Modern, so not sure if they're what you're looking for, but the Burnout series is good, and has 2 bks that have scarred/amputee cast. Dahlia West, Shooter & bk4 or so is Easy
Huh, there's a book I read about... something (helpful, I know), but am pretty sure the second book was about a 'minced up' (not trying to be rude) H who was a friend of H&hBK1. From memory, he survived when they all thought him dead, but he was so messed up, he decided to stay hidden. Think it was going to be about him deciding to go after his fiancée who was about to marry another since he was dead. Was historic. Will try and track down bk1.
No worries. Was my fav series for a few years about a decade ago... but I shall never forget them ;)
Not sure about the reading progress bit, but it makes no sense that it would change just because you add the book to a shelf/shelves. As long as your not rating the book on the way in (stars), then it should stay as is. As for multiple shelves, it's not a problem. But if you do find it disappearing off one shelf when you mark another, go into 'my books' and 'edit' shelves. Make sure you haven't marked any of the relevant shelves as 'exclusive'.

Isn't that the plot of Mrs Winterbourne(?) movie? Staring Ricki Lake... Was always a guilty pleasure.

Huh, I didn't know you could get specific series links in GR's. Thought you just had to search author. Thx Kris

Think the authors name is Eion? Or something like it. Have done a search but no good. It came out around Harry Potter time, and is similar in the way it portrays this other side of society. It's not imagined or dainty in any way.
The kid is a genius and is basically raised by this body guard (don't really remember his parents around at all.
He manages to trap one of the fairy's when she makes her (monthly?) trip to get an acorn(?) from a tree on the surface to renew her power. Think they generally grab a couple of nuts so they don't have to come out each time.
She (a main character) wakes in a cell and uses the metal bed to break thru the concrete so that she can plant(?) the acorn she still has so that her power will renew.
She is part of the fairy police force.
Over the series, the kid becomes very involved in the fairy's business/world.
There are other beigs, not just fairys
Am pretty sure some of it is the kid helping the fairy's dodge the government who it trying to find them
There are a few other characters that make the main group. A gnome or dwarf(?) who -as a speices - can dislocate the jaw so they can dig/eat tunnels... which of course requires the pants to be dropped so that the dirt can come out the other end.
There are bits where they come to the surface and where the kid goes into their world.
OH, and there's just a one liner about how funny they find the humans fascination with stone hedge as it's just the remnants of "names" old pizza drive thru.
(view spoiler)
