Why does Matt Baker get more than Alex Jones?
or Huw Edwards get so much more than Fiona Bruce or Sophie Raworth?
It's all a load of cobblers :)

Example the 2 BBC breakfast news anchors are primarily Dan Walker and Louise Minchin - Dan Walker gets paid 250k per year and Louise Minchin doesn't even make the list of top earners (i.e less than 150k) WHY Does he get paid more?! Not only do they do the exact same job, but she has years more experience than him - he's a frickin newbie! Makes me very angry.

Members were not asked for questions on this occasion :)

As many have mentioned, it's probably best to start online. Set our agenda and discussion points and when you are able to get all interested people together on a video call, you'll need a rep to take complete control - otherwise it will be chaos.
Even the online 'summit' will take a lot of careful planning. You may want to find yourself a small team of people to help you and plan everything out.
When you are ready for the video 'summit' you could perhaps then record it, edit it and put it online - build a series of these up and that will give you a platform from which to begin. If they are informative and well organised, you will be more likely to attract guest speakers etc if and when you decide to take it to the streets.
Remember though, you can't try and lure people in by using Emma's name, unless she is directly involved, you will need to keep her name out of it.

Exciting news! Emma recently had the opportunity to interview Margaret Atwood :) you can read the full interview on EW here: http://ew.com/books/2017/07/14/emma-w...

Whilst their is a huge 'troll' problem, it should be up to the service you are using to take responsibility, for example, Goodreads have got some good systems in place to stop trolls or keep it to an absolute minimum. Social media in particular should invest some of it's huge profits into policing this more closely.

It covers a lot of women's issues, race issues... it covers lots! It's just brilliant.

Reading those comments is very moving, and if you haven't seen the thread you can find it here. Thanks also to Hulu and Vintage Books for the chance to run this competition for our members.

Hope that helps. :)

We are very pleased to announce that Cordelia has joined the moderating team here at OSS!
Cordelia is the brilliant mind behind The Book Fairies, which as many of you will know, closely collaborate with Emma and Our Shared Shelf on a number of projects.
Welcome Cordelia! :-) \o/

I think you need to contact the book fairies as they get these in specifically for books when Emma does a book drop for them - might be worth asking if they have some spares ;-)

Just a quick thank you to everyone (over two thousand of you!) who have left a lovely comment about Our shared Shelf. It's much appreciated by all of us! :)

Please can you kindly refrain from creating posts in the special announcements section.
Thanks.

We are very excited to announce that we have TEN copies of The Handmaids Tale signed by the author herself - Margaret Atwood.
This competition is WORLDWIDE and ends on Friday 23rd June. There are also 5 runner up prizes too - a t-shirt quoting “nolite te bastardes carborundorum”, a phrase from the book.
For your chance to win please simply fill in the form which you will find located on our good friends The Book Fairies website HERE: http://ibelieveinbookfairies.com/our-...
Finally, if you would like to leave a comment below to explain what Our Shared Shelf means to you, it would be great to hear from you.
Thanks very much,
The OSS Moderators
Thanks to Hulu and vintage books for this competition.

That 8 year old girl's face in particular got to me, she is just so young and innocent.
