15336 . . .all i know is, since all you fictionphiles joined goodreads, lulu's rating has plummeted from a 4.10 to 3.94 . . . so much for nepotism!

15336 July 28-30th at Fort Flaggler. Gonna' be bigger and better than ever! And can i just say how excited I am for my little dude to meet his wonderful aunts and uncles from all over! . . . i'll fill in more deatials this weekend when i have time . . . we've got 30 beds, and there's camping for overflow, and the whole thing is going to be even cheaper than last year! . . . if anybody comes in early they can stay at our place . . . in the meantime, let's get an RSVP list going here:

. . . well, as soon as i'm done with the 550 page rewrite i'm supposed to finish by next week, i promise i'll elucidate . . . how's this: one of the three is thicker than the others!

. . . also, in my capacity as the ambiguous fourth guy in the book blog "three guys, one books," i recently put out a challenge to corporate publishers to send me something dangerous, so it'll be interesting to see what winds up on my pile . . .

15336 . . . so, it's sort of an occupational prerequisite for me these days to read mostly new fiction, a lot of it in the form of galleys . . . traditionally, we read more dead authors around here, but i thought i'd start a thread which deals specifically with current fiction releases of note, since we are in the culture-building business around here . . .

currently in queue and soon to be released, are two indie titles and one big house offering:

peter selgin - life goes to the movies (dzanc, spring 09)

jim lynch - border songs (knopf, june 09)

michael muhammad kinght - osama van halen (soft skull, spring 09)

. . .didn't chris cleave write incendiary? . . . british guy? . . . if so, i read that a few years back and it was really good (name drop warning: stone gossard of pearl jam actually gave it to me-- he also turned me onto martin amis-- good to know that there's still literate rock stars out there!) . . . so is this the same guy?
