It took several years for me to write this and manuscripts for four other languages: Spanish, Italian, Chinese and Arabic. After a few more years of doubts and cancer, I published the book for Spanish. It took two more years to dust off and update the book for French and do the numerous illustrations. Now, as you all know, the work begins!

Thanks for the advice, Erica and Carole. I wrote to Gwyneth Paltrow, who speaks Spanish and French, via her lawyer and never got an answer.

For learning some French, my favorite is the Berlitz Basic Course in French. I used the book for Chinese. I think it's more fun to try to say things, and people appreciate your efforts. French for dummies has some cute things to say, but not everything is on the CD. There's always Rosetta Stone, but it's more expensive and extensive.
About food: Christmastime: la bûche de Noël, the Yule log. I make one every year. And, la gratinée, onion soup with a crusty topping, and nothing beats la baguette and le croissant. I envy you, have a great time.

While we're on the subject of celebs, can anyone answer this? If we want a particular celebrity to see our book (and hopefully recommend it or send some quotable comments, is it better to contact them first to see if they will receive the book, or just to send it?
