I've been doing that because of groups, though I'd prefer not to. Currently
Starplex and
Continuum: French Science Fiction Short Stories but too many more are on the priority pile.

Sometimes I attend a local irl group but the taste of the members is very different from mine. I'm also moderator of the thriving Children's Books here on GR, and member or mod of others that I'm not as interested in.

Yes, I got the broadcast about preliminary polls. But I don't think that I got a notification about it... sorry; it's been a week so I'm not sure. :(

Yikes. I have 14 unread PMs. Yes, I got your message... but not an email notifying me about it. GR is making me tired.

Yes, ideas are primary, before characters. And that's the way I like my SF, especially shorter works. If I wanted characters, I'd read literary fiction.

This means, too, that every discussion we want to follow, we have to actively click "notify me when people comment." Which explains the low level of participation in many groups, and in this groups Questions of the Week.
If I were Mod. I would send out a broadcast message.

I'm glad to see Chiang made it to SF. I already have Stories... on my to-reread list! :)

I think I have #5 but I don't understand why the middle emoji.

I've seen some of these that are kind of fun, but I don't know how to create them and I'm terrible at solving them. Sorry.

Not sure I appreciate the concept, but I see that
The Maid and
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time both made several Listopias. I enjoyed both of them.
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a five star book and made one of the Listopias. I'm not sure if you think it qualifies.

My edit worked. :)
The Ship Who Sang is a better link; the one you chose is a stray. I'm trying to combine your edition with the primary listing but it might not 'stick.'

Reading
All This & More for our Time Travel group. It's a page-turner, but I'm really not sure what I'm going to think of it when it's done.

I read library books, so, no snacks. Sometimes if I'm eating a solitary meal that uses a fork (not hands or spoon) I'll use a bookstand and eat while reading, but mostly I keep the two activities separate.

Mrs. Frizzle in Magic Schoolbus!
Some middle school teachers as supporting characters, especially some of those created by
Gordon Korman.
There must be more, but I'm struggling.

(To clarify, I gave Home 4 stars. The third book wasn't right for me, so I gave it 2.)

Fables for all ages, a mash-up of the two primary cultural influences from when
Steve Sheinkin was a child,
The Adventures of Rabbi Harvey: A Graphic Novel of Jewish Wisdom and Wit in the Wild West. I see now that there are sequels! Yay!!

Omphalos: I'm an atheist. I've never understood what it means to have faith, or to be spiritual (two different things). Chiang's novelette helps me to understand the faithful, and also shows that one who was faithful to her Lord can find a sort of spiritual experience in the pursuit of truth.
"'Science is not just the search for truth,' he said. 'It's the search for purpose. ... I had always assumed those were one and the same, but what if they aren't?"

I love that Ron has such a wonderful big family, in contrast to Harry's orphan status... enriches the series imo.
Fireship / Mother and Child for a link; I'll investigate, thank you!
