I think mentioning them is alright and maybe a small bit of dialogue is OK as long as it’s positive. If it’s something bad, I’d just makeup a celeb
Navigating the Independent Book Publishing world is hard. Hard enough so, that we are looking to uplift each other, provide useful tips, tools and general encouragement in the process. Please take these guidelines seriously. This is not the place for Religious or Political debates. This is not the place to post about your outlook on race. The only times this is acceptable is if it is writing related. IE: Characterizations, questions on how to broach these topics sensitively without insulting, degrading or isolating anyone. Thank you!DO NOT leave hateful or hurtful comments.- BE MINDFUL BEFORE YOU POST.
DO NOT harass anyone in the group. - Including compliments sexual in nature, spamming for any reason or asking them to purchase your services. There is a thread for that.
DO NOT be a jerk. There are enough of those in other groups. - SEE ABOVE
DO encourage or give helpful criticism when asked.- ALWAYS
DO give advice. -THAT IS UNBIASED
DO share what has helped you. -WITHOUT BERATING ANOTHER's CHOICES
DO review an indie book and pay it forward.-IF YOU FEEL INCLINED.
This is a positive group created by Julie A. Gerber and Carole P. Roman, the authors of Navigating Indieworld: A Beginner's Guide To Self-Publishing And Marketing Your Book. Everyone is welcome.
This forum has skewed into territory on more than one occasion that has nothing to do with writing. If you have personal things you want to discuss please do it via the private message feature on Goodreads. I'll be closing this thread and opening a new one that stays on topic. Post your gripes on writing and publishing topics only. Thank you
Thanks for posting Erica. I’ve found these takeovers to be a huge help in growing my sales and readership. I hope some of you guys at least give it a shot and remember you can give straight to kindle prizes. All you need is the mobi version of say a first in series and require that they provide a kindle email for delivery. You don’t have to give away gift cards as incentives. Just make your games and questions interesting.
I had a problem with my recent paperback. I called them they sat on the phone with me for 30 mins until I had the problem figured out. Same RGB thing as Theo, then he offered to call me back. I had no reason to believe he would. He did. On time and as he waited as i reuploaded the file I asked about the shut down. He told me they weren’t shutting down anytime soon but their services department had stopped generating revenue and it made no sense to keep them. He said they were focusing more on a Do It Yourself platform but that they weren’t going anywhere. It could have been lip service but I believed him. Anyway they sent me my new proof 2 days later for free and it was perfect. For now I’m staying until I absolutely have to leave.
Yep. Just got the same email. I’m screwed too. And so are a ton of trad authors having the discussion on twitter and Facebook. This sucks
You should expect 1 click for every 1000 impressions. From first glance your cover doesn’t say psychological to me so that may be a reason. Remember the first 3 lines of your blurb are what people see on Amazon. If you don’t grab them with those first three lines they won’t read, but if your cover throws them for a loop, they won’t get that far enough to read the blurb.
I couldn’t help myself I looked. He doesn’t know what the he’ll he’s talking about. Trad publishing absolutely requires you to market just as much as self publishing. And as for the snide remark of not knowing who someone is, ask him if he knows who EL James is. She was self published.Tons of authors, Mark Dawson for example made 100k in Kindle Unlimited in February alone. Just because he doesn’t know an author means nothing. Grr people suck
Just reading that turned my blood to lava. I will not click because I’ll lose it on whoever posted it. Jackass

I review is a review. Why count an older review as less simply because its older? A class action lawsuit is afoot though so we will see
The new Amazon debacle. Apparently reviews aren’t literal anymore. They are based on an algorithm and when questioned about it from an author, they wouldn’t explain. Oy. My head is spinning
You need to branch off into Facebook reader groups. There’s a huge boom for your sci-fi books there.
