What is your favorite dinosaur?
Pterodactyl I guess. There is an ongoing joke though that my husband is a trex because of the way he runs. (Dude is 6'3 with long ass arms but he runs with them all tucked up like a trex. It's entertaining to say the least)
Hello friends. Hope everyone is doing ok during this strange time. Thursday is my Monday so back to work for me. It's really weird knowing that I'm doing better financially than a lot of people because both my husband and I are "essential" and can work but still being jealous (while still concerned for your well being and sanity) that we can't hole up in our house with our daughter and just feel safer. It's such a weird feeling to have. I'm sure this sounds worse than I mean it to. I'm sorry for that. I am high risk so leaving my house stresses us the f out.Still not doing great at reading but the last few weeks I have improved a bit. I am not DNFing anything I don't finish right now as it's not fair to the book. I will put it back in my TBR and try again later.

(from Lauren) Have you ever thrown a book across the room? Or really really wanted to? Which book?
I definitely have. Do I remember what??? Meh. Three levels of throwing material for me. 1. Hate the book 2. Hate a decision the writer made/or broken heart 3. Scary nightmare work.
There have been a few books I wanted to light on fire(I didn't, just wanted to). The Princess Bride was the most memorable. I hated that book soooo much but it was a huge edition so throwing not an option. Shattering Glass when I was a teenager because the ending was absolute rubbish. And Stardust because Gaiman's writing was cruel and gross and I saw the movie first which was charming and kind and just a wonderful story.
I see a lot of comments about the Order of the Phoenix and I have to imagine I had the same reaction as most of you as the character that died was my favorite but again, too big wouldn't throw. My parents would have grounded my butt for putting a hole in the drywall.
I know that there have been one or two books in my time that scared me so bad I did throw them out of terror but I honestly cannot remember what they are.
Sarah wrote: "Hi everyone. It's been a pretty awful week here for my family so not much reading done I'm afraid. We found out that my baby niece who as due to be born in July no longer had a heartbeat. It's come..."I am so very sorry for your loss as well as the heartbreak the parents are going through.
Hello everyone,Hope you are all safe and well and staying secluded as best possible. I have had a slight turn around on my inability to read lately. My girlfriend told me that she listens to audio books WHILE playing video games (which has been my escape these past ages...) so I started and listened to two whole books (albeit short ones) in the last two days. Yay!

I use this term losely as I am waiting to get one back from overdrive as the loan suspended and the other has been sad on my nightstand for a while
Do you have any authors that you'll buy/borrow their new books without checking the description or reviews first, since you're sure you'll like it.
I am very weird in my book choosing habits. I also will buy books I know nothing about because I like the cover. I buy everything Amanda Lovelace writes. I also pre-ordered the prequel to The Hunger Games The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes w/o any details. That is more for the series than the writer. Same for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: Parts One and Two. I don't actually care for Rowling's writing style but I adore the story and they are my childhood so I was on that fast.
Hey guys. Hope everyone is doing well. I'm OKish. Generally speaking I am ridiculously productive and over do progress to the point of burn out but since this has all started I have halted. Not intentionally, I can't focus. I can't read. The struggle is real. Today is my first day back at work after two weeks "spring break" vacation. I'm hoping working my pull me out of my slog but honestly it may deepen it. Thursday is my favortive day (because of this) so even though I am a do nothing right now I still want to check in.Needless to say I haven't finished anything this week.

Have you found that you are choosing a different genre or book format in these past few weeks compared to how you were reading at the beginning of the year?
My audiobook intake has cut since I wasn't commuting. Being back at work might help with that. My desire to read is limited at best.
Hello friends. I am "essential" but have been home on a pre-planned leave for my kid's spring break. I am struggling to read and function to be honest. I know we are all going through it. Hope everyone is safe and as sane as possible.17/40 Regular

Which book character would you want to be quarantined with? (Or, if that’s too difficult to narrow down for an answer, which book character would you NOT want to be quarantined with?)
I have no idea. Will return to question. My current real life quarantine partner wants to play a game and is not being patient.
Hello isolated and "essential" reading friends. I am currently on two week "vacation". This is a weird world we are living in. Anyway, hope everyone is safe and as sane as possible. 17/40 Regular

Do you have any favorite quotes? They could be literary, book-adjacent or not book related at all!
My all time favorite quote is from the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid "Kid, the next time I say, 'Let's go someplace like Bolivia,' let's go someplace like Bolivia."
I have some quotes written in notebooks but I don't have any right now.
1. Did you enjoy the book? How did it rank up against your expetations, if you had any? Did you find it "darkly comic"?So I don't know if this was because of the book or because of our real life plague sitiuation but I am very up in the air on this book. I don't know if I liked or hated it. It could go either way. I didn't find anything about it comic I can say that to be certain. And other than the murders it wasn't even that dark.
2. What is your impression of Lagos from the book? Could environment be a factor in the sisters' actions?>
I don't think the setting was a big part of the book. It was mentioned in passing a few times and the only "real" thing that was said was the police were corrupt and easily bribed.
3. Korede and Ayoola's father is dead - however, to me, his shadow seems to linger. How do you think their relationship with him still affects them?
(view spoiler)
4. Ayoola comes across as a fairly text-book sociopath - but what about Korede? What do you think of her? How do you think she reconciles her career as a nurse with what she does for her sister?I actually think Ayoola is a psychopath and Korede is a sociopath. I think Korede was a worse character. (view spoiler)
5. Did any of the characters elicit your sympathy?
Muhtar. (view spoiler)the custodian(view spoiler)Tate(view spoiler)
Hello. I have been full on quarantined for a week and I am back at work for 3 days before I start my pre-scheduled "vacation". Thankfully my husband and I decided to wing it in town so we don't have anything to cancel. I don't want to be at work though. I'm high risk with an autoimmune disorder so being out of my bubble is stressful. Have not been successful in reading. Did play a lot of board games though.16/40 Regular

