153078 I'll definitely be doing some reading on the 1st, though if the weather holds I must get outside for a walk too! I have three books to finish, so I'll focus on those before starting any for the challenge!

You could always read a few graphic novels. They're a nice interlude between bricks.

153078 Many of us have challenged ourselves to read a certain number of books in 2016, aside from the goals of this challenge.

What is your goal?

I'm aiming for 100 books in 2016. I've done it before, but in 2015 I was working on a year of creative endeavors and my reading came second. This year I want to get back to the books!

153078 This folder is for any conversation you'd like to start with the group that doesn't have to do with specific reading categories.

Just remember the most important group guideline - be nice!

Feel free to start a new discussion thread here to get to know each other. It could be a discussion of a different challenge, or discussion about other topics of interest.

Hi Elisabeth!

I did this on purpose because it is not supposed to be a thread for any one specific book. It's the thread that explains the category, and it's a place where people can add suggestions for books that fit the category.

Once people start posting the books they've finished for the category you'll start to see more specifics.

153078 Greetings, and welcome to the new - and I think improved - reading challenge for 2016!

Here are a few general guidelines for participating in this group. We don't have strict rules for how one should work on the challenge because frankly, that just sets everyone up for failure. We are a friendly, relaxed group where everyone is welcome to share their reading discoveries and challenge progress through the year, without competition or pressure.

1. Work on the challenge in any order you like.

2. As you read books from the various categories, add a new topic under that category for your title. Start a new post and select the appropriate folder. Check to see if there's already a thread for your title, and add to it instead of starting a new thread. But don't worry if you create a new thread for a book that's already there - nobody will be upset.

3. The app is sometimes sketchy. If possible, double-check your posts from a computer now and then to make sure they're in the right folder. If not, check the "Orphans" folder.

4. Feel free to start a conversation in the Side Topics folder (new for 2016!). This is for you to get to know each other beyond the reading categories.

5. Be kind to one another. The diversity and international representation of this group is fantastic! Sharing a passion for reading is one of the better ways I know to bridge cultural gaps.

6. Lurk if you wish. All are welcome, even if you only read one book of the challenge!

7. Participate in discussions when you feel like it.

Have fun!

153078 My biggest problem is that for the last few years I've not been much of a movie watcher. I'll have to comb through this list to find a few to choose from.

Though I have seen, but not read The Princess Bride. That could work...

Or I may need to watch a movie!

153078 This folder is for a science fiction book.

Think you don't like science fiction? Think again! There are so many subgenres that you're sure to find something to tickle your fancy.

Good grief. An ambitious person could probably fill almost every category of this challenge with a science fiction book if they set their minds to it.

(oh look - there's an "undersea" category!)

153078 This folder is for a book about a trip - by car, by boat, by train, by motorcycle, by bicycle, by foot, by rollerskates... As long as it's a "road trip" of some sort.

Please share your recommendations and any resources you've used to help make your decision in this thread.

153078 Please excuse the horribly truncated folder name - they only allow 32 characters!

This folder is for a book by an author from your state, province, or country - whichever works best for you.

153078 This folder is for a book that is dearly loved by a child or some other person younger than you.

Looks like you're on your own for this one as well! Though I suppose you could talk amongst yourselves and figure out who the young folks here are. But it might be fun to go talk to a kid.

153078 This folder is for a book that was published the year you graduated from high school.

Much easier than finding an author born the same year as you!

Please share your suggestions - perhaps a link to a list of books published the year you graduated, if you want to admit to it. :-)

153078 This folder is for a book about books!
