Here is my tracking folder for this theme. Browsing each other's contents will give us ideas and many discussion starters. :) I am going to try to read the following in 2016. If I use an adjective instead of the name, it's because the book isn't by a Celtic author or set in the country but has a strong cultural connection.“Bridge Of Friendship” Mabel Esther Allan 1975 (Irish)
“Keeper Of The Castle” Juliet Blackwell 2014 (Scottish)
“The Novice's Tale” Margaret Frazer 1992 (Welsh)
“Central Line” Maeve Binchy 1978 (Ireland)
“Victoria Line” Maeve Binchy 1980 (Ireland)
“Echoes” Maeve Binchy 1985 (Ireland)
“Into The Fire” Jodi McIsaac 2013 (Irish)
“The Trickster” Muriel Gray 1994 (Scotland)

As for "Serious Moonlight", I didn't know who David was when I was 9! I believe I was only getting as far as the Smurfs, Mini Pops, and three Dolly Parton records I asked my parents to buy me. A playmate I once followed around, one year older, had her greatest hits. Otherwise, as the eldest sibling; there was no one to teach me make-up or what music was in. Mom is allergic to many cosmetics. I heard what my parents played and their taste differs to be sure. We did bring them to enjoy Chris DeBurgh together just this October! Third row, centre from the stage!I was crazy into music by 1984. Anything from 1983 to 1990 became my expertise. Then I couldn't bear the 90s sound; 'grunge', 'rap', and 'house music' all of my least favouries. I discovered David in 1985, when he did the "Dancing In The Streets" video with Mick Jagger. Another example from that year, illustrating exposure based on one's age: I knew Phil Collins from "Billy Don't Lose My Number" and "Sussudio"; not hearing of his former Genesis band for years.
I think it's lovely. you witnessed David's two famous concerts, which I have admired on videotape, as I said. And I am very happy to have seen his two most recent ones in Winnipeg, my home city. I don't know if he toured since 2004, so I might have caught the most current train there was. What wonderful memories! :-)
We only see the pin-up avatar, therefore age was unknown. LOL I've learned I'm still a youngster at 40 and those into 50s and 60s remain gorgeous and energetic. A gothic paperback I dug out astonished me. The premise is that some trick was played, or perhaps some medical coma; I haven't read it yet. The horror is that a girl, presumably in those 20s that used to be a fictional staple, is shocked to see an old lady in the mirror instead of herself. Later, we find this horrific image "must be at least 40". I couldn't believe it! I'd be surprised if I even look 30. I'm no old lady. Folks: have standards of perception really changed, or have we not always been spry and beautiful at this age?
Which state are you in? He played Manitoba four times but I was too young for Serious Moonlight. Oh believe me, I have seen Glass Spider on video and it was a phenomenal stage set. Whoever wrote the review in your town was off. I'm not someone who remembers background dancers, who is? Yet Constance Marie, now a comedy television actress and the rest of the troupe, were spellbinding. Serious Moonlight also was a major production (good old videotape) like Lady Gaga does.I liked him by 1987 but not enough drive to go. I didn't have money or means to get there and back comfortably unless someone accompanied me. I was only 14. By March 10, 1990 I made sure I went: Sound & Vision, with an odd closing that I corrected in a recent on-line newspaper article. I saw him again with my youngest brother, fiancé, and two close friends on April 7, 2004! That was the "A Reality Tour". Corey Hart, I insisted on seeing at only 13, with a limosine full of about 6 ecstatic friends. :-) I am glad we both saw David twice. I don't think he played either of our countries often.
Glad it isn't me. I hope you try mine. Wordpress is the easiest I've seen and non-blogger friends have commented more than once. I've been eager to follow up at the David thread. I shared more - about concert attendance! :)
For anyone wondering about this issue: 'Blogspot' seems to have enforced 'robot verification' that users have no say over. Members can get by it and perhaps not notice there is an issue, if not for me. Non-users visiting from blogs such as 'Wordpress', mine, deal with THREE (three!) captcha screens! The first two are no problem: click pictures "with street signs in them". The third is the issue. You are directed to copy & paste a paragraph of code. On a good day, I can do that. Lately, the thin box into which one would paste this code is not showing up, rendering the exercise useless. This is another reason having e-mail as a way of reaching members is invaluable to me this year. When I receive e-mails from folks joining for 2016, that is. A little scary how few so far but I figure it's because we're ahead of February. :)
I suppose issues with 'Blogspot' is technical. Shonna: the pages aren't providing the extra space for depositing "verification code" at anyone's blog lately. Please know I visited your recent review with "weather" and "red", your page updating all challenges, and especially, your review of "Bristol House". I clicked "interesting" buttons, hoping it will show it is I who visited.