Have you been isolating yourself in your home? How has this changed your social media use?
GREATLY!!!! I am on fb 24/7. Doing stupid polls and games on Instagram stories. My book club is run via instagram. Usually the next book is posted during our meeting but as we met remotely and with impending shut downs to increase I launched both April and May last week to give the members a chance to get the books since Amazon is "shipping essentials" and bookstores/libraries are all closed.

Hello fellow isolation friends. My city is closed down which is crazy. Casinos in Vegas don't even have locks. This is all surreal. My husband and I are in "essential fields". We are both quarantined now for 14 days. Well like a lot of us reading has been difficult for me. I did manage to finish my book club book. My book club will be doing our meeting via the zoom app since we can't see each other in person.

Instead of a question this week, I want to create a place where we can share all the wonderful online book-related events and sharing happening right now. I've been AMAZED at the authors and other members of the bookish community that have stepped up to provide content for those of us staying home.
Below are the ones I can find right now. If I find more I will share them. Please share any other great and amazing opportunities for bookish goodness right now!
I don't know any book ones but I have been enjoying the virtual tours.
BroadwayHD.com has a 7 day free trial which my daughter is immensely enjoying.
If your library has RBDigital they offer a free trial on The Great Courses which has a lot of cool courses and learning opportunities.

Name your favorite upbeat, everything-is-wonderful book!!!
I don't re read books very often and I honestly don't know if I do a lot of everything is wonderful books. I guess To All the Boys I've Loved Before would fit. Based on my read list it looks like I read themed cookbooks. lol

LOL. I am planning a "probably no wait" list for both libraries in my area just in case.

I love Ruta Septys. I recommend Salt to the Sea to EVERYONE!!! Her 1st book is called Out of the Easy set in New Orleans. Not as good as Salt or Shades but still as great read! I havent gotten to The Fountains of Silence yet!
Hello! Started this today and will jump right in. Does this fit in any other categories? I feel like the author would have been in her 20's bit I haven't confirmed it yet. 1. Had you ever heard of this book before it was nominated as a group read?
I have heard of it and it has been on my list/radar since it came out but never screamed "You must read me NOW!!"
2. What made you decide to read this book? Was it just because it was a monthly read? Or did something else prompt you to take it off the shelf - for example, the description, the fact that its shown well in the book awards?
The discussion being this month is kismet. For my book club this year every month has a movie genre for a theme. March is "domestic mystery". It was between this, The Better Liar and Perfect Little Children. A combination of the size, this discussion and reviews made me pick this one for March.
3. What are your expectations before you start?
I am not big on expectations. I hope that I (and my fellow book club members) will enjoy it. I find the concept interesting. Who knows. I don't tend to like villians being made to seem less bad or relatable so it is up in the air for sure
For those of you who like dystopia and young adult I put forth The Grace Year by Kim Liggett as an option. In the book a language of flowers is spoken of and used quite often. I am aware that flowers having different meanings in different cultures but the book actually calls it language of flowers and flower language and that cemented it for me personally. If that doesn't fit your views for the prompt, all good. I just wanted to put another option out there
I read
Such a beautiful story. It caught my attention last year. I got it from overdrive and immediately bought a copy for myself and my bff.
Good morning fellow readers!!! Hope everyone is doing well this week. I had a little family staycation last weekend and have fallen into Voltron: The Legendary Defender (awesome show) with my daughter which has taken some reading time. That's cool though #balance.15/40 Regular

QotW:
Do you read books from a variety of age groups (middle grade, YA*) or do you stick with mostly adult books?
*Middle grade is usually designated as ages 8-12 or so (also including classic children’s literature). YA covers about age 13 up into the early 20’s
I used to only read young adult. That is not entirely true anymore as challenges have branched me out a bit. I still find myself in the ya section every visit to the bookstore/library.
Middle grade I have never been really big on as an adult. I just saw a new Wayside School Boxed Set book has come out on instagram so I will probably read that. I also bought The Unteachables which I intend to read this year along with Matilda. This is more forced on my part.
I try to read a bunch of picture books every year which is good to help find presents at Christmas time for my neices and nephews and my book clubs kids.
Good Morning Readers! Here in Vegas we are in our 3rd winter. The weather here is chaos and never consistent until summer rolls along then surface of the sun for 4 months. Oh well, I have had a great week for reading so I'm happy with that.15/40 Regular

Since “Dr Seuss Day” is Monday, March 2:
Did you read Dr Seuss as a child? Did you have a favorite?
I love Dr Seuss even now. I actually went to the Geisel Library last summer in San Diego. If you are a fan I would definitely suggest checking it out if you can.
My favorite as a kid was
I think. I read them to my daughter when she was little. My favorite as an adult is
which I had memorized when my little was a baby. LOVE!
