174195 My only hesitancy to adding it to the poll is because it creates a bit of extra work for the Mod creating the poll, without it driving more traffic to the thread since people generally have to come through this thread to get to the poll. I don't want y'all to think I'm being hard-headed about this :) just trying to balance the workload on the mods with the usefulness to the group.

174195 Ah we usually post the link to the voting thread on the announcements, not the direct link to the poll.

In my experience, people generally skip over reading the description to the poll and skip straight to the questions, so we typically link the discussions thread on the announcements so it forces you to open the thread before getting to the poll. Pamela switched it up this time (linking the poll, but putting the GR discussion in the description), but we honestly have no way of knowing if that's helped or not lol.

174195 We talked about it, Dixie, but in order to get to the poll, you have to open this thread, so everyone who is going to the poll already knows this thread and discussion exists. There's no way that I know of to get to the voting poll without opening this thread first, and as much as you can lead the voters to the discussion, some people will not read it lol. I think for Edie, the comment just came after they submitted their vote.

The musical note one was a mix up in suggestions (I'm assuming?). It's written as it was suggested and approved in the suggestions round. There may have been something different in the Wild Discussion for the original intention of the prompt, but we can only go by what is suggested and seconded.

174195 You could do a book with Right in the title, an arrow pointing right on the cover, or a book about meeting “Mr. Right”.

174195 This year has been a bit quieter than usual, but it will likely pick up as the voting goes on. People typically find our group as the voting moves on and start voting midway.

174195 Haha all good!

1 spot remaining I do believe

174195 Are y'all ok if I define "front list"? I don't think people taking the poll without reading the discussion would be familiar with the term.

Wording it as such for approval:
2 Weeks: The most recently published book by an author and a book from that same author's backlist
Jul 19, 2025 11:38AM

174195 Please confirm the wording on this call and response:

2 Weeks: Two books, where the second book's title provides a response to or continuation of the first book's title
Jul 19, 2025 11:18AM

174195 Wording for the musical prompt:

3 Weeks: One book related to a sharp musical note, one book related to a flat musical note, and one book related to a natural musical note

For the transportation:

3 Weeks: One book related to planes, one book related to trains, and one book related to automobiles
Jul 19, 2025 11:15AM

174195 I will second Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow!

174195 Suggestions are open for Poll 4!

174195 Multi week will be a max of 6 weeks (4+2, 3+3, 2+3, etc). No more than 6!

174195 (Want to point out that my example was less about the actual prompt and more pointing out wording differences in prompt suggestions. Water would be correct in the elements, I just blanked when writing it out lol)

174195 I was the same for my first year, Roxane, and that totally makes sense to me. My book club does this challenge as well, with varying degrees of participation (one of them got to pick a prompt as the Read-a-Thom winner last year, most of them just vote weekly because I send them the link). They all voted for the mod prompt because it would be super easy for them, obviously lol. But I see where you’re coming from. Even the ATY BOTM prompt can be a stretch for people who don’t participate in the group much.

174195 I'm not sure how people would get to the voting link without opening this thread first? We can certainly add it to the poll, but... they have to open this thread to get to the poll link lol

174195 Head's up:

As we go into the multi-week suggestions round tomorrow, I want you to be thinking carefully about how your prompt is worded. I'll be around to clarify (Pamela is running suggestions tomorrow for the first time!), but in case I miss it:

Last year I noticed a lot of wording that didn't convey what the suggester intended. For example:

"Four books related to Earth, Wind, Fire, and Air"
The above example would imply that you would need four books that related to all four elements

When what you may really intend for it to be is worded:

"Four books, each related to a different element in Earth, Wind, Fire, and Air"

I remember last year I did a bit of clarification with prompts that I thought may come out weird, so I wanted to point this out before the round opens.

Note that on the poll, this would be worded either:

4 Weeks: Four books related to Earth, Wind, Fire, and Air
or
4 Weeks: Four books, each related to a different element in Earth, Wind, Fire, and Air

And on the final prompt list, this would look like either:
Four books related to Earth, Wind, Fire, and Air: Book 1
Four books related to Earth, Wind, Fire, and Air: Book 2
Four books related to Earth, Wind, Fire, and Air: Book 3
Four books related to Earth, Wind, Fire, and Air: Book 4

OR

A book related to earth
A book related to wind
A book related to fire
A book related to air

There's no wrong way, but I want to make sure that what makes it to the poll is what the suggester and seconder intended!

I think we had Earth Wind Fire Water in our 2017 list! It was my first year doing the challenge and that was a tough one for me to wrap my head around lol.

174195 I picked Maggie; or, A Man and a Woman Walk Into a Bar for my BOTM pick this month specifically because it was under 200 pages. But it's definitely marketed as a full novel (not novella). I'm going to use the page count for this one and not the novella part lol

174195 I would recommend waiting for a single week prompt for the mod prompt, if you do choose to resubmit it.
