154447 If you have an ebook and a print book the books should automatically become linked on Amazon, especially if you use createspace and kindle direct. The reviews will be on the linked version, and readers can select ebook or print book to buy.
It doesn't always work, but if it doesn't link up you can just tell customer support about it and it is fixed.

I use createspace and haven't had too many problems. The worst problem? Shipping. It is ghastly if you are in Canada, but then again, so is everything.

Otherwise the quality is pretty good. I have only seen one book fall apart out of 80+, but my sister read it, and she is a book killer. (spines never survive her wrath unmarked, dog-eared page folding, dropped in the bath, all of it). I found that the laminated gloss ever so slightly started to peel up of my review copies, but those get used pretty hard. I don't know if that would happen just reading the book normally.

154447 I like the idea of it having a ridiculous corporate name, but then nobody uses that and just calls it something simple, like 'Ap', or 'Key', or 'Widget'.

154447 Split decision fixer! (possible)
How about making the book have a different shade of the same blue?
That allows you to make this look the same, different, and to keep open the other colours for future series!

Don't be scared to give out ideas, I always say! (If people asked for them in the first place)
They can always ignore you if they wish, but it might help them to see a new idea they didn't think of. Share, and be bold! It isn't interferring if they asked for interferance!
:D

154447 I still like it.

I am going to use John's advice and go further.
Perhaps take 'A Magical Musical Novel' and make it much larger, and put it on the very bottom under the guitar. You might need to make the guitar just a bit smaller so it can fit, but I think it would look nice.

Heck, go crazy. Give yourself a black bar down there, and put your letters in the background colour!

154447 I just found this nice little site.
http://www.whoishostingthis.com/

It allows you to find out who is web hosting the pirate sites where your book is. That way you can go over their heads and send the take down notice directly to the web host provider instead.

This allows you to avoid all those sketchy links on the sketchy websites! Website providers need easier to find links for reporting though... it is a bit of a nightmare depending on the host.

154447 I changed my mind. I will comment after all.

The last thing I researched for writing was Terrible slang words for lady bits.

I learned a lot and really grew as a person.

154447 When I google their name, the 7th link about Xlibris (which is the first after all their ads for themselves and Wikipedia) is a giant page of complaints, warnings, and how much they are a rip off / scam artists and to never, ever, use them.

There are many stories there that mimic yours to the letter. Many that are even worse.

Probably.
But, aren't we all a bit? ;) In the best of ways!

154447 Remember - Anyone can read GoodReads posts.
Calling potential readers bad names in a public forum anyone can read... isn't the way to get more readers.

;)

154447 I knew it was you who posted this.
100% knew it. Didn't even see the name in the thread, just knew. Like a pshycic... uh... phskick... uh... spelling... uh.... like a pterodactyl or something. Mind linked.

I don't think this could be taken seriously if it tried. Then again, my author profile says that I live in America's hat, (and my extended one says that I own a pet unicorn) so... maybe ask someone else.

154447 The only listing requirements for Bookbub:

- Free or discounted by at least 50%
- The best deal available
- Error free.
- A limited-time offer.
- A full-length book.
- Widely available.
- Will not feature the same book more than once every 6 months.

There is absolutely no required amount of stars, reviews, or anything else. They do take those into consideration there is no doubt, but don't be scared to try if you don't have a bunch of reviews.

There is a higher chance to get picked if you are submitting to a category that has less applicants. So, if you are submitting a Cozy Mystery, then reviews are going to be important for getting actually picked out of all the entries, but smaller categories you have more wiggle room! In the category I am watching I have seen a book with 4 reviews get accepted.

Don't be scared to try! I was too scared to try, until just now. Take that submission anxiety!

154447 Eep.

I took a course in copyright in college and the teacher legitimately taught us that.
*sigh* I hate that school even more now, which is saying something.

154447 There is no secret ingredient.

Sorry.

Just keep doing stuff and see what happens.
Personally, I am waiting to be mentioned by someone famous on a Late Night Television show I have never heard of as a passing joke and having no idea what happened until months later.

154447 Here is something you can do to protect yourself.

Take a copy of your final manuscript to the post office and mail it to yourself in something that needs to get sealed, like an envelope. When you get the package, never open it.

Keep that on file. If anyone ever steals your work, or claims they did it first, you have a version that is impossible to have forged, dated. It is a golden ticket in court.

Speaking of that, I should really go do that. :S
