I thought of the deluxe edition of the first Shazam issues that was canceled because of the depiction of minorities therein. I can certainly see the issues as being important to the history of comics, but by the same token, putting such treatment of human beings in a spiffy deluxe edition is crass and uncalled for. One can also say it's a historical document reflecting the zeitgeist in which they were created. As a white someone, it is easier for me to fall into the first camp, but having seen the content, I endorse the cancellation.
What was objectionable in Watchmen, since it was called out by name? I'm wondering what I missed.

Devon wrote: "Yeah it's sad to hear. Vertigo is my 2nd favorite publisher of all time and if they are closing down it's sad to see it go but not too suprising since it's recently not been doing well"That seems to be the consensus on r/DCcomics.

Ed wrote: "Yeah, I'd like to read that, too. I'm not into superheros at all. Just not my thing. An occasionally Batman is OK. But I find the parodies more interesting, like [book:Batman/Elmer Fudd Special #1|..."Out of curiosity, were any other superhero comics considered? Or was it just Batman?
Ed wrote: "How do you feel about Hispanic Batman ?"Surprised, because I did not know that was a thing. I would be inclined to read it. Though a hispanic Batman immediately reminds me of The Tick's Batmanuel. (

Christopher wrote: "Don't you mean eff Tom King?"No, because I've not read enough of his Batman to comment, and what I have read was stellar.

I get it that he's DC's flagship character/fan favorite, I just wish he wasn't SO ubiquitous. No real reason for the post, other than to vent. I do like the character, just not to see him at every turn.

Drops of God sale at Comixology ends 5/22.

Regarding Fence Vol. 1,
(view spoiler)[are all of the characters gay? And participating in a sport where poking opponents with things that are longer than they are wide the way to win? (hide spoiler)]

I finished Morrison's run this weekend. I think Vol. 1 benefits from having read the succeeding books, especially Issue #5.

Animal Man Vols. 1-3 (the Morrison run)
Lone Wolf and Cub Vol. 1
Fence Vol. 1
Rachel Rising Vol. 1
Jem and the Holograms Vol. 1
Asterix Vol. I
The Massive Vol. 1

A couple of questions about Volume 2...
(view spoiler)[It seems like the Crisis is responsible for the eradication of the older Buddy, replacing him with the younger version found here. Is this right?
Also, his actual origin story was that he was killed in the spacecraft explosion and the aliens put him back together, giving him powers as well? (hide spoiler)]

I really enjoyed this volume, as I was totally new to Animal Man before this. I really need to read The Coyote Gospel again since that seemed the meatiest of the issues. But I really appreciated how different the stories were and yet fell easily into the same continuity.

The book reminded me of Requiem for a Dream in that it seemed like a meditation on a theme. A direct correlation to Issue #2, but could be said about all of the issues in the book.

Would I be right in thinking that
(view spoiler)[all of the musical characters die in the songs they're from?
Also, I was surprised Yellow Submarine wasn't mentioned in the minisode because that's the first thing I thought of when their ride showed up. (hide spoiler)]
Asterix the Gaul by Goscinny and Uderzo

I liked it a lot. Aphra was interesting, but 000 and BT were my favorites.
I found it interesting Vader's description of the Emperor's plan was "blasphemous", speaking of the Force in religious terms.
I'd love to see this as an animated movie or TV series.
