stories Szkice z życia by Monika Pasek - lit. translation Drafts (or Sketches) From (or Of) Life. Unfortunatelly it's only available in Polish so I wanted to add another one and the next I remembered I loved was Small Wars (Jack Reacher, #19.5) by Lee Child giving some insight of Jack Recher's history before the series started. I love how Lee Child is providing more and more background information for Reacher and I'm already looking forward to the next one in series :-)
Sep 24, 2017 07:36AM

213642 That's nice:

The Christmas Bake-Off by Abby Clements short Christmas story
Divorced, Desperate And Dating (Divorced and Desperate, #2) by Christie Craig great chick-lit with some suspense
My Affair with Mickey by Tami Casias I love the cover so much

favorite fiction: Her Final Breath (Tracy Crosswhite, #2) by Robert Dugoni I love the entire series - especially the MC - she's so strong and resilient. The author's style was a revelation to me.

213642 Cool another read-a-thon :-)))))))))

Favorite book:
There're so many great books and I don't think I have one favorite so I'm going for the one I love since about 30 years: Błękitny Zamek by L.M. Montgomery = The Blue Castle by L.M. Montgomery by L.M. Montgomery

Short book:
The first that came to my mind was A Two-Way Street a drabble by Megan Payne by Megan Payne
According to Wikipedia A drabble is a short work of fiction of around one hundred words in length. The purpose of the drabble is brevity, testing the author's ability to express interesting and meaningful ideas in a confined space. The author mentioned it to be exactly one hundred words which makes it even more difficult.
This short story was a revalation - for the first time I realised short can still be great or even better ;-)

213642 Paper Roses (Texas Dreams, #1) by Amanda Cabot

Title: Paper Roses
Author: Amanda Cabot
Genre: Christian historical romance
Tags: mail-order-bride, suspense, set in Texas, grief
Read: 10/8/17
Rating: 3*
Review:
I don't understand why I didn't like this book very much. It's very well written, has interesting characters and story plot. I liked the way it started and the back-ground story - especially the meanig of the title and its importance for the story, I liked Sarah and her sister very much, the relationships she developed - on the ranch and in the town - and her development within the story. In the beginning I wasn't so sure about Clay but liked him more with each chapter.
Still all in all I don't feel like I'll miss anything if I never read this book.
Recommendation: Only if you like mail-order-bride stories with a twist or Christian historical romance with some suspense.

213642 I'm aware these two books don't fit the Standard BARC Rules & Regs - but I loved the first one so much I really wanted to write this review and the second one I got from the author and promissed to post a review when I finished it and I noticed this challenge helps me pretty well to get my thought in line :-)

Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist by Rachel Cohn
Title: Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist
Author: Rachel Cohn & David Levithan
Genre: YA
Tags: short period of time, NY, fun, romance, music, dual POV, 1st person (both POV)
Read: 9/16/17
Rating: 5*
Review:
Nick and Norah are both suffering from broken hearts. So when Nick sees the girl who dumped him walk in with a new guy he asks the strange girl next to him to be his girlfriend for the next five minutes.
Norah would do anything to avoid conversation with the not-friend girl who dumped Nick, and get over the Evil Ex whom Norah never quite broke up with. And so she agrees.
What follows is an epic first date between two people who are just trying to figure out who they want to be – and where the next great band is playing.

