16548 The Observologist: A Handbook for Mounting Very Small Scientific Expeditions. Just started and learned something new already - earthworms have very fine hairs. *I* never felt them when I was a young observologist but I'll be checking now! It's an extremely charming book, too; my inner child is enchanted with the artwork and design.

16548 A quotes journal is an excellent idea. I do have a list of favorite quotes here on GR, but I seldom add more nowadays. And I add quotes to many of my reviews, but even less often reread them.

(I used to have a little blank book... I wonder if I could find that again....)

The one I do remember is one I've had for years. "Let Love Rule" by Lenny Kravitz.

16548 Oh, well, that's ok. I was hoping to read a relatively recent previous discussion but it's truly nbd. I'll still count it for this challenge though!

Um... well, but I can't find it.... ?

16548 Ooh! I just read A Canticle for Leibowitz for another group and I just loved how there's so much to discuss about it. I'm off to your discussion now.

16548 Forrest, pictures please.

16548 Yay! Quarterly challenges sound like fun; I'm grateful that you've decided to put up with GR and stay here.
16548 Well, fortunately, I started. Unfortunately, I dnf'd. Just not something I, personally, could get into.

At least we're helping them find good books, or helping them in some way, so that's great news!

Oh, that's a fun series.
16548 Hm. I came here to find a reason to continue past where I fell asleep, p. 70, and am not finding any! I think that I, too, will give up. It's not bad, but not for me, I think. I didn't relate, even, to the main character, and I didn't feel like I was getting to know anyone. And I'm not into heists, either.
16548 Oh. Oops. Ok, I'll start asap.
16548 I've got it, but was going to wait until 2/25 to start?

16548 I definitely read blurbs. And reviews. The best reviews (rare) are the ones that actually give me an idea of what it's like to read the book. Not what it's about, not who the characters are, but more the 'vibe.' Sometimes that's easy to talk about if it's a matter of pacing, sometimes it's more subtle.

But I always start with the blurb, to have an idea of whether I'm interested.

I don't much mind spoilers because I generally don't read books that are about the mystery, or the twist, ore the adventure, or the revelations.... I prefer books that are about the journey, so to speak. And I also prefer books that can be enjoyed upon a reread even if we remember them well.

16548 I ordered some older books from ILL. I loved The Anything Box and am trying to find more by Henderson. The Calico Year was a delight, too, and would have saved me a lot of grief if I'd read it, and learned its lessons, when I was a teen.

Currently reading A Star Above It and Other Stories and, while it's too dated to recommend, I'm glad I found it, as I'm a longtime fan of Oliver.

16548 I did pick up an illustrated copy of Andersen's fairy tales (from paperbackswap.com) but there were very few illustrations so I was disappointed. Generally I don't care. I do buy my books by Michael Perry directly from him and he signs them, but I don't need that signature.

I am absolutely supportive of and curious about other people's motivations, though. :)

16548 Kathi, I'm sure you're right.
I'd love to see results/analysis when this is done.

16548 Intriguing. If I'd said that SF was my favorite genre, the data would have been correlated differently. But, yes, I got sleepy bat, too, for no reason that I can imagine.

16548 (My books are also being backed up on Book Notification, a newer organization. Also, I've left a lot of other groups and so am not very likely to leave this one as long as you're here; you're one of the best.)

16548 1. How often do you check Goodreads?
Daily but not always thoroughly. I really miss email notifications.

2. Do you get notifications...?
Yes.

3. Do you generally participate in the polls (always, when you are notified about them, when you remember to check)?
Always, I think, unless none of the selections interest me.

4. Do you read the selected books even if you don't post?
No.

5. Do you have an account at any of these platforms/websites: LibraryThing, StoryGraph, Discord?
Um, I do have a very incomplete backup at LibraryThing, and a newer one elsewhere (thanks for reminding me to check in on it, once I can figure out where it is).

6. IF we were to move the group
I would not move with you. In fact, it's so hard to keep up here on GR I might have to leave this group anyway. Sorry.
