174195 Suggestion: A book on one of Goodreads New Releases by Genre page

https://www.goodreads.com/new_releases/

This link will take you to the most recent month, but you can scroll back to see previous months listed. There are around 50 options per month in a variety of genres, so it's a great prompt for people who want a list and for people who don't want a list!

174195 Eek how fun! I'm sure we would be happy to list some basic details for people to vibe off of (authors we know, occupations, etc)

174195 It's time for our next round of suggestions!

Just a reminder that you can find a full list of prompts already on the 2026 list in the third post on this thread.

A little reminder of how things are done around here:

How it works:
- The topics for the 2026 reading challenge list will be determined by a series of mini-polls, the number of which depends on the number of prompts winning in each mini-polls
- Suggestions for each poll will be opened until 15 suggestions are received and “seconded”.
- The voting thread will open the day after suggestions go live. You can find the schedule here.
- The poll will be posted after the voting thread is opened for 24 hours, and will remain open for three full days.
- Each user has 8 votes to spread between their favorite (top) and least favorite (bottom) prompts
- The prompts with the more favorable votes (comparing top votes to bottom votes, and looking at the overall number of votes it received) will be added to the final list (between 2 and 5 depending on how the votes are spread)

Rules:
- Each member can only suggest OR second one prompt
- Suggestions close after 15 total seconded prompts

When suggesting and seconding, feel free to provide examples and descriptions that may help other members understand the prompt better. These descriptions and examples will be copied over to the voting thread for further discussion.

As always, please express any and all feedback (respectfully, of course), either here or in The Wild Discussion.

174195 Yep, what NancyJ said, I check the listopias fairly regularly for duplicates, especially the ones like the title and cover prompts that lend themselves to more duplicates than others.

174195 I’ll have to look when I get on my computer, but I think there’s a Wikipedia page that lists everything. BOTM typically picked one book a month when it first started, then it was revived as a subscription service in (I presume) 2015. Even still, 5 books a month for the last 10 years (plus add ons if you want to include those in the prompt suggestion) leads to A LOT of options. They also had an offshoot YA subscription and nonfiction subscription for a while, and they just announced a *fancy book* subscription (under a different name but same parent company, publishing books with sprayed pages and whatnot, similar to FairyLoot).

If there’s no Wikipedia page, I don’t mind updating my spreadsheet - I think I tracked each month’s picks until 2020 or 2021.

174195 I will say that, historically, the first few polls tend to have more prompts make it in, and it slows down as we get further along. But having two 3 prompt polls and a 4 prompt poll is a bit faster than we have had. I do anticipate going into September though!

174195 I've been a member of BOTM since 2017, so I'm a bit biased, but a BOTM prompt would be SO FUN. There's literally something for everyone there (nonfiction, fiction, genre, literary, etc) and it goes back a century so you have lots of options. There's 5-7 picks each month, plus add ons that are not main picks but you can get through the BOTM service so there are a lot of options.

It's a good way to appease the "I want a list prompt" crowd while being broad enough for the "I don't want a list prompt" crowd lol.

Anyway, results for poll 2 are posted!

174195 Jackie will have to do it since we can’t edit each other’s comments. She has another big day at work, but she will be back on this thread this afternoon.

174195 It's kinda fun to jump into it after the suggestions round with fresh eyes! I think I'll be going 4 up 4 down this round. I'm leaning towards the easier prompts this year (series, cover/title prompts) since I'll have a newborn going into 2026 and I know I'll be craving easy prompts.
Jul 07, 2025 09:01AM

174195 Hey y’all! I’m out of town on vacation and Jackie has a busy work day so it will likely go up later this afternoon when she’s off of work. Keep an eye out for this afternoon CST.
