193869 On the whole I really enjoyed this movie. I'm glad they didn't do the typical "baddie is just the hero with the same powers, but bad" story and I think a lot of the side characters were very well crafted. I definitely felt a lot for Carol's friend Maria -- Lashana Lynch's performance was incredible.

There were a lot of little twists and unexpected turns that caught me off guard throughout the movie that I really enjoyed. It's not often that a Marvel movie surprises me nowadays and I was pleasantly surprised throughout this movie.

I really can't wait to see how Carol interacts with the rest of the Avengers!

193869 Finally catching up on some X-Books:

Age of X-Man: The Amazing Nightcrawler #1
X-23 #8-10
Uncanny X-Men #11-13

Uncanny is sickeningly good. Matt Rosenberg is killing it so far on that book.

193869 I was very close to being a part-owner of a comic shop maybe 6-7 years ago. It would have been me helping take over a long-running shop and, honestly, would have been super irresponsible.

I think the guy who ran the shop liked me for some reason (and this dude didn't seem to like many people). He and his wife were a bit older and were probably just trying to get out of the daily life of running a shop (which I totally get). I don't know how / why I was one of the few people who were tapped as potential people to take over, but it was there and I definitely considered it -- I think it would have been a super tough but amazing experience.

Alas, it never happened, but for a long time I did want to try to run a comic shop, but as I've gotten older, I see how tough running any business can be, let alone a comic shop.

Strange! I felt like the show changed some things to make a more cohesive show (combining both volumes into one story to give it some extra meat) and by episode 6-7 it all really started to pay off.

That being said, I think trying to do the entirety of the comics would have been impossible given how wild and insane the story is.

Sure they changed some character powers around and sure they tweaked the story to make it work for 10 episodes, but I didn't think the spirit of the comic was lost.

Hey Devon,

The site you posted is a major piracy site and is very sketchy. No one can stop you from using it, but we at IRCB do not condone piracy. Piracy seriously hurts the already very small industry that we all enjoy.

In the future, any endorsement or recommendation of piracy will result in a removal from this group.

THAT IS ALL.

Hey Adam! Welcome to the IRCB group and thanks for checking out the show! Chicago Comics is a stellar comic shop--I used to check that place out whenever I was in town for my old job in the city.

Got any recent favorite comics? Any comics you like to recommend to folks?
Watchmen (16 new)

193869 Watchmen is a piece of its time. I think what Moore was trying to do with the book as a reflection of comics in the 80s works, though the book has some issues when viewed through modern lens.

Nonetheless, it still stands as a book that defined popular comics of the time and, for me, is a classic comic that nailed the unbelievable grittiness of the time. To say that it's a perfect comic is a bit of a stretch, but I find it enjoyable to read when I want to take on something complex and shocking.

As a story, it's unbelievably dense. I don't think I've ever managed to read it all in a sitting, let alone a few sittings. It's very much a "chapter per sitting" read for me--especially given the prose work.
193869 I read this a few months ago and was seriously impressed by how much I enjoyed this entire series (I was originally very hesitant on this and the Star Wars series). The first volume establishes some very fun story points and I think Gillen & Larroca as a team are incredible on this volume.

I watched the first ep of Doom Patrol and it was pretty decent. Reading Vol 1 side by side was VERY interesting as well. I'd say maybe wait for a few episodes, but I think the series has promise.
