213642 Great book! Favorite of 2017, and also the first book I read of 2017, having just read The Name of the Wind the end of 2016. Definitely worth it on audio, cuz Nick Podehl is one of the narrators (same guy as the book I just read). I love his narrations. Was going to listen to The Way of Kings on audio but at 46 hours I decided to just read it. Now I wish I had listened, since I kind of abandoned it for needing challenge books.

Ha! Yeah, Angie has it covered. :D That was a hard one to find much for.

Yeah, Karen Rose's books are kind of long. I read her for a long while, never on audio tho.

213642 Yeah, it was quite long, but it's one of my favorite narrators so I didn't mind, and I speed him up some cuz he's super slow.

Angie found a few purple/red, I believe she was going to get to one of them next. I had one I thought I was going to read, but the formatting was all messed up.

What's your 28 hour one? The longest audio I've listened to was The Wise Man's Fear at 43 hours! :/

213642 Gonna move the book I just finished to the Sneezy task. I can make it work for sickly, and we'll have that one done since it was a bit harder.

Gonna start on the 85% white book today. Hopefully it won't take as long. The one I just finished was 22 hours on audio. :/

Rules & Regs (44 new)
Feb 25, 2018 05:15PM

213642 Yes, they may be done in any order, but books in Events 1 & 2 must be done in order. You may read for other Events between the books, but when you go back to that even they must be done in order.

Re-reads are different here. There's no time restriction on WHEN it was last read. However, there's a limit of only 1 re-read allowed per month.

We have some stricter rules when it comes to stuff like that, to make things more interesting. :) If you didn't see it, the Rules & Regulations of BARC is a good thread to check out for particulars.
Rules & Regs (44 new)
Feb 24, 2018 07:12PM

213642 They can be used.

All BARC books can be used across all different challenges. Stand-Alones only mean that there's not any more of that challenge coming, not that books can't be read for it. Ongoing challenges the ones that, in addition to always changing, you can't use the same book only WITHIN those challenges.

Books can be used across all challenges, just not within the SAME challenge. So 1 book can not be used for multiple events in Olympics or different Randemoniums.

So in your case, yes the same book can be used for each individual stand alone challenge: Olympics, Author Chain, PoC & Title Waterfall.

Sorr, I'm probably not saying it well. It's said best in the Rules & Regs:

If you can make them work, Books may be used for multiple challenges
**NOTE: Many challenges have books that must be read in an order, if a book used across challenges doesn't meet that requirement, it may NOT be used

Books may NOT be used multiple times in same challenge(s)
**NOTE: this includes within ongoing challenges
Ongoing challenges are: CYO, Legacy, PaW, PuP & Randemonium
You may use the same book for one challenge in PaW and one in PuP, but not for two different challenges within PaW

213642 How about Jurassic Park / Lost World? :)

And yup. Good enough for me. :D
Feb 18, 2018 05:25PM

213642 Sorry, which Yearly one were you meaning? I thought you meant TTT because of mentioning doing them after they were posted. For TTT the tasks may be done at any time, so you wouldn't be able to use books you read prior to joining BARC for it, as you need to read books just from signup but you can cover any books for TTT after they've been posted.

For Bookish Yearly, I'll go ahead and allow one month of back-reading. So joining in Feb, if you have books that you read that can cover the ones you want to do for Bookish then you can go ahead and do that.

Does that help any? I think I confused myself!
Feb 18, 2018 01:55PM

213642 We don't mind questions. :) But I'm going to defer to Angie for your first question as that's her challenge, so she'll get with you soon on that.

As for the other question, the answer is "yes, but". You can use challenges for different challenges, but not for multiple challenges within the same "ongoing" challenges. It's best explained in our Rules & Regs of BARC thread, in the 2nd post.

You can use the same book for both Bookish Yearly and TTT because they are two different challenges, but you can't use the same book for two different Randemonium because they are the same challenge.

The best suggestions I can give you for BARC is if you have to question if something fits, then don't use it. BARC challenges are VERY literal and precise to make things more difficult. For example, we don't allow articles to be ignored and the 2nd word to be used for Letter challenges. Or if we ask for a face on the cover, we won't take just the nose. Items have to be half, or more, of what it is to count.

We like to make things a challenge around here. :) Hope that helps.
Feb 16, 2018 05:02PM

213642 Questions can always be in the "Rules & Regs" thread, that's our Rules/FAQ thread, but here is fine too.

If you don't start it til the last one is released then that will work, it doesn't have to be released at the time of this Challenge. If you happen to get an ARC version of it, we'll accept that too. So as long as you don't start the quartet before the final book is out, it'll work.
Feb 16, 2018 12:39PM

213642 Yeah, that definitely fits for the title/series. Will take something like that if it's mentioned in title/series. Cuz I don't think they'd put a parrot on the cover of a book called Crow for Me. LMAO!
Feb 16, 2018 12:03PM

213642 Nope, sorry. Gotta assume that's a magpie, and looks like one with that tail.

I couldn't use the one I was gonna to for it either, Hubby informed me it's a Crow, because of the fan tail.
