I agree with many here - with Keith that it is really a bit sad that we are so many but only so few of us speak. We could be a storm that tears down a lot, now we are nothing more than a chill breeze.
With Ross that education is key to so many issues.
Thank you Ashley for telling us so much - it shows us that you can be an inadvertant feminist too.
Pam, these statistics are distressing, and I would love to adopt your (or similar) strategies into the world out there.
What we mustn't forget tho is that as a WE, we have to think of everyone, and not can't allow ourselves to forget someone.
P.S.: I love topics like this one.

Attendees over the age of 21 are invited to a cocktail hour following the event as well. Guests must provide valid ID to attend the cocktail hour.
For real? In Austria you can drink everything when you're eighteen, and some stuff when you're sixteen. Yeah, would be a great thing to attend!

The next Chat is approaching!
Saturday, October 21st, 20:30 UK Time/GMT
The topic will be Intersex as IntersexAwarenessDay and IntersexSolidarityDay are approaching. I am very happy to say that I got Kitty Anderson on the board. Since she is very busy I urge you all to not waste any time in the beginning and we get started soon.
So, the plan is as follows:
First, we have a Q&A, where we will ask her questions and she is invited to ask us questions as well.
For this, I ask you, if you have any questions, send me a PM, I will choose some along the ones I already have.
Secondly, we will cover the intersecting topic of feminism and intersex.
And as the last point, we will talk about intersex people and their treatment in history.
The book section will focus on Hunger, as we approach the deadline, but if we have the same situation as last time and we don't have anything to discuss here really we can switch over to intersex books. Have we read any, what's our opinion on them and so on and so forth.
We'll see what Freeform will bring:)
I really hope we have a full house.
Until then,

I am for marching and taking to the streets. Getting out there, getting the information out there, bringing the news to the people.
Do we have to be pacifist? I don't think so, although of course I wish it would always be possible without violence.
Peaceful protest has its impact. Remember Rosa Parks, she refused to stand up, and where it led now.
Think of the peaceful prayer at Standing Rock, where people around the globe were watching what happened at the 1851 treaty camp.
If we remain peaceful, we are on the powerful side. A peaceful protest is a very powerful tool!

That's a question to ask, but really, with all the bad stuff happening, we need to focus on the positive things.

This one is a really good one. I haven't read any of her other books yet, but I really admire her for the relationship with her mom. A very unique one, oh, you need to read it.

That's how you do it - you take a stand and then things change;)

Yep, NIX's psychologist IS wrong. I mean, regardless of what "counts" as intersex, as you have a very narrow view, sex and gender, as you said, are not the same;) For real, a little bit of Queer theory would suit some people quite well.

I never bothered to join the Scouts. Just wasn't my cup of tea.

Is anyone up for reading it? I wanna reread it.

I agree, and that's the thing. Gender identity is one thing, but the activities that are offered are the other. It really shouldn't matter which gender you identify as, you should be able to pick what you want.

Me neither. I only had one short look at it and saw #WomenBoycott trending, I don't know what I should think of it.
It's the calm before the storm. Now we're silent, but they can't hold us back any longer!

We could read:
Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides
None of the Above by I.W.Gregorio
Golden Boy by Abigail Tartellin
Intersex (for lack of a better word) (edit: by Thea Hillman)
or some others that I personally haven't read yet, but I have heard good things about:
Contesting Intersex: The Dubious Diagnosis by Georgianne Davis
Critical Intersex by Morgan Holmes (Ed.)
The last two are from an academic point of view, so maybe not exactly what we're looking for on OSS. Intersex (for lack of a better word), is an autobiography. Golden Boy shows us a Golden Boy, a boy, but with a very special secret. Max blurs our understanding of anatomy pretty much, it is not the easiest book to read because of the content, but it is really good. It shows us how diverse men can be. I so love it.
Then, None of the Above shows us how diverse women can be. It deals with questions on gender identity, medical terms a bit and also with puberty. It's really good, especially since it's a fiction book in which non-fiction events are included. It's my favourite one so far.
Now Middlesex is the oldest one here, and it focuses on other issues as well, but it shows really good what an intersex life looked like in the 60s and 70s. It's again not so easy to read because you just think how can you put a child through something like that, but it deals really good with asking how gender identity is formed, with feeling well in your own body, with having authority over your own body. And it shows, that sometimes the question of: Who are you?", needs to be answered with: What time do you want to know?"

That's a really good question that we might need to ask someone who knows it. Because I have no idea.
@NIX: I hope I could help you with my answer. If you have further questions, drop me a PM anytime, I'm glad to be of help.

What I see this today being about is another thing tho.
Yes, it is important to speak out, I totally agree, but for me, today is about solidarity.
Rose McGowan was silenced and so we decide to be silent as well, to stand in solidarity with her.
From tomorrow onwards, I will have no limits to tweet the heck out of it again.

Protests at abortion clinics are really bad. So I agree, that is definitely a progress.

I wouldn't use "mentally 'heal'" in this context. To say everyone who is committing a horrible crime is mentally ill is actually pretty sanist.
