Here’s the promo language. They were careful to not say romance:

“Young Queen Charlotte's marriage to King George of England sparks an epic love story and transforms high society in this "Bridgerton" universe prequel.”

Queen Victoria was her granddaughter…I think.

Violet was Ledger’s daughter.

Violet’s father made that hat for Lady Danbury. When Violet saw it, she connected the dots that her father had been the one love of Lady Danbury’s life.

In Queen Charlotte, it provides the context for the relationship we later see in the Bridgerton series. It’s definitely not presented as an “HEA,” just an explanation of why she protected him so vehemently. The ending can’t be summed up easily.

Watch it through the end and judge for yourself. Hubby, my resident historian, watched the first episode with me and stated that, at that time, they had no definition for his mental illness and because there was so much secrecy around him, it would be difficult to diagnose today. That treatment he was provided? Probably consistent with how mental illness was approached in that era.

There’s a lot that’s lovely about this story but there’s even more heartbreak. I highly recommend finishing and then form your opinion.
