. . .how is it that the adventures of huckleberry finn is not on this list:http://artandliterature.wordpress.com...
. . . i think i made a post back in the old group about markson's most recent novel, 'the last novel', which i heard good things about . . .

. . . wow, who knew? fascinating stuff . . .
Chris wrote: "We'll see how cool it is...end-of-year projects can be surprisingly strong or really weak sauce, depending on the seniors' attitudes. So far, so good...only two weeks left until exams start. I kn...". . . really fun . . . skit comedy stuff, and situational comedy . . . did all the writing, and a lot of the voices . . .also got to work with some truly incredible voiceover talents . . .
Chris wrote: "The students in my Crime and Criminality class just finished "The Big Sleep" and are now working on a final project: taking any story we've read so far this semester and turning it into a radio the...". . . what a cool project! . . . i really miss producing radio theater sometimes . . .
" . . . a pansy's got no iron in his bones, no matter how big he is . . .". . . i'm guessing chandler didn't win any lambda award . . .
. . . am following and enjoying this dialogue, though i've added virtually nothing to it . . . i'm nearing page 100, and am with patty regarding the question of protecting the general-- thanks for the spoiler warning, mo, or i would have read your explanatory post . . .
. . .my only worry is i don't want to wake up the baby . . . also, you might have to hurry to catch the last ferry . . . since you're coming in that late, you may be better off getting a hotel somewhere near the airport for the 27th, and rendezvous with the downtown crowd the morning of the 28th . . .
. . . not sure who all is staying at my house on the 27th, or whether the in-laws and my nephew will still be staying with us, but at the very least, there will be sofas available at my house for whoever needs them, and there's always the u.f.f. dork which has a comfortable bed . . .
. . . this sentence from mo's post got me to thinking:"so while you are a propelled along by chandler in a whirlwind of action sometimes that action goes nowhere, and does nothing to serve the plot."
. . . for me this is part of the charm, because while the action that goes nowhere may not directly propel the through-line, it frustrates and colors the story in a good way by the the very act of diverging from the through line . . . i think i'd hate this book if were meticulous in its plot mechanics . . . it would just feel too contrived to me . . . and probably a lot of that has to do with the considerable body of inferior work inspired by chandler . . .
. . .nice coverage, marge . . . this sounds like really ambitious stuff-- graphics, foot notes, stress, horror, tears . . .
. . . i'd love to take that quiz, shel, send it my way! . . . i just know i'll be of mice and men . . .
. . . great post, matt . . . to illustrate part of your point: counterpoint/soft skull's advance sell-in on lulu was really good, so they actually released lulu two months early to create badly needed cash flow for operations, acquisitions, etc . . . i'd love to hear richard nash's take on this post . . .
. . . mark away, karen--pee on it if you want! . . . always nice to hear people on the right coast are buying lulu!
. . .first of all, by page 8, i was convinced that the coen brothers were totally inspired by this book . . . think about the big lebowski and his daughter bunny . . . my prediction: she's blackmailing him, just like bunny kidnapped herself!. . . i liked the constant juxtaposition of life and death, particularly in the greenhouse scene: baby-spider, undertaker, dead men's fingers, wild flowers fighting for purchase on bald rock . . . chandler seems to be asking us to consider the precariousness of life, perhaps . . .
. . . so, when does the big sleep thread begin? i'm going to the library to look for it this afternoon . .. they didn't have it at my local . . .
. . . i'm almost finished with the adventures of huckleberry finn, and i like it even more this time around . . . i love me a good outdoor adventure . . . and man, could twain write a voice novel or what? . . .there is so much of dickens in this book . . . some little dorrit, some copperfield, some great expectations . . . the brand of humor, the characterizations, the very segments of society which twain writes about . . .. . .i'm going to the library tomorrow in hopes of finding the big sleep, as i fully intend to be a part of the group read . . .

. . . i totally agree in theory, i just can't help it with some artists . . .
