185 Oh my, Kagama, do I ever remember that one! Both the movie and the book, which I kept furtively hidden between the covers of my Trapper Keeper. Hehehe.

185 Alien Secrets by Annette Curtis Klause?
185 Haha, no worries! I loved that book, glad I could help you remember it.
185 Rosebush by Michele Jaffe
185 Bobbi - how long ago were you in elementary school? Do you think it was a new book at the time?
185 On the off chance that you've misremembered some details, I'll throw this out there: The Great Indoors. It has a single woman, an antique shop and a cat, and was published in 2005, but the rest doesn't match what you've described.
185 Yay! Another mystery solved. Nice work, Kris. I'll go ahead and move this to "solved" and add the book to our shelves.
185 Hooray! I'm at work today (library) and just saw that book on the shelf and said, "hey....I think that's Muna's book!" I don't know why it didn't come to mind earlier.

Happy to help! I'll move this to solved, if you like.
185 Oh, wait! Is it The Devouring, by any chance? It starts out with the big sister reading a scary book to her little brother at bedtime.
185 I'm going to move this thread to Children's/YA - Solved, since Catherine Fisher is a writer for young people and the reviews I've found for this book mention 8-12 year olds as its audience.
185 ooh, good find, Kris. I'm a big fan of that author and I didn't even know about that book. Sounds like a definite possibility!
185 I grew up in NY, too - the suburbs of Manhattan - and was always fascinated with any book about teens in the city. I really loved Norma Klein's books, her characters all seemed so worldly.
185 I'm happy to help! Mary Anderson is one of my favorite "forgotten" YA authors.

I'll go ahead and move this to "solved" for you.
185 Hang in there, Muna. Sometimes it takes awhile for a book to be identified.
185 Ugh, spammers suck. I flagged and deleted those comments.
185 Be sure to come back and let us know either way, so we can mark this solved or keep searching!

185 Victoria, I know the one you're talking about. The title escapes me right now. Give me a minute and I'll come up with it.
