Welcome to our first round of voting for the 2026 reading list!

Voting will open in the morning of June 26, 2025 and results will be posted in the morning of June 30, 2025 (CST time).

How it works:
- When the voting opens, follow the link to the mini-poll that will be added at the end of this post
- You have a total of 4 votes this poll to spread across your favorite and least favorite prompts (you can also use less than 4 votes)
- You can find examples of acceptable voting practices on the Introduction thread.
- The prompts with the more favorable votes (comparing top votes to bottom votes, and looking at the overall number of votes it received) will be added to the final list

We are asking people to include their Goodreads profile address when they vote. To find this, just go to your own profile and then copy the URL/web address. If for some reason you can't link to your Goodreads profile, please post your full Goodreads name with enough identifiable information that we'll be able to access your profile.

NOTE: You will have FOUR total votes for this pre-poll.

Poll Prompts:
1. A book with a road trip or long journey
2. A book with a main character who is an outsider
3. A book with a primarily red, green or blue cover
4. A biography or memoir
5. A book related to blood, sweat, or tears
6. A book with a main character that has a pet
7. A book involving a fork in the road or a life changing decision

Feel free to discuss the prompts below, but please remember to be respectful to the other group members.

THOUGHTS AND IDEAS FROM THE (2025) SUGGESTIONS THREADS

1. A book with a road trip or long journey
ex, West with Giraffes, HItchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Grapes of Wrath, On the Road...

2. A book with a main character who is an outsider
This idea is similar to the "fish out of water" suggestion, but maybe a bit broader.

From Pam's original post: "It could be someone who just has ideas that aren’t mainstream or a competitor/applicant who is seen as a long shot. More obvious examples are people who are new to a community (school, city, country, planet, workplace), have a disability, don’t speak the primary language, an alien or robot, etc. (A mid-grade book with a movie coming out later this month, The Wild Robot, just came to mind.)"

6. A book with a main character that has a pet
Harry Potter, Lessons in Chemistry, Just for the Summer, etc

Elizabeth (elizabeth1234561) | 222 comments Voted! I would be happy with any of these prompts. I went 1 down 3 up. Only down voted road trip because I've already done this prompt for a couple of challenges this year, and it wasn't easy for me, but I wouldn't be unhappy to see it get through.

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 2992 comments Yay, voting time! Not that I'm way behind on this year's challenges or anything. 😄

Is the first question meant to be Trish's profile URL? I'm guessing it's meant to be an example and the question bit is missing.

I had several travel related prompts this year too so i might have felt the same way. But during the readathon I found several fun sounding novels that I hadn’t even considered for the other prompts. They led my brain to read “road trip” as “Road trip!!” They include:
Run for the Hills by Kevin Wilson. A search for half siblings, with a real found family vibe. I really liked it.
The Road to Tender Hearts by Annie Hartnett
She's Up to No Good by Sara Goodman Confino
Summer of '69 by Todd Strasser.
(Not to be confused withSummer of '69 by Elin Hildebrand, which might count, but not as well.)

One of the books I read this year could fit all these prompts:
A Hope More Powerful Than the Sea: One Refugee's Incredible Story of Love, Loss, and Survival
1. A book with a road trip or long journey
2. A book with a main character who is an outsider
4. A biography or memoir
5. A book related to blood, sweat, or tears
7. A book involving a fork in the road or a life changing decision

No results until July 31? Should this be June 30?

The schedule in the post with the rules does say June 30th.

Dixie (dixietenny) | 1082 comments I love "long journey/road trip" books. I've read many, but I have many more on my TBR list, so that always gets an upvote from me. Often goes hand in hand with "fork in the road/life-changing decision". I just finished The Pull of the Moon, which would fit both of those categories.

It can be hard to know ahead of time if a character has a pet unless the pet is the focus of the book, as with The Friend, or extremely well-known such as Harry Potter's Hedwig.

Blood sweat and tears sounds cool, but I can't think of anything related to any of those that I'm interested in reading.

Cover colors are always very easy to fill which isn't a big plus for me, I like to hunt a bit with cover prompts.

It's fun to be voting again!

Haha y'all, you must excuse my pregnancy brain for the entire remainder of this voting season. I accept any and all corrections. I've updated the first post - yes, results will be on the last day of the current month, which is June.

Blood, sweat and tears could include

Battles/wars/crime
Sports/work/warm climate
Touching/tragic/happy ending - happy parts make me cry rather than sad parts

I did blood, sweat, and tears as a multi-week prompt as part of my rejects challenge this year. I'm not picking anything specific for that yet, just filling in as I go, but I've managed to fill all three of those slots already. I read:

A book related to blood - Dare I Say It: Everything I Wish I'd Known About Menopause
A book related to sweat - Little Ship of Fools: Sixteen Rowers, One Improbable Boat, Seven Tumultuous Weeks on the Atlantic
A book related to tears - The Ever After of Ashwin Rao

Not particularly suggesting any of those - they were all in the 3 to 4 star range for me, but the speed with with I managed to get all 3 filled suggests that things will slot in there.

And congrats on the news, Emily!

Tracy | 2978 comments So happy to have started voting again!

Emily— Could you please go back to including the prompt number (e.g., 4. A biography or memoir) again? It wasn't bad to track with only 7 prompts to choose from, but once we get our longer lists it would be helpful to have numbers to refer to. Thank you :)

Irene (irene5) | 904 comments Congrats Emily!

I upvoted the two I thought would be the most fun to look for (the red/green/blue cover and the character with a pet). I downvoted biography/memoir because it's a genre I've dislike, and a book involving a life-changing decision because I can't name a single book I've read that does NOT involve a life-changing decision. Not that I don't appreciate having a few freebie prompts!

message 35: by Kat (new)

Kat | 565 comments Yay, it's ATY voting time!
I updated red/blue/green cover and character has a pet as these were prompts I filled in the readathon. They seem open enough to have options but not so strict that they'll be hard to fill.

This pre-poll will consist of the prompts chosen during our June Mini-thon.

We had a june mini read-a-thon and people 'voted' for a variety of prompts (pre-selected by the mods from past prompts) by reading a book that would fit their preferred prompt. The ones that got the most votes became the pre poll. Just a little extra fun!
