174195 Happy first round of results! And it was a close race the whole way through, but we've ended up with THREE (?!?!) winners. When I went to sleep last night, there was only one in the lead, but we got some strong voting late in the game.

Top:
A book with a road trip or long journey
A book with a primarily red, green or blue cover
A book related to blood, sweat, or tears

Bottom:
There are no bottom prompts in the pre-poll!

174195 We've had classic prompts both ways: "A classic book" or "A book published more than 50 years ago"

So both wordings/definitions have made it through the polls and on the lists at one point or another. I personally prefer "classic book" though I do have a 40 Before 40 list that I'm working on so the prompt would definitely be filled by a book that's older than 50 years.

174195 Thanks everyone!

Tracy, I had forgotten I had made that change last year - will do it going forward!

174195 Thanks y'all! Due in December. My babies have done a great job accommodating the ATY voting schedule haha!

174195 Haha y'all, you must excuse my pregnancy brain for the entire remainder of this voting season. I accept any and all corrections. I've updated the first post - yes, results will be on the last day of the current month, which is June.

Is the first question meant to be Trish's profile URL? I'm guessing it's meant to be an example and the question ..."

174195 THOUGHTS AND IDEAS FROM THE (2025) SUGGESTIONS THREADS

1. A book with a road trip or long journey
ex, West with Giraffes, HItchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Grapes of Wrath, On the Road...

2. A book with a main character who is an outsider
This idea is similar to the "fish out of water" suggestion, but maybe a bit broader.

From Pam's original post: "It could be someone who just has ideas that aren’t mainstream or a competitor/applicant who is seen as a long shot. More obvious examples are people who are new to a community (school, city, country, planet, workplace), have a disability, don’t speak the primary language, an alien or robot, etc. (A mid-grade book with a movie coming out later this month, The Wild Robot, just came to mind.)"

6. A book with a main character that has a pet
Harry Potter, Lessons in Chemistry, Just for the Summer, etc

174195 Welcome to our first round of voting for the 2026 reading list!

Voting will open in the morning of June 26, 2025 and results will be posted in the morning of June 30, 2025 (CST time).

How it works:
- When the voting opens, follow the link to the mini-poll that will be added at the end of this post
- You have a total of 4 votes this poll to spread across your favorite and least favorite prompts (you can also use less than 4 votes)
- You can find examples of acceptable voting practices on the Introduction thread.
- The prompts with the more favorable votes (comparing top votes to bottom votes, and looking at the overall number of votes it received) will be added to the final list

We are asking people to include their Goodreads profile address when they vote. To find this, just go to your own profile and then copy the URL/web address. If for some reason you can't link to your Goodreads profile, please post your full Goodreads name with enough identifiable information that we'll be able to access your profile.

NOTE: You will have FOUR total votes for this pre-poll.

Poll Prompts:
1. A book with a road trip or long journey
2. A book with a main character who is an outsider
3. A book with a primarily red, green or blue cover
4. A biography or memoir
5. A book related to blood, sweat, or tears
6. A book with a main character that has a pet
7. A book involving a fork in the road or a life changing decision

Feel free to discuss the prompts below, but please remember to be respectful to the other group members.

174195 I'll get the Mods to a thread!

174195 Yes, Jackie mentioned above that the wedding should actually happen in the book for it to count. If it involves someone being left at the alter, or the wedding getting interrupted, I think that would be fine.

174195 In regards to Atmosphere, I personally don't think that the military characters in the story are present enough for me to count it as the military one. I used it for the author with 10+ books (TJR has 17 individual works listed on GR).
Jun 15, 2025 07:13AM

174195 I've updated the top post. Though the read-a-thon is over, I'm leaving the voting spreadsheet open until Monday morning (CST) to give people time to input their final votes.

174195 I'll be updating that top post periodically!
