189072 I am just now into vol 2. So waiting for the story to move along. There are times I feel like something happens quickly off page, but then stuff on page drags like some have mentioned. It is very interesting and such a different way of story telling. I am anxious to get through this thing.

189072 Enemy at the Gates The Battle for Stalingrad by William Craig Enemy at the Gates: The Battle for Stalingrad by William Craig might be a good starting point. American author but told of the conflict between the Germans and the Russians over Stalingrad. Movie came out about 12 year ago I think.

189072 In the end I enjoyed the book but I struggled early on. I thought it was just ok. Maybe in a different frame of mind I might have enjoyed it a little more.

Brilliant! I was so bummed because I looked at like 5 digital libraries and it isn't available. Then I looked for the CDs and they had one! Thank you.

47 hours is long, but I just finished Sanderson's, Oathbringer and it was like 57 hours. But I can speed up the digital versions so this will take awhile...

This! I had to read through some of the stories with my kids recently. I didn't realize how many modern concepts originated in Greek myth. Names, actions, ideas, so much has filtered into modern thought and pop culture.

189072 Ok, I'm in the minority but I really struggled with this book and actually considered DNF'n this thing at the halfway point. At least half of the book was totally boring for me. There wasn't much going on. The last quarter of the book was entertaining but overall I wasn't into it.

I also felt like the flashbacks for Mia were really long and sustained. I know there was character backstory that plays into the adoption segment, but I felt like it interrupted the main story line. Maybe it was placement?

Also, I have a question and this is a discussion group right? Don't hate me on this one. Maybe you already do hahaha.

Ok, I like really good beer. But I agree with the legal drinking age requirement because we all agree a little maturity is good when making decisions so kids should wait. I enjoy sex, but again, society has set standards that there should be a "legal age of consent" for participating. You can't show a minor engaged in it or we confiscate creepy mens' computers and send them to jail. BUT, we can write about minors in a book and its all good. Are there mixed messages going on here? Is it just me?

189072 Wow I didn't realize how Sassy she was! There was a lot of "ehem" scandalous issues discussed in this book. I could totally see her as a prototype for many YA novels.
189072 I second all Ursula K. Le Guin offerings suggested in her memory.

I also nominate The Island of Dr. Moreau by H.G. Wells

189072 Thanks Marcos. Looks like he is credited on Good Omens also. There are probably over 20 or so uber chic modern writers out there with some good offerings so I was just curious as to why he came up so frequently. I think Stephen King was the only other with more than one. I don't care either way, was just curious. :)
