So true. It is so important.

Thank you for that lengthy comment, it is always interesting for me to hear from other countries, whether that is in Europe or not. As far as I know, the religious Scouts don't distinguish by gender, and the ones who are not religious don't either here in Austria.
I am not sure about sexual orientation, but have never heard of any cases... I might be wrong, I don't know anybody who joined the Scouts in Austria and therefore my knowledge is rather hearsay than actual knowledge.

179584 What also helps me is coloring paintings, or just have fun with my friends... It is so important that we recharge our batteries from time to time...

But then we have to start somewhere, don't we?
Her essays are very good, they cover a variety of topics, which is always interesting to read. Also, I think it is important to read from a huge variety of authors, and in reading her essays this variety becomes a bit bigger.

My Life on the Road? So that my fellow Austrians learn more about the US (which is very limited, for real, when this book would be read in English classes pupils would learn more about the US's history than they ever do in history classes... what a shame really)

Or The Argonauts, to queer things up a little bit. Or Persepolis, or None of the Above, or Hunger Makes Me A Modern Girl... many books to choose from!

And possibly it would get us a new member or two:) On our way to 250.000:)

179584 A somewhat sad piece of music, but this one always calms me down:

And of course Harry Potter soundtracks, some of them are so soothing, like Reunion of Friends

I think we always have to be careful when we give power to people - whether that is an individual or a group of people.

I too will come back after having read "The Power".

I'm really sorry to hear what you've been through, that is horrible.
It is a biological function after all, and it really is something that needs to be handled accordingly.

Also, in my surroundings nobody really talks about having them, and if, then always in a way where you have to think on your side and then come to the conclusion that someone has it. Not that I say that you have to blurt it out, but this secrecy is really odd.

Which is why we have to keep a close look over them. The more careful we are, the less likely it is to happen!

Yeah, you better not read what the Bible has to say about menstruation. It's just really really crass.
Also, my mum was still taught that you can't cook jam for example when you're on your period, which to be honest, is really dumb. The jam doesn't mind if you are on your period or not, it is going to last as long as it does.

179584 Agnes, I agree, sometimes we need to escape to the world of fiction for our own sanity.

Jo, I agree, it's nice to read fiction again. What I wanted to say was that the world this fiction book describes is not a world we should strive for. A swap in gender roles doesn't bring gender equality at all.

Lucky you. One teacher of my cousin prohibits them to go to the bathroom during a lesson... which is kind of ridiculous when you are 14 years or older.

179584 That is a Cheyenne saying:
“A nation is not conquered until the hearts of its women are on the ground. Then its finished; no matter how brave its warriors or how strong their weapons.”

That song is definitely very melodic, and... has a very good message.
So, I don't listen to a lot of rap songs, but I really like everything by Sookee, she's a queer feminist and uh, she definitely does say what she thinks:)

True that, but this doesn't mean we shouldn't read it.

The post office where I normally mail off my mail has a shelf where you can bring and take books... normally nothing feministy tho;(
(Doesn't mean I can't change that tho:))

179584 Some fiction again... which I look forward to:)
Well, I doubt this is where we should go, but it's definitely worth reading I think.

Okay, so off to the book shops:)

I still remember it has an awful joke in it... I cringed at that one.
That book is so good tho. It's not as sad as the memoirs of Herculine Barbin... it's real:(