I'm seldom excited by young adult ficiton so each time I find any ya I enjoy I'm even more enthusiastic.
I started this book without any expectations and only because it was the only one I found that was set within a few hours and Sa/Su only. Now I don't know where to begin there are so many things I love. So here the most important points in no particular order:
- already after the first chapter I was hooked and after a few chapters I couldn't stop to read.
- I love Nick and Norah very much and I would love to read how their story continued.
- I'm amazed how it's possible to write a story set in such a short span of time with such complex and well developed characters.
- I love the style of the authors and hope to read more by them (written together and by each one)

Prayers Were No Help by Paul Lawrence

Read: 9/17/17
Rating: 2*?
Review:
Several weeks after Jack's wife dies, he escapes to a cabin on lake and meets Toby and this meeting changes his life.
I have to admit it's one of the most difficult books to rate and review I ever read.
The first six chapters I was convinced it will become one of my favorite books and was amazed about the story, the intensity of emotion and how realistic it was. The next three chapters I wanted to chuck my Kindle against a wall and that's something I'm really not used to - even if I dislike a book. The last few chapters I was dithering between - what a crap (just my very subjective POV) and I think it could get really great.
I was really struggling with the positive thinking ideas overriding the core of Christian faith. I'm aware some if it is tied to past hurts and I'm really great a book that started so great and written in such a wonderful way has so much potential to hurt people that are already hurting - just because the author transports the conviction all negative happening in our life is more or less our own 'fault' or at least we caused it ourself - because we have the 'wrong' beliefs and that's something I got very much hurt about and ask myself where that leaves God's sovereignty.
I know that's one of the controversial subjects in many Christian churches - but I still can't see any possibility to agree this brand of positive thinking with the Bible.

This book was provided by the author in exchange for an fair and honest review and did not biase in any way my opinions.
Recommendation: not really

If you saved it as html file try than to post it as a link: < a href="add the http address" >add text< /a > (delete the blank spaces in the two brackets - there should be spaces only between a & href and in your text if you use more than one word)

Once Upon a Prince by Rachel Hauck
Title: Once Upon a Prince
Author: Rachel Hauck
Genre: Christian Romance
Tags: royalty, contemporary, realistic fiction
Read: 9/15/17
Rating: 5*
Review:
Susanna Truitt never dreamed of a great romance or being treated like a princess - just to marry the man she has loved for twelve years. But life isn't going according to plan. When her high-school-sweetheart-turned-Marine-officer breaks up instead of proposing, Susanna scrambles to rebuild her life.

The last thing Prince Nathaniel expects to find on his American holiday to St. Simons Island is the queen of his heart. A prince has duties, and his family's tense political situation has chosen his bride for him. When Prince Nathaniel comes to Susanna's aid under the fabled Lover's Oak, he is blindsided by love. Their lives are worlds apart. He's a royal prince. She's an ordinary girl. It's the ultimate choice: His kingdom or her heart?

I think I found a new series I'm going to love. The last two books by Rachel Hauck were not my favorite so I had no big expectations for this one. Now I'm glad I got the first three books in this series before I read the previous two.
I love the characters, the story, style and especially it appears so realistic. I love the way the author resolved the obstacles and created a happy end without compromising any character or their values. It was a fast paced and sweet romance with enough drama to keep the pages turning.

Recommendation: Yes!

Hurricane Force (Miss Fortune Mystery #7) by Jana Deleon
Title: Hurricane Force
Author: Jana Deleon
Genre: Cozy-Mystery
Tags: Hillarious, Small Town Cop, Undercover CIA operative, Witness Protection, written in 1st person, short span of time
Read: 9/13/17
Rating: 5*
Review:
All books in the Miss Fortune series are set within a few days - up to one week (the first seven books together span a period of five weeks).
Fortune's cover was blown because of a mole at the CIA headquarters after she got a price tag on her head her boss send her to a back country town in the bayou posing as his boss' niece - a former beauty queen turned librarian. Only there's no female bone in her body and Sinful, Louisiana is what anyone would expect. Besides the eruption of crime this successfull CIA assassin must deal with culture shock, The Geritol Mafia and the interest of the local deputy - that much about flying under the radar :-)

I so love this series and I'm amazed how many different variations of a theme are possible and it still remains fun. I love all but one characters - and it's purpose she's so difficult to like as well as their development and growing relationships. It was another fun and entertaining book and I'm already looking forward to the next in series!

Recommendation: Oh yes!
