152301 If the movie is scheduled but not released, the book is ok for this week ;)
Jan 19, 2015 11:49AM

152301 Haha, no there are only 52 weeks in a year :p
I thought about moving the christmas book too but I'm lazy. I'll probably read this one out of order :) For Halloween, it's movie time at home, so the scary book is not a problem.

Have fun ;)

152301 Highschool: Eleanor & Park and Stargirl seem interesting. I'll read them this year :)

152301 Ah, Dracula. This is old :p I tried to read it but was all along: "Dude, this man is a vampire, you have run away". So I couldn't continue it. I'll retry it in 40 years :p
Lestat is a lot more sexy :D

152301 No problem, you'll have your turn in 15 years when the kids will tell you how old LotR and Harry Potter movies are :p

Anne Rice was a great writer at this time and she described well "true" vampires (because, well, I've problems with the new ones who go in highschool... If I was a 100 years old vampire, I'm pretty sure I would have kill all the teenagers, after one week :p).
I'm looking forward to your review on Interview, it will be interesting to know how "dark" vampires are liked today :)

152301 "Old movie". I was something like 15 years old when I saw it xD Thanks, now I feel very old :p

Interview with a vampire was not my favorite in the Anne Rice's series (don't ask me the one I prefered, it was a long time ago and now I'm a very old lady :p Anyway I liked The Vampire Lestat and The Queen of the Damned because of the vampire history parts, and didn't enjoy the sequels).
I read Interview shortly after seeing the movie and found them differents. The movie has more humor (and Brad Pitt :D).
152301 Yes, it's a little weird, but everybody can follow the discussion like this :)

Don't read Cassandre, the plot sucks! How can a girl decide to live in a dump? Stupid idea. After pages and pages about the smell of the place, I wanted to throw the book by the window.

Ah, it's a good thing I didn't buy La voix de la Terre because I didn't know it was a trilogy! Maybe I'll try the 1st one sample :)
Jan 17, 2015 11:47PM

152301 Wow, you already planned all your books? :)
Good luck with the challenge!
152301 I couldn't finish the last book by Werber (Le miroir de Cassandre) I bought, so even if the subject is something I can enjoy (like this one), I totally reluctant to buy a new one. I'm curious to know what you think about La voix de la Terre :)
And I agree, Empire of Ants is great!

152301 I agree with you Ashleigh ;) Kids are so full of courage in fictional stories that nothing seems to reach them, decreasing the overall heavy feeling and making you wanting to help/like them. I think any normal adult would totally freak out if he ended in a children story :D

The "Harry has to come back to his family" each summer bothered me a lot, because it seemed normal to everyone that he lived with awful relatives and slept in a closet. So yeah, a little magic trick or a year at school and all the abuse is under the carpet, mostly forgotten.
Jan 17, 2015 11:18AM

152301 Well, I disagree about "children's books less filled with tragedy". Tell that to all the orphans or abused heroes (starting with Oliver Twist and ending with Harry Potter). Several of the Roald Dahl's books have abuse in them, but it's not too heavy.
Never go near The Bad Beginning and the other Unfortunate Events, I stopped at the 3rd book because I started to be depressed reading the series =__=
But yes, there are some lighthearted books, like the How to train your dragon series for example :)

152301 I finished Lock In and totally enjoyed it. It's like a good detective movie! I gave it 5 stars because I can't say something against the book, I liked all of it. Everybody hasn't same tastes as me on reading, so it's probably more a 3-4 stars book, you'll tell me that ;)

152301 I'll join you for this week ;)

The Girl on the Train

152301 Do like me: 3 books per week because I can't choose :p
Anyway, you can change your books during the year if you find more interesting ones :) Just tell us which of them you edited, so we can have a look at the new books.
Jan 16, 2015 12:25PM

152301 Think about adding a profile photo, it will help to avoid confusions ;)

The Atlantis Gene (week 4) has hate/love reviews. The plot seems interesting, so I'm looking forward to your opinion on it!

152301 Week 11: 1 book with a one-word title
March 12-18, 2015

This week, it will be easy to remember your book title! Choose a short or a long word, but choose it wisely. And of course, have fun reading it :)

How to Create a Topic:
1. Create a topic in the appropriate folder using your book's author and title (Title by Author). Link your book with the "This topic is about" feature.

2. In the body of your post, comment about why you chose this book. Have you read it before? What are your expectations?

3. Feel free to use the thread as a way to update the group on your progress. Also, when you are finished reading, add a small review and your thoughts about the week's challenge.

4. Comment on everyone else's posts as well! Participation and group involvement will make this challenge so much fun!

**If you chose the same book as another group member for the same week, do not create a duplicate thread.**

152301 We want to know what you'll choose for the place you want to visit :D

I didn't know Terabithia movie was from a book. Never saw it but the book just jumped in my to-read :D It's a sad story or one with lots of feelings that make you cry?
Jan 15, 2015 09:21PM

152301 You're welcome :)
Oh, your edition of The Road has an interesting cover! My paperback edition is black and grey with only the title, summary and some text on the front, the cover didn't help me to choose this one.
