"Emotional labor" is a sociological term, Arlie Hochschild coined it, she was referenced in Beauty Myth (if you have read that, was fairly in the beginning of the book)

You do good. Acknowledging one's privilege is the first step to more awareness, and therefore, the first step to be a better person. It can be a difficult process, but it is the only real way to help others. After acknowledging one's privilege one can learn, and then one maybe needs to only further acknowledge one's privilege.
I don't know, maybe it is easier to acknowledge your privileges the more non-privileges you have. Because I guess the less privileges you have, the easier it is to understand a new of not having privilege. (Mind tho, that this last sentence is totally not based on any research and I could be totally wrong with it).
You asked how you can help the one's who aren't as privileged as you are. Learn, learn as much as you can, get your fingers around books, and read blogs and watch Youtube videos. If you want to, I'd love to share a few books and videos with you.

I totally agree, acknowledging one's privilege is a hard thing to do (especially the part to shut up your brain that wants to tell them what to do)
You do great in listening, you do. And giving others space. Thank you for that, my friend.
This goes to Britt as well: OSS is a good place to learn, I learned a lot here. You'll do good, start with one privilege and then move forward to the next one. And remember to always listen - to listen and learn is the most important thing in my opinion.
And yes, not everybody can start a rocket instantly, and many don't ever. The important thing are the small steps, the everyday-life solutions, the everyday-life questions. No one starts their activism with signing a statement. And that's totally okay.

Und du hast recht, Demokratie besteht aus mehr als nur zur Wahl gehen. Volksbegehren und allgemein Initiativen, sowie Farbe bekennen und einer Partei beitreten sind nur einige Möglichkeiten.
Vielleicht braucht es aber auch all das jetzt. Zum Aufwachen, damit sich Leute endlich mal wieder was trauen und auf den Putz hauen. Mal sagen wo's lang geht. Trump hat den Women's March auf den Plan gerufen, die AfD wird vielleicht so etwas ähnliches machen. Irgendwie hat man es ja schon kommen sehen, dass die Rechten immer stärker werden, gut geht's mir dabei natürlich nicht.
In Österreich sieht es derzeit sehr danach aus, dass die FPÖ in die Regierung kommt. Wenn ich gewisse Leute schon nur höre, muss ich wegschalten weil ich ihr Gefasel nicht aushalte. Meinen die doch echt der Islam sei nicht österreichisch. Die passen mal besser im Geschichtsunterricht auf, Österreich hat als erstes europäisches Land den Islam anerkannt, das muss 1908 gewesen sein wenn ich mich nicht grad arg täusche.
Es wird sich zeigen, aber das sich die Grünen quasi grad gespalten haben, und sie außerdem nur mehr Flüchtlinge zum Thema haben (und vielleicht eine Spur Feminismus) macht sie nicht gerade beliebt. Sicher haben sie auch andere Themen, aber man bekommt bei den Grünen irgendwie nur das Flüchtlingsthema mit.
Die Schwarzen, die Volkspartei, hat sich jetzt auch mehr oder weniger gespalten, das wird denen sehr weh tun, vor allem da Kurz jetzt sehr zentralistisch agieren will, etwas das eigentlich SPÖ Politik ist. Die SPÖ hat Einbußen bei Landtagswahlen hinnehmen müssen, vielleicht muss sie es auch bei der Nationalratswahl.
Da bleiben eigentlich nur noch die FPÖ, die wird sicher stark, viele ÖVP-Wähler denk ich mal werden da umspringen, die sind sich am nähesten ideologisch gesehen. Ich mag sie beide nicht sonderlich.
Das einzig gute ist, dass wir jetzt das Volksbegehren haben #Volksbegehren2.0 und ich denke das kann vielleicht wie ein Puffer wirken. Naja, auf die Unis ist auch noch Verlass, die ÖH hat einen gesellschaftspolitischen Auftrag, und an der Uni Graz gibt es ein Referat für Feminismus. Es kommt halt drauf an, wie wir da antworten, auf AfD und FPÖ, da ist auf jeden Fall was möglich.
Ich bin nicht bereit im letzten Jahrhundert zu leben, nur weil ich da geboren wurde.

Was sagt ihr, wie gefährlich ist die AfD wirklich? Und war es wirklich ein politischer Erdrutsch oder nicht?
Und wie wirkt sich das ganze auf den Feminismus in Deutschland (vielleicht auch Österreich) aus?
Ich schaue ja schon eher ängstlich zum 15. Oktober, wenn es für uns Österreicher dann soweit ist.