I hope I got across that my shock comes, yes, from young age and someone I like very much but because David was my example of what elderly need not look like: energetic, slim, stylish. How many of you have had the thrill of wonderful memory of seeing him in concert? I had the opportunity to see him twice!
Does anyone know how to tuck away previous bookshelf folders in this group, so the current one has prominence? You are all at liberty to add whatever you're reading that suits any of my quartet. Also please make this community lounge your own. Add any pictures you like. I always love to see pets and where your books are kept.
Yes, of course he smoked. I don't know if he quit. My shock was about him being so energetic, slim, and never looking or acting elderly. That he was my example of what an elderly person's look and mobility could look like. My parents move as if they are elderly, Mom at a much better weight but Dad finding it tough to tie shoes.Your parents sound from another world, imagining the old way is required. hehe I dislike organized, club-type exericse or diet too. We keep moving, dancing at home, or a walk. I'm telling this to myself as a reminder to *do it*, after all the effort to get those group and review pages up and advertised all week. And educating ourselves on a right way to eat and just living better; no diet or gym-involved exericise required. My parents must too.
Feeling pleased about offering something fresh, the Europe group occurred to me. Gillian is the sweetest. I continue to join her later in the year, if I see a lot of Europe in my reading. She isn't convinced the United Kingdom has four distinct countries for literature. She permits one of Wales, Ireland, Scotland, or England. These are the English-speaking countries in which most books are set. I also wish she would take the same author again. It is a country tour, so I disagree that author and political boundaries matter.Celtic Coasts is a really great answer to gaps in other groups. I hope many join all of mine renewed for 2016 but I am really happy to have outlets that I will surely use. :) I hope no one is hesitant about signing-up via e-mail but this is how the Canadian group has run for 9 years. That host sends a post whenever there is a new link to see and people are informed. I won't have a post 12 times a year. All that matters is members catch we there is to see and choose whatever they like.
I don't know if there's a challenge you are hopping aboard but I will find out by e-mail if you do. :) Either way, it is wonderful having you to share things. I'm shocked about David's death because he is a personal favourite, same as for you. The other reason is I fairly regularly held him up as an example of fitness to my parents. Dad is only 3 years older and Mom 2. I thought of his trim, active form and young attire and encouraged them that growing older didn't need to be growing rounder and not dressing stylishly. That "too early" and "makes no sense" issue is back, like with our dear cat Love. There are obese, burger-eating Americans (and Canadians too) still here but this trim, active person is gone? Death not making sense unsettles me.
I can't wait, Kristianne. I saw your wonderful post - the enthusiasm runneth over nicely! :) I'm going to do one or two Maeve Binchys and a few varieties belonging to Scotland. I also know I have one or two books set in Wales that I haven't read yet. This is the reason I dreamed up this combination. I don't want to cram a lot of one Celtic country into a year but to combine and mix as I please? It is about time. :)
It is a pity this is the first public item in what is my public community, since I do not use 'Twitter'. Too many people in the world, known to us and not, have been hit by cancer. This sickness needs to be eradicated. Today is another example of wealth not stopping it. David Bowie has died at only 69.It is sad to hear of any loss such as this, especially when we have heard of the person. In David's case, I had to announce it because I grew up considering him one of my favourite musicians. It feels weird that one of your favourites is suddenly gone. God bless his family, including his wife Iman with whom he stayed married twenty years.
I am so proud and happy to show you my brand new reading circle, that raises our trio up to a quartet. It is called "CELTIC COASTS" and I am certain you will find it as leisurely and easy as my others. A Celtic reading circle that doesn't demand content for one country but combines all three, is exactly what I need in my personal reading. Sail along with me. There are no minimums: bring any books connected with Wales, Ireland, Scotland here. https://cmriedel.wordpress.com/celtic...
Thanks! I hope you caught the info that the new "Gentle Subjects" can already been previewed in the detail section of this group's home page.I love visits from neighbour's pets but it had been months. "Joey" was unhappy about being alone, only seeing them for food. Animals are not all about food like people think. I questioned those four kids more than the adults. Why weren't they walking to visit him and begging to bring him where they are living? I couldn't stand not being with mine 24/7. I was glad to hear them exclaim "Joey!" when he bounced in the door. We had only meant to go for a Christmas walk. Joey followed us and we wanted him safely off the road. We stopped at the lady's Mom's place and found them there.
